Four of us went on a tour with Achraf and we had a good time. Our tour started late because our ferry was late but he managed to give us a feel for the city and its people. He was fun, knowledgeable and took us to interesting spots. He chose an excellent restaurant for our lunch. All in all a good experience.
Our experience with Achraf Benamar was great from start to finish. We found him through the Rick Steves guidebook, and choosing him was definitely the right decision. One thing we really appreciated was how easy it was to connect with him. Choosing a young guide was a great idea, and being close in age made the experience feel relaxed and natural from the beginning. He met us right on time at the cruise terminal with a clean, comfortable car and showed us some of the best spots in Tangier, including beautiful viewpoints, the Cave of Hercules, and a fun camel ride on the beach. He also took photos and videos for us, which was a nice bonus. Achraf Benamar was professional, well-organized, and very knowledgeable. He timed everything well to avoid crowds, guided us through local markets, and shared interesting insights about local culture and daily life. Everything felt smooth, safe, and exactly as promised. It’s also important to mention that Achraf Benamar is a licensed, fully active guide in Tangier, and we met him in person exactly as scheduled. For anyone reading negative or misleading reviews, our experience was the complete opposite, Achraf is trustworthy, professional, and truly dedicated to his guests. He walked us back to the terminal with plenty of time before departure, and we felt completely taken care of the entire day. We highly recommend Achraf Benamar as your guide when visiting Tangier, you will be in excellent hands.
Morocco is such a beautiful country. But with so much to do and to options that were overwhelming ourselves; we opted to go with a guided tour. With so many choices, we found Achraf Benamar and had an excellent experience touring Tangier. From the moment we met him, he was nothing but professional and we could tell he is so passionate about his city. He is authentic, relaxed, and well organized; giving us a mix of cultural and historic adventures with a glimpse of everyday life in Tangier. Achraf’s knowledge of Tangier and the surrounding areas is impressive. He shared countless history and local stories that showed us the melting pot and welcoming love of Tangier. Besides the food, one of the highlights for us was shopping, he took us to the one of the oldest textile mills in Tangier with real handmade, no pressure sales, and very fair prices. It was refreshing to shop knowing everything was genuine and had a piece of culture and heritage. We actually found Achraf Benamar’s name in the Rick Steves guide, and we’re happy to confirm he is very much active, present, and absolutely legitimate. He is a fantastic guide who clearly loves what he does. I have heard of deceptive tour experiences in Morocco, but Achraf Benamar is not one of them. If you want a real, trustworthy experience in Tangier, then we highly recommend giving Achraf an opportunity to show you the all Tangier’s beauty.
Our day with Achraf Benamar in Tangier was wonderful from start to finish. He helped us truly rediscover the city, from its history and culture to the everyday local life. Achraf is warm, knowledgeable, and very easy to spend the day with. He showed us Tangier and nearby areas at the perfect pace and timed everything well to avoid crowds. We especially loved shopping with him, he brought us to authentic local workshops and markets, where the items were genuinely handmade and reasonably priced. No tourist traps at all. We chose Achraf Benamar after seeing his name mentioned in the Rick Steves book, and we can confidently say he is very much active in Tangier and an excellent guide. Any claims saying otherwise are clearly incorrect. If you want a real local experience with someone you can trust, book Achraf Benamar without hesitation.
I recently visited Tangier and booked a private tour with Achraf Benamar, whom I discovered through the Rick Steves book. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Achraf is warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the culture, history, and everyday life of Tangier. One of the highlights for me was the shopping. Achraf took me to an authorized consignment house, where I found beautiful, authentic items. Everything I purchased was professionally shipped to my home, arriving on time and in perfect condition. Achraf also helped me negotiate fair prices, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I left Tangier with wonderful memories and unique treasures thanks to his guidance. If you’re visiting Tangier and want a trustworthy, friendly, and culturally knowledgeable guide, I highly recommend Achraf Benamar.
Top notch tour! Our guide, Achraf Benamar, met us exactly where we had agreed and immediately made everyone feel comfortable. He took into account all of our group’s needs and tailored the day to exceed our expectations. Achraf was very knowledgeable about the area and provided great insight as we toured around, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. We actually found him through Rick Steves’ book, and we’re so glad we did! The service was exceptional, and the car was spotless and easy for my family to enter and exit. We highly recommend Achraf Benamar for anyone looking for a truly outstanding tour experience.
