I was fortunate enough to have my tour be a private tour as no one else signed up. Josh was a fantastic guide and provided so much information on Japanese cuisine, Kyoto, and Japan in general. He lived in the States for a long time so his English was excellent. Highly recommend this tour-you’ll leave full and have a better appreciation for Kyoto!

Yumi was a great guide. We learned a lot about Japanese food, ate lots of delicious food, had fun and were able to discuss many different topics related to Japan during our tour. Thanks Yumi!
Yuuki was awesome and fun. She made the trip enjoyable.
We had an amazing time on our food tour with Rika! As a Kyoto native, she gave us insights into the local culture, foods, and history. She is a delightful host, and our family really enjoyed spending the evening with her. She walked us through Gion and showed us points of interest, and she was so thoughtful in offering to take scenic pictures of our family. The food was delicious and varied, and each of the three restaurants was intimate and welcoming. We especially loved the first spot where we had a full traditional meal. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you, Rika, for a wonderful evening!

A great way to sample different types of food, highly recommend! We enjoyed it
Masa was a great guide who took us to 3 very unique eateries that as tourists we would have no chance of finding. Delicious local food and drinks. Our picky daughter was well catered for. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. Thoroughly recommended.
This was without any doubt the worst tour we have ever had. My family and I have literally done over a dozen similar food tours not mention other tours and this one was bad on every level. The guide, Jay, was largely disengaged and lacked any insights on the food. That said we picked from menus that were set with generic offerings set for tours. That might have been ok except the food was very subpar. Additionally, it was not a way to really taste only experience sake. Cheap sake was offered in each of the several places we visited and we learned nothing about it. It was a rainy night which, in fairness, made it harder. Jay did share some insights about the history and buildings so it was not completely lacking merit. When we got to the “dessert” stop no one wanted to continue but we didn’t to appease Jay. Adding insult to injury my wife never got her dessert. We then said we were done. I waited a while to write this because we continued travels in Japan and then Taiwan and I thought I should see how other tours were but the rest were all excellent. I also thought maybe this company is bad and others like With Locals were just better. However, Magic Trip gave a is a great Hidden Hills tour with a guide named Jimmy as well as a cooking class making ramen and dumplings. The company has to fix this tour. I am irritated at the experience and cost. It will give me pause with ever picking them again as they should have never let this happen. I am not sure if readers can see my other reviews but if you can you will see I am not one that complains. I have been fortunate to I have had many great tours and gave reviews that reflected this. If you need a food tour in Kyoto look at other options and if you don’t see them press Magic Trip to ensure that you get assurances that this experience will not be repeated.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that this tour did not meet your expectations. We especially apologize for the issues regarding the food quality, sake experience, guide engagement, and the missed dessert for your wife. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide. We appreciate your honest comments and are grateful that you also acknowledged the positive experiences you had on our other tours. Your feedback has been shared with our team and will be carefully reviewed as we work to improve this tour. Thank you again for bringing these concerns to our attention, and we sincerely apologize for the disappointment caused.
Nami did a great job showing us around the Gion area and guiding us through some delicious food and drinks. She was energetic, fun and knowledgeable. If you want a relaxing, authentic and fun experience, this tour is for you.
It was well organized and the streets we walked through and small food spots we ate at took us to areas we didn't know about yet, but returned to because the ambiance was so nice. Thank you Nami for your wealth of information, and friendliness. You spoke really good English and made sure we learned some history and ate good food with a reason and story behind it. Well done! We really enjoyed ourselves and getting to know you.
