Description

Bearing Sea Crab was a blast !

The Bearing Sea Aleutian Ballad Crab excursion is a 5 Star Show and well worth it. The crew was very interesting and informative as well as excellent interaction with the crowd.

Crabbing 101

The sharing of their stories was wonderful! Loved getting a chance to handle the animals too! Enjoyed the photo op with them all at the end.

Norwegian excursion / NCL - Worth the time and cost??

Let me start by saying a lot of the people loved this excursion (I do not know what ship they were on), however my family and I did not think it was worth it - myself, husband, daughter (21) and daughter (19), even though we all loved the deadliest catch show. We found it overpriced for what you get - a VERY overcrowded boat. If you are on Norwegian it will be the only thing you get to do in Ketchikan. Norwegian docks at Ward Cove, which is a 25-30 minute bus ride to where the Bering Sea boat docks, which means by the time you get there all of the lower seats are taken up by Princess and Holland cruise ship passengers - they do not have to take a bus, they dock right there. My family of 4 had a hard time finding 4 seats together…..my husband and one daughter ended up needing to sit on their rain pants as the only seats left were wet, we had to sit in front of them, not with them - the seats were upstairs and not as protected as the lower seats, they were also very cold while the boat was going from place to place and we went on a warm rainless day. The stories were nice and seeing the bald eagles (just a few) were the highlight for us, but for the price the excursion was not worth it. The boat was overly packed and hard to maneuver around. They have a gift shop, which is only worth it if you like shopping elbow to elbow with other people. Touching the crab, etc….again if you are on Norwegian you will most likely be upstairs and will have to maneuver through the crowd to be able to do this. Need to go to the bathroom, there are 3, but expect to wait in line. Want a snack or crab, which are in the gift shop, again you have to maneuver through the crowd. They do give you a small bag of whole grain gold fish. The $300 per person price tag for this excursion is not worth fighting a VERY overcrowded boat and missing out on everything else Ketchikan may have to offer. We seen Ketchikan as we drove through it, but that was it. As my 19 year old said, it was kind of fun, but was not a good way to spend our time in Ketchikan and for me not worth the money. As a comparison, for a little less money we did a whale watching and glacier photo hike the day before, that excursion only had 14 people including us! Plenty of room to move around on a much smaller boat. That was an awesome experience!!! I felt bad for the crab, etc that they have in the tank, but felt even worse for the octopus that they have in a barrel. They say that they only keep the octopus in there for a few days, but even that is too long. One star for the bald eagles and one star for the stories - no stars for the VERY overcrowded experience.

We are sorry to hear you didnt have a great experience like everyone else. We do not get to set the price that the cruise lines charge and agree that $300 is a bit much for this excursion. If you look on Viator you can purchase for $249 which is more in the price range. Sadly we do not control that NCL built their own dock 7 miles north of town. for decades all excursion depart from the downtown location. We hope you enjoyed the rest of the Alaskan cruise.

Eagles and Crabs Galore!

This was a fun experience, especially if you watch the show Deadliest Catch. The hands-on experience of holding different creatures was fun. But for me, the highlight was the eagles swooping down to catch fish tossed in the air and into the sea. It was magnificent! The crew told personal stories and adventures that were interesting and heartfelt.

Fun for the whole family.

Great experience led by a very seasoned crew of long time fishermen with lots of great stories. Seeing eagles soaring and diving for fish close up was amazing.

The inside story of crabbing

What a great experience! There was just one detail I miss read. I was under the impression that we were going to the Bering Sea. Not so much. Puttered around the bays. Silly of me to think this. Great job from the crew.

Do Not Miss This Tour!

I cannot more highly recommend this tour!! It was fun and interesting from beginning to end for my entire family. Every single person who worked on the tour was kind, friendly and so knowledgeable. We learned so much and didn't even realize it. That's how good they are. AND most importantly, do not miss the King Crab they sell on the boat. Yes - its pricey. But it was literally the best crab, I've ever eaten and worth every single penny.

Just ok

Overpriced for what you get. Interesting stories from engaging fishermen, nice opportunity to handle the crab, snails, prawns and such. The video inside the boat of the actual fishing experiences is very poor and hard to watch- use the tv show version. You can buy crab on the boat which was very pricey served cold with warm butter. Overall it was just ok.

The video was filmed on 2005 when the boat took the rogue wave. Hopefully you found something enjoyable throughout the 3 hours.
