We had such a fun day in Ketchikan today! Juan picked us up right outside our cruise ship at 9:30am in a very comfortable luxury van. We spent 4 hours with him exploring Herring Cove watching for bears (we saw 4!), then we head over to the beach to watch eagles, hung out watching salmon and seals in the water and then headed up to rainbow falls. We ended our day on Creek Street and it was the perfect combination of nature, wildlife and local area history we were looking for. Juan was knowledgable, easy going and fun to spend the day with! Highly recommend this option in Ketchikan!
We had Juan as our guide. He was absolutely excellent. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this private tour. We had a great day!!
We got off of the carnival cruise ship and were greeted by Amanda! She is awesome and took us all around to see great local spots, fed eagles, ate smoked salmon and got to go see the rainbow waterfall! Highly recommend touring the island with her, she is great.
My family and I visted Ketchikan during May 2026 and we used Ketchikan Expeditions for a customized tour while we were there. We were able to focus solely on what interested us during our short port stay and they even dropped us back off at the boat so we didn't have to wait for the shuttle. Our tour guide Amanda was AMAZING! She was very dedicated to making sure we got to experience exactly what we wanted while there and was very knowledgeable about the area. Seeing the totem poles was a huge highlight I personally wanted to see, so she took us out to Potlatch Park where she explained all the different totem poles on the property as well as the process used to carve them, along with a lot of other information! Next we went out to a spot where Amanda fed herring to the eagles so we could watch them swoop in up close! This was the coolest thing! Our kids really enjoyed watching the eagles fly in from all direction to get their snack and we were able to capture several really great videos as a memento from our trip. While there, we were also able to purchase some locally smoked salmon and that was the BEST thing we ate on our trip. The last stop for us was Creek Street where Amanda personally led us down Creek street, took pictures for us, and told us a lot of the local history along the way. It was neat to see the area where the salmon will run later in the season and experience the history of Alaska's first city! Overall we had a perfect day in Ketchikan thanks to Ketchikan Expeditions and especially our tour guide Amanda! I highly recommend using them if you are spending any time in town and make sure you ask for AMANDA!
Juan was absolutely incredible! Our group of seven, ranging in age from 40 to 91, had the time of our lives touring Ketchikan with him on 6/21/26. It was a perfect, sunny 70-degree day, and Juan made it unforgettable by sharing endless history and fascinating local fun facts. We were thrilled to spot bears, bald eagles, and other amazing wildlife, and he even treated us to fresh salmon berries right off the vine and crisp, refreshing water from Beaver Falls—known to many as Rainbow Falls. Juan went above and beyond to show us all the hidden local gems, including drinks at the 49er Bar, a delicious meal at the Barn Door Eatery, and stops to sample smoked salmon and pick up jam from Alaskan Brand. The sightseeing was top-notch, covering Herring Cove, Creek Street, the Totem Heritage Center, and Potlatch Park. You can truly see the deep love and pride Juan has for his town in the way he hosts. We had such a blast that we are already looking forward to our next visit for another farewell drink at the Arctic Bar! Cheers!
Our day with Juan was one of the highlights of our entire Alaska trip. From the moment we met him, it felt less like a tour and more like spending the day with a knowledgeable local friend who genuinely loves where he lives and enjoys sharing it with others. Juan introduced us to Ketchikan and Alaska in a deeply personal way, sharing his own story while teaching us about the culture, history, and realities of life in a small fishing town. We learned so much about commercial fishing, local schools, job opportunities, wildlife, and what it takes to live in Alaska year-round. He knew exactly where to take us for unforgettable experiences. We watched salmon swimming upstream, spotted numerous eagles in beautiful off-the-beaten-path locations, and even encountered two juvenile male black bears during a hike. Throughout the entire experience, we felt completely safe and well cared for. What made this tour special wasn't just the incredible wildlife and scenery—it was Juan's ability to bring Alaska to life through his stories, insights, and passion for the community. Every stop felt authentic and meaningful. This tour was worth every penny, and we loved every minute of it. If you're looking for a genuine, personalized Alaska experience, we cannot recommend Juan highly enough.
We got off the cruise and went to this building and right away we approached the friendliest lady on the far corner Amanda to book a tour around with her. She was absolutely amazing. We had the most best time with her. She was so fun and friendly made sure we got to see everything in the amount of time that we had went out of her way to make everything extra special we talked we sang we had a fun time. She made sure that we got us back to our ship and enough time to go through the gift store and get on the boat. Absolutely if you come in to catch a ride and book a tour with Amanda. She is number one . Also, as we were loading into her van to takeoff for an adventure, her boss was across the road just waving and happy as can be definitely good people.
We walked off the ship without anything booked.Spoked with a rep from Ketchikan Expeditions and on the spot they helped us plan a day.Our driver Juan being a resident of Alaska took us and explained the Alaskian way of life. His love of his home was so refreshing. The price was very fair and worth every penny. Thanks Juan for a great day!
