We had an amazing day exploring southeastern Iceland with our guide, Jon Gardar Bjarnason. Jon was a knowledgeable and personable guide who has a terrific sense of humor. With his guidance, we walked away understanding the cultural and the lifestyle of the Icelandic people better. We visited the town of Hofn, and after experiencing a personal touch tour, we visited the scenic point overlooking the glaciers and finished our visit to Hofn with the best latte at Olis. We then went on to visit Diamond Beach and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The word “breathtaking” comes to mind. Jon pointed out significant elements of each area while encouraging individual and group photographs. He is an “outstanding” photographer. From there, we traveled on to Skutafoss Waterfall. Once again, without Jon’s guidance, we would not have experienced the best of the waterfalls. Along the way, we saw stone images of trolls, heard about elves, saw flocks of swans, and learned a lot about the Viking culture. Truly a memorable day! Thank you Jon!
Jon will be so happy to read this! 🌟 Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that you had such a memorable day exploring the Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, and the surrounding gems with him. Jon will be thrilled to know that his humor, storytelling, and photography skills made your experience even more special. It’s always our goal to not only showcase Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes but also to share the culture, history, and folklore that make our country unique — from Vikings and elves to trolls and swans! We’re so glad you enjoyed the personal touches, the scenic stops, and even the latte in Höfn. Thank you again for joining us and for your kind words — we hope to welcome you back for more adventures in Iceland someday!
We spent the day traveling from Djupivogur to the glacial lagoon and diamond beach. We had a couple of additional stops for views and Skutafoss waterfall. The small coach was comfortable and our driver was both knowledgeable and accommodating to the entire group's needs. We highly recommend this tour and tour operator.
Dear Jeffrey, Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the day trip from Djúpivogur to the Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, and that the extra stops like Skutafoss and scenic viewpoints added to the experience. It’s wonderful to know that you found the coach comfortable and that your driver was both knowledgeable and attentive to the group’s needs — we’ll be sure to share your feedback with them. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back to Iceland for more adventures in the future! Best regards, The Iceland Highlights Team
We had difficulty connecting with the tour at the port in Djupivogur. The port is quite small so this shouldn’t have happened. However - the tour itself was good. It’s over 2 hours drive from Djupivogur to the ice lagoon and beach, but worth it. We also stopped at Skudafoss waterfall but there has been little rain for the last couple of weeks so the flow of water was very low. We were blessed with a nice day with some sunshine and light wind, so great visibility after the morning fog lifted. A good time overall.
Dear Steve, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re sorry to hear there were some initial difficulties connecting at the port, but we’re glad everything worked out and you were able to enjoy the Glacier Lagoon and other stops on such a beautiful day. Your feedback helps us improve our meeting arrangements, and we truly appreciate your understanding. We’re delighted you had a good time overall and hope to welcome you back for more adventures in Iceland. Warm regards, The Iceland Highlights Team
Tour was cancelled one day prior, with no explanation provided as to why. To be fair, the operator did provide a refund and offered alternate tour possibilities, which unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of. A big disappointment, nonetheless.
Dear Max, We’re truly sorry for the disappointment caused by the last-minute cancellation. Unfortunately, this was due to the tour not reaching the minimum number of participants required to operate, and we missed arranging an alternative in time. We understand how frustrating this must have been and appreciate your understanding. Thank you for acknowledging the prompt refund and alternative options we offered — we hope to welcome you back to Iceland in the future for a smoother experience. Kind regards, The Iceland Highlights Team
Tour guide Einar was great. The tour to glacier lagoon and diamond beach and waterfall was a long drive but worth it! However, we were a group of 6 adults and they added two more adults at last minute. The van was packed tightly and not that comfortable and the people in the back row could not hear the guide. I would recommend this tour if they give you a large enough vehicle so you can hear the commentary and be comfortable on a very long round trip drive.
Dear Randee, Thank you for sharing your experience and for highlighting Einar’s guiding — we’re glad you enjoyed the Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, and waterfall despite the long journey. We truly appreciate your feedback regarding the vehicle size and comfort. Your comments help us improve, and we’ll work more closely with our operators to ensure groups are matched with appropriately sized vehicles so everyone can travel comfortably and enjoy the commentary. We’re grateful you joined us on this adventure and hope to welcome you back to Iceland in the future. Warm regards, The Iceland Highlights Team
To be fair the weather was bad. But 2h each way in a van and the guide had no audio system and a very low voice. He said he would answer questions but not talk. We didn't know enough to ask the right questions. Definitely the least enjoyable (and most expensive) of our Iceland shore excursions. There's not much on offer from this port but I would recommend finding another way to the glacier lagoon.
Dear Tyegator, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback — we truly value hearing from you. I’m sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, especially given the long journey and the weather conditions on the day. We absolutely understand how important it is to have a guide who is engaging and clearly audible throughout the tour. We have already discussed this with our team and the guide to ensure improvements are made, including better use of audio equipment and more proactive commentary so guests feel informed and engaged even if they don’t have specific questions to ask. Your comments help us get better, and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share them. Should you return to Iceland, we would love the chance to welcome you on another experience and provide you with a more enjoyable day.
Iceland Highlights customer service did an amazing job to adjust our departure time following our needs(we reached Djupivogur port with cruise ship). Same did our super nice driver/tour guide John who finally gave us time to do more than what we expected and told us lots of stories and history of Iceland. We had an amazing tour ! I really recommend it

We took this trip during a cruise over Iceland. The guide picked us up at Djupivogur port. The drive to the glacier in a van was quite comfortable. Gunnar, our guide is a real enthusiast fascinated by glaciers. He shared interesting stories and lots of local insights. Visiting the glacier gives a fantastic impression. Even if you do not have much time, seeing a glacier is a must-do in this area. Make sure you dress warmly. It was +20 when we left Djupivogur, but at the glacier it was windy and freezing cold. We took several other stops to see the ‘diamond beach’ and waterfalls. The entire drive and every stop offered stunning views of Icelandic nature.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our Glacier Lagoon tour from Djupivogur! We're thrilled to hear that you had an unforgettable experience and enjoyed the stunning views of Icelandic nature. Gunnar will be delighted to hear your kind words about his guidance and enthusiasm for glaciers. We appreciate your tip about dressing warmly; the glacier can indeed be much colder than the port. We hope to welcome you on another adventure soon!
