La forteresse de Hwaseong est une structure impressionnante de la dernière partie de la dynastie Joseon (1392-1910). La forteresse a été construite pour afficher la piété filiale du roi Jeongjo envers son père.
Un Hwaseong Haenggung était un palais temporaire où le roi et la famille royale se sont retirés pendant une guerre. Le palais Hwaseong Haenggung est le plus grand de ceux-ci, utilisé par les rois Joseon depuis le règne du roi Jeongjo. Ce palais n'est pas seulement utilisé comme abri pendant la guerre, mais le roi Jeongjo y est resté pendant des voyages pour rendre un culte à la tombe de son père.
