Cette visite stimulante, UNIQUE et ENGAGANTE, « Plus jamais ça », a été créée pour aider les visiteurs à découvrir les réalités et les cauchemars de l'une des périodes les plus sombres de l'histoire moderne. Il est temps d'entreprendre un voyage de conscience, une quête de souvenir et de changement. On ne parle pas assez de ce qui s’est passé, nous devons faire en sorte que cela ne se reproduise plus. Nous parlerons des victimes de ce camp de concentration et de la Shoah en général, et ferons des parallèles avec l'actualité. La conversation est conçue pour nous mettre tous au défi. Choses à noter : La visite est destinée aux personnes âgées de 13 ans ou plus. Chaque guide sera identifié par un petit drapeau jaune et notre nom ! Cette visite implique beaucoup de marche.

Notre promenade depuis la gare nous mène au centre des visiteurs, où des modèles détaillés du camp expliquent les structures physiques conçues pour le contrôle et la perpétuation de la supériorité sur les prisonniers. Découvrez la transformation troublante de l’ancien camp d’entraînement SS en l’actuelle académie de police de Brandebourg, un rappel brutal de la sombre histoire du site. Embarquez pour une exploration autonome de la caserne des prisonniers et de la cuisine du camp, où des néo-nazis niant la Shoah ont lancé des attaques. Découvrez les liens avec le présent, y compris la montée de l'AfD, un groupe d'extrême droite allemand. Enfin, l’infirmerie dévoile les profondeurs du racisme, le contrôle du corps des femmes, l’eugénisme et la troublante vérité des prisonniers traités comme des rats de laboratoire pour l’avancement de carrière des médecins nazis. Ce voyage profond nous met au défi de confronter le passé, de comprendre le présent et de lutter pour un avenir qui rejette les atrocités de l’histoire.

There are no words to describe what happened there but there are some for this visit: very friendly guide, understandable explanations with language appropriate to the situation. We were able to ask all the questions we had because there were only 8. I recommend Siobhan as a guide!

We toured in February and despite the cold and atmosphere of the camp, our guide managed to keep the tone to explain clearly what was at stake in this camp. I really enjoyed the experience but I wish I "never" needed to make such a visit again. The team was very attentive to our needs.

I was on the fence about visiting Sachsenhausen but in the end I was really glad that I made the trip and used with this outfit. To be clear, this is not a dense, academic, scripted tour but still one that thoroughly explains Sachsenhausen's uniquely grim history as, first, the Nazi's "model" concentration camp, later a Soviet "special" camp and finally a pro-communist, anti-fascist propaganda tool. What I liked about and believe differentiates this tour, is that our guide Siobhán's knowledgable commentary was filtered through a progressive, feminist lens, connecting the past with the present. (It is not heavy handed, but if this is not your political slant, this might not be the tour for you.) Siobhán was very sensitive to the extraordinary brutality, suffering, and loss of life that took place at Sachsenhausen as well as the feelings of those who visit the site, and she imparted this deference to the group. That said, while she rightfully set a respectful tone, she also managed to insert an appropriate level of levity (if that is the right word?) at certain points, so that while the tour was certainly very sad and at times absolutely sickening, I left feeling educated-- better, not broken. I will also add that a few participants (including me) had travel snags, and the outfitter was very helpful, patient and communicative. All in all, it was a very positive experience that I would recommend to friends.
