Kyoto: Rencontrez la Geisha Maiko avec Gion Walking Tour

Description

We had such a lovely afternoon! The walking tour gave us a great feel for the neighborhood vibe and was just the right length and detail. Our tour guide was so kind and thoughtful and the group was just the right size. The experience with the Maiko and the owner of the Tea House (a Geiko) was amazing. We loved learning the history and seeing the performance. Most of all, I’m so impressed with how generous everyone was with their time and willingness to answer questions. Worth every penny — it was absolutely a highlight of our trip.

If you are visiting Kyoto, please consider booking this intimate experience to meet the Maiko and Geiko through Japan Wonder Travel. It was a unique and deeply educational look into their lives. The tour started with a walk through the surrounding areas of Kyoto where parts of Memoirs of a Geisha were filmed. Walking the paths felt like stepping back into ancient times. Our guide, Mica, was fantastic—she patiently explained the history and unique culture of the Maiko and Geiko. It was a scorching hot summer day, but fortunately, it wasn't crowded, so we could really enjoy the atmosphere. The highlight was definitely meeting the "mother" of the Geiko house. She was incredibly graceful, and we learned so much. You normally cannot get access to an experience like this without a personal connection, so booking through Japan Wonder Travel is highly recommended. It was one of my favorite tours in Japan! Just a quick reminder to fellow travelers to always respect their privacy and ask before posting any photos online.

It was a wonderful experience learning about Japanese culture. I was deeply moved watching the 400-year-old traditional dance performed right in front of me. The dancer and musicians were fantastic. Takuma did an amazing job explaining the art of geiko and the history of the flower district. Even though the art of geiko is quite complex to understand, Takuma offered clear and easy-to-follow explanations. I highly recommend this tour. You truly need to see and experience it for yourself. We were able to take photos with the geiko, and she was absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Takuma. You made my trip to Kyoto incredibly special.

It is a very private, delicate event and above all she explains to you in detail what a Maiko really is. You shouldn't miss it if the world of Japan interests you. The culture and the explanation by a retired Geiko and the young Maiko make you truly understand this activity. Also the place is beautiful.
We are profoundly grateful for your thoughtful review. It brings us immense satisfaction to learn that you found the gathering to be an exclusive and refined experience, offering comprehensive insights into the authentic world of Maiko. We are particularly pleased that the shared wisdom of the seasoned Geiko and the fresh perspective of the young Maiko enabled you to gain a profound understanding of this cherished Japanese tradition. We also appreciate you noting the splendid aesthetics of the venue, as we strive to create an atmosphere that complements the beauty of the performance. It means a great deal to us that you took the time to share your impressions. We sincerely hope to have the privilege of welcoming you back to Japan on a future occasion.
It is really interesting and awesome experience to witness the performance of Maiko and to walk around Gion street. It is also safe and you will absolutely enjoy the tour.
Thank you for your kind review! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed walking through Gion and experiencing a maiko performance. We're also glad you felt comfortable and safe throughout the tour. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you again on your next visit to Japan!
I had such a wonderful time on this tour! It was a truly memorable experience, and I especially enjoyed two things. First, our tour guide was fantastic. They were warm, enthusiastic, and explained everything so clearly that it was easy to follow and enjoyable from beginning to end. Their storytelling really brought the experience to life. Second, I was deeply impressed by the story of what it takes to become a Maiko. I hadn’t realized how much dedication, discipline, and hard work are required. Learning about the training before meeting Hidetowa-san made her performance even more meaningful. Watching Hidetowa-san perform after hearing her journey gave me a much deeper appreciation of her skills and commitment. It wasn’t just a beautiful performance—it was inspiring to see the years of effort and passion behind it. Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible. I came away with a much greater appreciation for this beautiful part of Japanese culture, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and heartfelt review! We're very happy to hear that the stories behind the traditions, along with Hidetowa-san's performance, made the experience so meaningful for you. Your kind words about our guide mean a great deal. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again for another tour in Japan!
