We were notified Monday before the Thurs. tour it was canceled by operator who said due to weather; but he also said we could drive to charleston Thurs and atch their carriage/boat tours! He admitted there wasn't enough ppl to send the bus to myrtle beach. So disappointing. BTW no rain. Better check near the tour date to be sure it's going to happen.
Great time knowledgeable guides and our bus driver was wonderful and explained how the trip worked. Smooth transition from one excursion to the next
If you are a couple staying a whole week in Myrtle Beach, I highly recommend this day trip. Kids will likely enjoy it too because you get to ride in a carriage and a ferry, but they may tire quickly and are not quite as interested in the historical part of Charleston. It was perfect for us because we flew in and didn't rent a car. I booked the afternoon before and they were able to get us in. It was a well organized day. The bus itself was fantastic! It was clean, comfortable, and great air conditioning! The bus driver was a fantastic driver. We was picked up right in front of our resort. I never once felt unsafe. The ride home does take quite a bit longer due to traffic. The driver always gave us precise instructions. The carriage ride was first. It was fun, and I really enjoyed learning about the history of Charleston. As soon as the ride was over, you have to head back to the bus to go to the harbor boat tour. You do not have any time to shop at the market. I read that you would have about an hour to shop at the market after the carriage tour. You have no time to shop. The harbor tour was great. It was my favorite part. I wish we could have gotten off at Ft. Sumter, but that is a separate fairy ride. The box lunch was delicious. You don't have a choice of your sandwich though. I think they were all turkey. The harbor tour almost should be advertised as a dolphin tour because we saw several. As soon as that was over, we headed to Boone Hall. First, I would like to point out that Patriot's Point is also an option if you opt out of Boone Hall. I wish we would have chosen that option. Boone Hall was nice to see though. I learned some history about the Gullah culture. You don't spend too long there. You start heading back to Myrtle Beach between 3:45-4:00. Your experience may depend on the other guests on the day trip with you. Everybody has to be mindful of the time and meet promptly at the time given. Thankfully, that wasn't an issue with our tour. We was the last to be picked up, and the last to be dropped off, but I didn't mind because I wanted to see more of the Ocean Blvd. strip. Overall, it was a great experience and I wasn't disappointed.
The carriage ride was nice, but not the romantic trip I had pictured as we were with 13 other riders. The tour guide did a good job telling us about the city! The Harbor Tour didn't happen because of mechanical issues, so we spent more time in the markets. The trip to Boone Hall Plantation was nice. We especially enjoyed the gardens and the Gullah Culture presentation at the former slave cabins. Because of the Harbor Tour being cancelled, the driver told us that we would receive a $30 refund per person. The refund has yet to be received back to our checking account.
Very informative , fun, entertaining!! The carriage ride and market so fun. The cruise delightful! We learned to much history and fun facts
A great experience learning about Charleston SC. Carriage ride was fun. Harbour tour was good also. Learned a lot. Boone Hall is all walking. Items scheduled for us and did not need to arrange things.
Carriage ride was great. Our driver, Paul, was very knowledgeable and had a terrific sense of humor. The Harbor cruise was relaxing and enjoyable. Our bus driver did a great job of getting everyone to where they had to be.
Admittedly, we did not know what to expect. I should have researched a little more. The tour itself was fine- but a few things to consider. 1. The Bus Driver - should not talk so much and drive, he was easily distracted - looking out windows, there were several minor swerves. We were honked at twice for crossing the lane next to us. He drove snails pace, then normal, then snails pace over and over. 2. Upon arrival in Charleston - we and several others took the carriage ride- was fine, nothing special. When the driver dropped us off he gave instructions as to how to get our way back to the bus (walking) One couple was struggling to walk and none of us realizes we would be dropped off a few streets over from the drop off. We found our way back just fine but still- should be more clear and when you have a couple with walking restrictions be mindful- she had a walker but left it at the bus not knowing she would have to walk several blocks. I felt badly for her. 3. Harbor tour- 3 couples - us included were not on the roster and how embarrassing the boat driver was waiting for us. My husband called the reservation # and the rep said to let the 6 of us on and he would sort it out later. Blah! embarrassing and not great seating or communication regarding lunch either. That being said, through word of mouth on the boat we knew to get up and get our box lunch. The sandwich (we didn't have a choice just given a meal) but it was REALLY GOOD and the bread was a fresh as could be! Others had options for lunch not sure why we were not offered an option? 4. Boone Plantation was really nice to see. Side note- we had the bulk of time here and didn't need but 1/2 of it. The Home tour was fast because you cannot go through the whole estate. I would say 3 stars because the communication was really poor, the driver scared us more than once. I forgot to add, literally my husband had to yell "heads up" because traffic in front of us was at a stand still. When you book - there should be maps, and meet up locations specifically noted because you do not stay with your group- everyone does their thing. For the price I would never do this again. We would drive ourselves. Fort Sumpter would have been a better tour.
This isn’t a “Charleston” tour and is mostly a Boone Plantation Tour. You start your day at 6:30 am and it could take up to 7:00 am for the bus to arrive at your stop. The pickup is before any coffee shops are open and there are no coffee shops open. We had to give up our Charleston Carriage ride to het coffee. Then, we realized Charleston is not an open for business district in the morning. The stores were closed and the historic shopping strip was setting up. The boat tour was OK as you weren’t actually experiencing Charleston. The bus ride is also quiet with no narration. Meaning, while you’re heading to Charleston or the Boone Plantation, you’re getting zero information. We booked last minute so we were relying on the “tour guide” experience. It was not worth the approximately $400 we spent. Those who are well traveled. Will be underwhelmed by this experience. We heard rumbling from other passengers that felt like the tour was a bit shortsighted, and that we didn’t really get to experience Charleston. Noting that we had to choose between coffee or the carriage ride. I was really upset that they’re picking you up before the café in your hotel or any of the coffee shops on the street are open., that they’re not giving you any opportunity to get caffeinated. This tour would’ve been better if you were starting later in the morning, remove the whole Boone plantation option, and really received a legitimate tour of historic Charleston. Opportunities to go into some of the churches or grab a drink or something to eat from one of the popular venues would’ve been great. Even just a chance to go shopping, or learn a little bit more history/modern day culture. These are all just my opinions. For many people, especially those who are locals of the Carolinas. They really did enjoy themselves. We might have different expectations, considering how much our family travels. I will see the Boone plantation was fun, but I would’ve gladly given that up for more of a Charleston experience.
horse and carriage ride excellent. harbor cruise nice but the lunch not so much. boone plantation excellent
