Andre was a brilliant guide. Informed, humorous and considerate. 4 hours flew by and we were blown away by the scenery. The off roading was exhilarating but nothing beats the landscape. It’s a top 10 experience and a must for anyone who visits Sao Miguel
The three of us found this activity and were excited to try because many of the provider and guest photos showed a lot of riders on what we in Alaska call an ATV (I own one and have driven it many times) so that's what we thought we signed up for. Buuut .... it turns out we signed up for the dune buggy looking thing, which was disappointing, but we made the best of it. We were told that a drive-your-own ATV experience does not exist here (I have done the drive-your-own ATV in Sicily, on Mount Etna - very fun!) The tour starts and ends in Ponta Delgada, so there is a lot of road driving before arriving at Sete Cidades. There was one segment, maybe 15-20 minutes long, of what I would call off road, up a inclined gravelly trail to the top of a viewpoint, and another 15-20 minute segment on a level gravel road near the crater lake. There were four buggies: one with the guide and three with guests. We stopped at several viewpoints as well as a small cafe for a 30-min break. The guide, João, was outstanding! Very knowledgeable, caring, friendly, and enthusiastic. He often took photos for people, and took care that everyone was safe and well. This website asks if I would recommend to a friend, and only allows yes or no as an answer. I would say maybe. Don't go by the photos like we did: contact the provider to see exactly what you will be riding/driving, and make sure the difference between "ATV", "quad bike", and "buggy" is clear. At first it felt like a bait and switch, but we did not clarify, and it wasn't clear to us, so that's on us. We did make the best of it, we did get some incredible photos, João totally saved the day, and we left with a smile.
Hi Lisa, We need to clarify an important point in this review: you received the vehicle option that was booked. Our booking page offers several different vehicle options, and the vehicle type is shown during the reservation process. The ATV/quad option and the SSV/buggy option are separate products and like you stated are the exact same terms are used also in Portugal. In your case, the booking made was for the SSV/buggy, which accommodates 2–6 people — not the individual ATV/quad experience. Your review states that you expected an ATV because of photos you had seen, but also acknowledges that you did not clarify the vehicle type before booking. Unfortunately, we cannot substitute what was assumed from photos for the option actually selected and reserved. We are always happy to change vehicles at check-in when availability allows. On that day, however, the ATVs were fully booked, so a change was not possible. We are glad that you enjoyed the tour, the scenery, the stops, and especially João’s service, and that you left with great photos and a smile. However, we think it is important for future guests reading this review to understand that the booked service was provided as reserved; this was not a case of our company changing or misrepresenting the vehicle after booking. We encourage all guests to read the selected vehicle option carefully when reserving, particularly when choosing between ATV/quad and SSV/buggy experiences.
Ricardo was very friendly and efficient and did a great job of during the group!!
Hi Andre, thank you so much for an excellent ATV tour of Sete Cidades! Our whole family had such a fantastic time. You were a wonderful guide, and the scenery, trails, and adventure made it a truly memorable experience for all of us. We really appreciate your knowledge, enthusiasm, and care throughout the tour. It was one of the highlights of our family trip. Thank you again, Andre!
Great views, and enjoyed my first time on an ATV, though I would recommend wearing a mask unless you want to look like you came from Dune
Tour was extremely fun! Our tour guide was wonderful and took as down beautiful trails to find multiple amazinf views as Sete Cidaded and the twin lakes!
I had an absolutely amazing experience exploring São Miguel, and a huge part of that was thanks to Juan. As a solo traveler, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from the very beginning he made me feel comfortable, welcome, and completely at ease. Juan went above and beyond to show me some of the most beautiful and unforgettable spots on the island. He clearly knows the area extremely well and shared places and views that I would never have discovered on my own. Every stop felt special, and his enthusiasm for the island made the experience even better. What stood out the most was how genuine and friendly he was throughout the entire trip. Rather than feeling like I was on a typical tour, it felt like I was exploring the island with a close friend. He was professional, respectful, easy to talk to, and always made sure I was enjoying myself. To top it all off, after spending the day exploring together, Juan even kindly dropped me off at the airport. That level of care and hospitality is rare and truly appreciated. If you’re visiting São Miguel and have the opportunity to tour with Juan, don’t hesitate. He helped turn my solo trip into one of the most memorable travel experiences I’ve ever had. Highly recommended!
This was a great way to see part of the island. We loved riding around in the buggies and getting a different perspective of the northwestern side of the island. All the views were breathtaking. Getting to the meeting spot was easy. It can get a little chilly, so I recommend having a light raincoat or sweatshirt.
Our tour guide Andres was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and checked on us throughout the tour to make sure the experience was good.
The buggy tour was such a great experience. Even though the weather was rainy and foggy, I had so much fun touring sete cidades. My guide was great and altered the route to allow me to see cool sights even with the fog. He was also very knowledgeable about the area and answered any questions that I had. I would 100% recommend this experience for anyone looking for something memorable to do while visiting!
Thank you for the kind review was great to be able to show you our little island in the middle of the Atlantic.
