Le château, avec son architecture saisissante et son importance historique, témoigne du riche patrimoine du Japon. Sa présence imposante au milieu du paysage urbain rappelle la résilience et l'histoire, offrant une vue éphémère mais percutante du patrimoine culturel d'Hiroshima. Lorsque le Japon a adhéré à la Convention du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en 1992, des citoyens, y compris des survivants de la bombe atomique, ont commencé à élever la voix pour faire du Dôme de la bombe atomique un site du patrimoine mondial. Une campagne nationale de collecte de signatures menée par les citoyens d'Hiroshima a été un succès et la ville a été désignée site historique national en juin 1995 et inscrite sur la liste des sites du patrimoine mondial en 1996 comme symbole appelant à l'abolition des armes nucléaires et pour la paix mondiale.
Le 6 août 1949, avec la promulgation de la loi sur la construction de la ville commémorative de la paix d'Hiroshima, il fut décidé que l'ensemble du district de Nakajima serait consacré à des « installations commémoratives de la paix », et ce fut le début de ce qui est aujourd'hui le parc commémoratif de la paix. Le parc couvre environ 122 100 mètres carrés. Il a été conçu par Kenzo Tange, professeur à l'Université de Tokyo, et trois autres personnes, dont la proposition a été sélectionnée dans le cadre d'un concours de design qui a attiré 145 propositions. À l'extrémité sud du parc se trouve une rangée de trois bâtiments : le bâtiment Est, le bâtiment principal du Musée Mémorial de la Paix et le Centre international de conférences d'Hiroshima.

Le sanctuaire est situé dans une petite crique, tandis que la porte torii est située dans la mer intérieure de Seto. Des sentiers longent la crique et les visiteurs aiment s'y promener tout en regardant la mer. Après le coucher du soleil, le sanctuaire et la porte torii sont illuminés tous les jours jusqu'à 23h00, offrant un cadre idéal aux clients du Ryokan pour profiter d'une promenade nocturne en yukata et en sandales geta. Il n'est cependant pas possible d'entrer dans le sanctuaire après le coucher du soleil. 1 heure c'est l'heure du déjeuner. Le temps à mi-mouvement est d'environ 30 minutes.

The tour was in no way intended to take us to The Myajima island we were on the Cruise that departed at 4:30pm. She said that she was not intended to return on time. We should have been directed to another tour. Our hearts are broken! Very disappointed!

However, as noted in our itinerary, this standard tour is scheduled to conclude around 5:30 PM at Hiroshima Station. When you made your booking, you noted in the special requirements that you needed to return by 4:00 PM. Recognizing this time conflict, we sent you a message through the Viator system prior to the tour. We explicitly informed you that to meet your 4:00 PM deadline, you would need to leave the tour early after lunch and would unfortunately miss Miyajima. In that same message, we also directed you to our alternative tour specifically designed for cruise passengers. Since we did not receive a reply or a cancellation request from you, we proceeded with your booking as scheduled. We made every effort to warn you about the schedule and provide the appropriate alternative in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
Overall great experience. Koji was a very knowledgeable tour guide. More time in the peace museum would have been nice but tour covered all the sites and was efficiently managed.

Good experience overall. The length of visit was also good since it took most of the day but we still had time for some other things. Very punctual and easy to follow. Crowd size wasn’t too big; less than around 20 people but not uncomfortably small or one on one. Tour guide explained history of Hiroshima well and took us to all the main spots while giving us some free time to explore and shop as well. Used these portable speaker things so that you could hear what he was saying the whole time. Definitely enjoyed.
