We totally enjoyed our tour. We had a small group of just 2 couples. Our driver/tourguide Ian dressed in highland fashion was incredibly knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed a visit to a small farm where there were highland cows and llamas. We visited the ruins of a castle that was raided by vikings and the jacobites. To avoid the jacobites from claiming the castle the owners blew it up and left nothing for the raiders. The castle sits on the shores of Loch Ness where we were able to take a boat ride on the Loch. No Nessy though. We had time for some lunch and shopping and the back to the ship. I highly recommend the small group tour.
Steven was an excellent tour guide—very informative, personable, and kept us laughing throughout the entire day! He made the excursion both interesting and fun. Kyle was also a great bus driver and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the trip. The bus itself was exceptionally clean, spotless, and very well maintained. It honestly looked and smelled brand new! To top it all off, Steven’s wife even brought us delicious treats, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. You could really tell how much care they put into making sure everyone had a wonderful experience. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Inverness and Loch Ness!
Fantastic day trip. Ian and Iver were super guides, knowledgeable, punctual and very accommodating. We were a small group of 8 which made things easy to get to place to place quickly so that we could keep to a schedule. Highly recommend!
There is a stop at a farm to see Highland Cows. It is 2 old Highland cows, 4 lamas and some sheep. The Castle is fascinating, the boat ride is worth it. I was not aware there was a whiskey tasting, which was the driver pulling a basket of whiskey bottles from the bus. Not impressed with the guide.
It was a very nice tour, and we felt very well accompanied and entertained by Ian and learned a lot about the area. On the excursion, nature as well as culture and history had their place, and we cannot even say which of them impressed us more.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful tour with Ian and felt well looked after and entertained throughout the day. Ian will be so pleased to know that you enjoyed his knowledge of the area and the way he brought the scenery, culture and history to life. It sounds like you had a fantastic day, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. Julia and Ian
We had a great time on this day trip! Steve was a fun, informative, and friendly guide and Josh was a wonderful driver! We enjoyed each stop from the unexpected visit with hairy cows (loved them) to the cruise on the famous Loch Ness. Steve made each part fun and memorable. There was just enough history and storytelling to make it all relevant without letting it become a bore. This was the perfect way to spend a day in the highlands!
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We are delighted you had such a great day exploring the Highlands with Steve and Josh. It sounds like the unexpected visit with the hairy coos was a real highlight, they are always hard to resist! We will make sure Steve and Josh both see your kind words. Thank you for choosing to spend your day in the Highlands with us, and we hope we can welcome you back to Scotland again one day.
We were greeted by Ian in a kilt, and he showed us the landscape and a farm in German, and explained the secrets of Loch Ness to us in detail, finishing with the city of Inverness. An all-around wonderful excursion to all the sights with a great guide.
Julia and Ian
This experience wasn't what we were hoping for. All places we went were slammed with tour buses. We loved each place but learned very little on the tour as there were too many people and due to crowds we had to be separated from the group. Based upon reviews I read, I did not expect to be in a full coach bus of people with little time to talk to the leader. Luckily my family had done research prior to visiting and knew most of the history we missed out on hearing. I would not recommend this as the price point and experience are not aligned.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations. Although Scotland’s most popular attractions can become extremely crowded, particularly during peak season and on busy cruise days, we appreciate that this affected both the quality of the commentary and your overall enjoyment of the tour. We are pleased that you enjoyed the places visited. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We are sorry that on this occasion we did not deliver the experience you had hoped for.
Our tour got shortened by an hour because of customs on the ship (totally not our guide’s fault). We knew our time at the castle would be shortened because we had a specific time we needed to be on the boat for the Loch Ness. Instead of giving us a little bit more time at the castle to explore and take pictures he had us go down and listen to a man talk about weapons, which was not interesting at all. I thought the boat ride would bring us back to the castle so I could get more pictures, but it did not. Our guide was very knowledgeable and loved his country, but it was a little tiring hearing about his dislike of the English government, and he also made a dig on American politics. When we were brought into town, we drove by restaurants that he recommended and then we did a tour of the homes nearby, which was OK, but then he made our poor bus driver navigate the small streets so he could show us the hospital he had his knee replacement surgery and a college. It may have been interesting if they were historic, but they were not, so by the time we got parked in time to explore downtown we were very limited and only had time to eat lunch and walk around for a few minutes. It would’ve been nice to have a little more time to visit the shops.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that parts of the tour did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, delays caused by customs on the ship shortened the tour by approximately one hour. Although this was outside the control of both our guide and driver, the team still had to ensure that all the main elements of the advertised itinerary were completed, including the scheduled Loch Ness cruise. The weapons presentation at the castle is part of the visitor experience and has been enjoyed by many guests, although we appreciate that it will not appeal to everyone. We also understand your disappointment at not having more time to explore the castle and take photographs. Our guides often include local information about Inverness, including the university, hospital and surrounding neighbourhoods, as many visitors enjoy learning about everyday life in the Highlands as well as its history. Other guests on the same tour commented very positively on the guide and particularly enjoyed his local knowledge. However, we appreciate that you would have preferred more free time in the city centre for shopping and sightseeing. We are also concerned by your comments regarding political opinions. While guides may provide historical and cultural context, personal political views should not distract from the guest experience. We will address this directly with the guide. Thank you again for your honest feedback. It helps us review how we manage itineraries when unexpected port delays significantly reduce the available touring time.
Our guide was amazing… considerate, Flexible and knowledgeable. It doesn’t get better than that ! I was so fortunate
