Votre visite à Athènes commence par la colline de l'Acropole qui sera le point culminant de votre journée. Sur la colline historique, vous aurez l'occasion de voir l'Odéon d'Hérode Atticus, le Temple d'Athéna Nike, la porte monumentale (Propylées), l'Érechthéion et bien sûr le célèbre Parthénon, le temple principal dédié à la déesse Athéna.
Les Propylées sont l'entrée monumentale de l'espace sacré dédié à Athéna, la déesse patronne de la ville. Construits par l'architecte Mnésiclès avec du marbre du Pentélique, leur conception était avant-gardiste. Au sud-ouest des Propylées, sur un rempart protégeant l'entrée principale de l'Acropole, se trouve le temple ionien d'Apteros Nike.
Le Parthénon, le temple principal dédié à la déesse vierge Athéna. Le symbole éternel de la démocratie athénienne et de la civilisation occidentale.
L'Érechthéion ou temple d'Athéna Polias est un ancien temple-telesterion ionique grec situé au nord de l'Acropole, le lieu le plus fort et le plus sacré de l'Athènes antique, principalement dédié à la déesse Athéna.
Le temple d'Athéna Nike est un temple sur l'Acropole d'Athènes, dédié aux déesses Athéna et Nike. Construit vers 420 av. J.-C., le temple est le premier temple entièrement ionique de l'Acropole.
Le théâtre de Dionysos Eleuthereus est un théâtre majeur d'Athènes, considéré comme le premier théâtre du monde, construit au pied de l'Acropole d'Athènes.
Situé sur le versant sud de l'Acropole, l'Odéon d'Hérodes Atticus est un théâtre en pierre de l'époque romaine construit en 161 de notre ère en mémoire de la femme d'Hérode Atticus, Regilla. Réputé pour son acoustique exceptionnelle, il a déjà accueilli 5 000 spectateurs et des spectacles de musique et de théâtre. Aujourd'hui, il sert de lieu de choix pour le Festival d'Athènes, offrant des événements inoubliables dans le contexte emblématique de l'Acropole.
Après notre visite de l'Acropole, nous nous dirigerons vers le Temple de Zeus, le plus grand temple de l'Antiquité, consacré au Roi des Dieux, en passant par l'Arche d'Hadrien.
Chef-d'œuvre architectural moderne au pied de l'Acropole, le Musée de l'Acropole présente une superbe collection d'artefacts des périodes archaïque et classique, avec un accent particulier sur l'Acropole du Ve siècle avant notre ère. Les points forts incluent la galerie du Parthénon, des sculptures anciennes et l'intégration remarquable d'un quartier athénien fouillé visible sous les planchers de verre. Ouvert en 2009, ce musée primé offre un mélange unique d'histoire ancienne et de design contemporain, ce qui en fait une visite incontournable pour tout passionné d'histoire.
Nous visiterons le stade panathénaïque où se sont déroulés les premiers Jeux olympiques modernes en 1896.
Nous verrons la relève de la garde (Euzones) devant l'ancien palais, qui est aujourd'hui le Parlement, au-dessus de la place centrale d'Athènes.
Le Parlement hellénique, en grec connu sous le nom de "Voulí ton Ellínon", est le parlement de la Grèce, situé dans l'ancien palais royal, surplombant la place Syntagma. Le Parlement est l'institution démocratique suprême qui représente les citoyens par le biais d'un corps élu de députés.
La place Syntagma est la place centrale d'Athènes. La place porte le nom de la Constitution qu'Othon, le premier roi de Grèce, a été obligé d'accorder après un soulèvement populaire et militaire le 3 septembre 1843.
Le bâtiment de l'Académie constitue l'une des trois parties d'une « trilogie architecturale ». Elle a été fondée par le décret constitutionnel du 18 mars 1926 en tant qu'Académie des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts.
La Bibliothèque nationale de Grèce a été construite à la fin du XIXe siècle, comme la dernière de la trilogie architecturale d'Athènes, un groupe de trois bâtiments néoclassiques qui comprend également l'Académie et l'Université. Le bâtiment a été conçu par M. Theophil Hansen.
En continuant vers le centre historique de la ville, nous monterons la plus haute colline d'Athènes, la colline du Lycabette, où vous aurez la meilleure vue panoramique de la ville, de la colline de l'Acropole à la mer Égée.

My wife and I had a wonderful day in Athens with Dimitri, our driver. We had one day to see as much of Athens as possible and we were able to make the most of it. Dimitri picked us up promptly at our cruise ship location at 8:30 am, loaded up our bags and we were off to a fabulous tour of Athens. Dimitri was extremely pleasant and friendly and provided us with a great deal of information about the history of Athens as he took us to see many of the sights that the city is famous for, but also some lesser known, but just as important, to include the Panathenaic Stadium and the Parliament Building (former King's Palace). We even got to witness the changing of the guard. He made several stops for photo opportunities along the way, which we much appreciated, and was always ready to take photos of the two of us. We had ample time to explore the Acropolis area when he dropped us off at the main entrance. Next we toured the Acropolis museum, then were off to hike up to the top of Mount Lycabettus, where we had a spectacular 360 degree view of Athens. As our tour came to an end, Dimitri delivered us to our hotel just in time to check in. It was a very full day, but completed in just 6 1/5 hours. We were able to do so much more in a short amount of time with a private driver because he was able to get us to places where buses were unable to get to, plus we had some flexibility with our itinerary. So much value for our $$. Highly recommend this tour and Dimitri, our driver and tour guide.

I had the absolute pleasure of doing two full-day tours with George and his incredible team of drivers and tour guides, and I can confidently say it was one of the best travel experiences of my life. On the first day, we explored the highlights of Athens — including the iconic Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum, and other stunning historical landmarks. Everything was perfectly timed, and the guide’s knowledge made every moment memorable. The second day took us on a breathtaking journey to Delphi and Thermopylae — where we stood on the very ground where the legendary 300 Spartans faced the Persian army. It was surreal and deeply moving. We also had lunch at a beautiful mountain-top restaurant with an incredible view and top-tier food — truly unforgettable. The Mercedes mini-van was in perfect condition, super comfortable, and made the long drives relaxing. The price was also very reasonable for the level of service we received. I absolutely fell in love with Greece — its landscapes, its food, and its people. I haven’t even left yet, and I already want to come back. Eva, our guide, was a fountain of information. We toured the Parthenon, Acropolis, Acropolis Museum and the Theater of Dionysus. As a former archaeologist, she offered great historical information and entertaining mythological stories of all the spots.