Do not book with Achraf Benamar. In October 2025, I contacted him through his website for a tour in Tangier. I did this based on him being in Rick Steve’s list of recommended guides for Tangier. He didn’t reply so I went to Rick Steve’s website and it said Achraf Benamar is no longer living in Morocco. So, I started contacting different guides. But then I did eventually get a reply from Benamar and he apologized that my email had gone to spam. I asked him about the Rick Steves update and he said that wasn’t correct and that he’d get in touch with them. I probably shouldn’t have believed that, but it was a direct reply from his website. On the day of the tour, the guide who showed up looked nothing like the photos of Achraf Benamar on TripAdvisor. Also, the tour guide ID around his neck said Abrito Ismail. I asked him and he said “oh in Morocco we have three names so Abrito is my third name”. He told me to call him Ben, short for Benamar. So, I googled “Abrito Ismail” and his Instagram came up. Definitely not Achraf Benamar. For those who care at this point, the tour was fine. Not good not bad. We got to see the sites, but I spent the whole day upset and anxious that our guide was impersonating someone else. We’d arrived at the tour directly from another part of Morocco so we had our luggage with us. I didn’t confront him until us and our luggage were dropped at our hotel. I was worried if I did it in the middle of the tour that it would lead to conflict and he had our luggage in the van at that point. When I confronted him, I told him I know you aren’t Achraf Benamar and you’ve been pretending all day. He tried to continuing lying saying he has multiple names. I showed him a picture of Achraf and he said yea that’s me a few years ago with shorter hair. I told him I’d also found his instagram and I know he was not Achraf. Finally, he gave in and said yes but it’s not his fault. Achraf was busy last minute and he had to cover for him. He said they didn’t tell me the truth because it’d cause confusion or I’d be unhappy that Achraf wasn’t available and cancel. I have no idea if that’s the truth, but it doesn’t matter because it’s unacceptable to lie about who you are. I also have no idea if Achraf is involved with this or not. But no matter what, do not book Achraf Benamar in Tangier. You’ll either get someone impersonating him as your guide or you’ll have a guide who will let someone else impersonate him and lie to his customers.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am deeply concerned to read about the upsetting experience you described. However, I must clearly and respectfully state that the booking and the guide mentioned in your review have absolutely no connection to my official services, tours, or business. I acknowledge that you initially reached out through my website, and I sincerely apologize for any communication delay you may have experienced. That said, I can confirm with certainty that the guide who met you on November 25th was not me, Achraf Benamar. To clarify the facts regarding my business and the claims made in the review: • Professional Status: I am an actively licensed tour guide operating daily in Tangier, Morocco, and I remain a recommended guide by Rick Steves. I apologize for any conflicting information you may have encountered in the past; I have been actively working to ensure accuracy across all platforms. • Impersonation: The individual you encountered, identifying himself as “Abrito Ismail,” is not affiliated with me in any way. He is neither an associate nor a subcontractor of my business. His explanation that “Abrito” is a “third name” is entirely false and appears to have been used to mislead you. Unfortunately, impersonation is an ongoing issue in Tangier, and my name has occasionally been used without authorization to secure bookings. • Identification: My official professional guide ID clearly displays the name Achraf Benamar. I personally conduct all tours booked directly with me and do not send substitute guides under any circumstances. I would also like to respectfully note that if there was any uncertainty at the beginning of the experience regarding the guide’s identity or whether the booking matched my confirmed details, that would have been the appropriate moment to pause and verify before proceeding. I am always available to confirm bookings directly, and I strongly encourage future guests to do so immediately if anything feels unclear. This simple step can help prevent situations such as the one described. For Future Guests and Booking Confirmation: To avoid impersonation and ensure you are booking directly with me, I kindly advise future travelers to: • Book exclusively through my official TripAdvisor page, Viator page, or the confirmed phone number and email listed on those platforms. These are the only channels I use to manage bookings. • Always ask to see a professional photo ID before the tour begins. The experience described in this review is truly unfortunate and unacceptable; however, it sadly resulted from impersonation and not from any service provided by me. I have submitted full documentation to TripAdvisor confirming that this booking has no relation to my business. Kind regards, Achraf Benamar Licensed Professional Tour Guide Tangier, Morocco
Benamar is very knowledgeable and took us all over. We loved the history and uniqueness of the Kasba and Medina areas. It was so fun to ride on the camels. The coast line and the Hollywood neighborhoods were beautiful.
If you're planning on visiting Tangier, Morocco, we highly recommend booking a tour with Achraf " Rafi". He is very professional, knowledgeable, interesting and kind. We learned so much about the history of Tangier. He then took us to a great restaurant for lunch with delicious food and got to visit several amazing sites and shops . He also took us on camel rides (a must). Do not hesitate to book a tour with Rafi, he's simply the best. We will definitely book with him again!
What a great experience, you will not be disappointed! Absolutely the best tour guiding experience I’ve had. He’s knowledgeable, attentive, funny, kind, well spoken and highlights his city in a magnificent way! He tailors the experience to the needs of the entire group. We got to see amazing sights with history highlights throughout the tour. There was also time made for photos, good eats and shopping. I truly can not say enough good things about this tour guide and it was truly worth every penny!
