Fort du début du siècle. XVI, utilisé pour protéger et combattre les corsaires algériens et les troupes philippines au milieu du siècle. XVIe et XVIIe. Il nous offre une vue d'une partie du cône de scories de ce qui serait le deuxième volcan qui a créé l'île de Santa Maria, il y a environ 8,7 millions d'années.

Désert Rouge ou Barreiro da Faneca, une vaste zone d'environ 8 hectares de cendres volcaniques qui ont subi un processus d'oxydation il y a environ 3,5 millions d'années. On a l'impression d'être sur Mars
Coopérative de boulangerie/pâtisserie et d'artisanat qui continue de valoriser, à travers l'art de ses salariés, le patrimoine séculaire des habitants de l'île à travers son pain, ses biscuits auriculaires et ses tissages. Point d'arrêt obligatoire
En mémoire de l'arrêt de Cristovão Colombo à Lugar dos Anjos en 1493 où il a dit la messe dans la chapelle de N. Sra de Sant'Ana.

We came for the day from Ponta Delgada. Early arrival at 7 a.m. for a 9 a.m. tour start. But thanks to Miguel, our guide, that was not a problem because he met us at the airport and dropped us off in the city center for breakfast and a visit before the start of the tour. Miguel is an exceptionally kind guide and helped us discover Santa Maria in an exceptional way. We visited all the sites and he shared his passion for his island with us. Same accompaniment at the end of the day for a return to the airport at 8 p.m., well after the end of the tour. We recommend Smatur and especially Miguel. 👍

A day our family will never forget, thanks to our guide, Ricardo. He shared his love and knowledge of this beautiful island. He was incredibly kind with my elderly parents, ensuring their safety. My husband and I want to take a moment to acknowledge Miguel and our tour guide, Ricardo, who hosted us during our visit to Santa Maria, Azores. This trip was very personal for us! We had a full day tour with Miguel. He was excellent, making sure we saw absolutely everything there was to see and experiencing some of the wonders of tge island including walking barefoot on deep moss and swimming in the sea. Nothing was too much trouble. The day was full of humour and information. Very memorable.
