Ashley was just perfect! Energetic, Informative and Fun. She took us many sites during the afternoon, but was thoughtful of our pace. We went to the best locations in Hong Kong, her favorite spots and customized the afternoon with visits to places based on our interests.
If there were a 10 star option for 'Exceptional', Ashley would deserve it! We've done a lot of tours across the world, and over the years, and without a doubt Ashley tops the list as our favorite guide. We were lucky to be able to hire her for 3 straight days...we wish we had more!!! As a former food and culture journalist she brings a deep knowledge and perspective to her native Hong Kong. She walked us through HK's concrete jungle into some of it's most tranquil and alluring spaces, all the while weaving tales of history of her rich heritage. We visited the Garden of the Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of the Stars and the old Clock Tower. We then took the Star Ferry across the Victoria Harbour to HK Island to traverse the maze-like walkway system that connects the high rise buildings - a great way to spend a rainy tour day. As the weather cleared we took in the HSBC Building to learn of the city's deep respect for the Feng Shui architectural design. Touring Kowloon and the New Territories would have been daunting if not for Ashley's expert guidance to the Nunnery, Nan Lian Garden and many places in between. Visiting a Wet market, Street Market, Ladies Market and Fish Market provided the background for Ashley's astute commentary on Chinese/ HongKong rich history, cultural development and culinary delights. A private driving tour of Lantau Island, The Big Buddha and the Tai O fisherman village is a must-see on any Hong Kong tour ! Ashley's impressive English fluency, her historical and pop culture knowledge, her skillful story-telling and her foodie perspective made for the most perfect three day visit to Hong Kong. Thank you, Ashley for making it so fun, informative, ....we will never forget our time with you in HK !!!
Ashley is a terrific guide. She is warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. She encouraged us to take the subway, which turned out to be a highlight of our trip to Hong Kong. Another highlight was the wet market in Aberdeen, where we picked out a grouper for lunch. We took it to a restaurant where it was steamed in soy sauce, garlic and scallions. It was our best meal in Hong Kong! The day ended with a ride on the famous Star Ferry. Thank you, Ashley, for a wonderful, memorable day!
We were so very lucky to have Ashley Mak as our tour guide on our day walking tour of Hong Kong. Her knowledge of Hong Kong, the history and culture and just everything was so phenomenal. We felt like we were friends immediately. We can’t recommend her enough. In retrospect we would have loved an extra day to explore more. Thank you Ashley for a wonderful day.
Ashley was the most amazing guide ever! From her pre-trip communication to her post-trip follow-up we loved every minute we spent with her. We saw and learned so much about Hong Kong and traveled by ding-ding, metro, bus and ferries. She is quite the foodie and took us to a delicious local (non-tourist) Dim-Sum restaurant as well as helping us make reservations for dinners on our own. We had so much fun with Ashley that it was very hard to say goodbye at the end of our time together!
I was a little “nervous” about finding a tour guide since not a referral but hit the jackpot with Ashley…the personalized tour Ashley set up was PERFECT. A mixture of walking, train, tram and ferry we saw many highlights of Hong Kong that we otherwise couldn’t have done without her. Ashley was very professional, very personable, very friendly and a pleasure to be a round. Made our stop on Hong Kong that much better. Highly recommmend her. Thanks Ashley!
Of all of the day tours that we have taken across Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, Ashley is the most knowledgeable guide we have ever had the pleasure to tour with. A++ for English fluency, local knowledge, story telling, and cultural/historical/culinary breadth and depth. We asked a million questions about the local culture and she patiently answered each one. Especially recommended for Overseas Chinese touring Hong Kong. She is also a pleasure to be with: friendly, perceptive to the needs, moods and interests of the tour group. She was very considerate and kind to my 78 year mother and was able to accommodate her mobility issues seamlessly. She was very adept at gaging our interests and creating an on the spot itinerary tailored to our interests. We were able to tour Aberdeen Harbor, Hung Shing Temple on Ap Lei Chau, have a fresh seafood lunch with shrimps and fish we purchased at the market and had cooked in a local restaurant, visit the Overseas Chinese Exhibit at the Hong Kong Museum of History and sample some other local treats. Many other sites were pointed out and explained along the way. She also sent us a comprehensive list of all of the sites we visited and recommendations for the rest of our trip in a timely manner so that we were able to take advantage during the remainder of our trip. She books out several months in advance so if you have multiple days, I recommend booking multiple tours. We only booked one day and regretted not booking more. If you have the budget to book one of her custom tours, would recommend without hesitation! Would book again.
We had Ashley as our private guide and she was excellent. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. She gave us many tips and recommendations during our stay in Hong Kong. We went for dim sum and we let her order everything on our behalf and it was all excellent. She also arranged a car to take us from our hotel to the cruise port. If you’re going to do this tour, I’d recommend doing it your first full day in Hong Kong so that you can take the tips and recommendations she provides during your stay.
Ashley was perhaps the best tour guide we have ever had in any country. She was extremely knowledgeable, well prepared and also flexible to an accommodate our interests and pace. She had many “hidden gems” as well as the must see sites and made us feel safe and well taken care of.
We did the Tram and Treats tour with Ashley in 31 Dec 2025 and it was an absolute highlight. Ashley is incredibly knowledgeable about all things Hong Kong from its history, culture, sightseeing and all the best spots to eat like a local. She is a fountain of knowledge and provided us with travel information, tips and tricks, and recommendations both before and after our scheduled tour to make the most of our time in Hong Kong, which was so helpful! The tour felt like hanging out with a friend, personalised to cover our family's interests, especially all the fab food spots!! Highly recommend a tour with Ashley. Book a tour for the start of your trip, so Ashley's tips and recommendations can set you up for the rest of your stay!
