Superb experience. Kudos to the guide -Bravo- for knowing how to immerse us in the Cape Verdean world through his games, his gastronomic recommendations, his introductions to Creole, to the music, to the culture, and to the history of the country. More than a guide, an entertainer. Hats off!
For those who want to visit Cape Verde, have a delicious experience, visit to Hot Bread in the City of Praia, Island of Santiago, Cape Verde
We enjoyed the tour very much, it was well organised and quite a delight. The tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, and keen on sharing the islands culture and history; whilst professional he was funny and entertaining. To compliment that the driver was very skilled and always on cue. Thanks again! 🫂 We felt taken care of.
During our stay in Praia, we chose to book the island tour with Kapverden Tours. The tour was a great way to experience this amazing island. It combined shorter photo stops with longer walks in different areas across the island. Our guide, Bravo, was amazing! He combined historical facts and information about Cabo Verde and the island with fun and interesting anecdotes. As a guide, he mastered the skill of reading and adapting to the group.
Booked 9am slot. Was messaged to be ready at 840-850 pick up site. Was picked up at 910am. Van capacity is 11 comfortably, 14 uncomfortably. I wouldn’t go if there’s more than 9 booked (reserve 2 places for driver and host) AC was on and van clean which I appreciated for the long ride. Please eat beforehand or bring snacks. Plenty of fluids. We stopped for lunch maybe around 1. There are stops along the way so you certainly can purchase some street food or run into a store to grab something. I’m from CV but I wanted to do a tour so I could get the education. It was wonderful. POX was a great driver! Which is important all the time but even more so when you are going up and down windy mountains. Bravo was our instructor, he was respectful and made the day fun. He also is a good photographer. This was a fun full day. I didn’t have to think about what to spend my day doing. Put the day in there hands and enjoyed it. After you eat lunch, you have an hour to enjoy the beach so be sure to bring a towel and swim swimsuit or at least a blanket so you have something to sit on or lay on while you relax. However, you can certainly just walk around the beach if you’d like to. There will be two signs that say: Tarrafal. One is actually etched into the mountain and the other one is a man-made sign that is pretty close to the beach. I’m actually surprised that they didn’t drive us to that sign so that we could take pictures. But it is walkable you can just walk there and get some great pictures. My absolute favorite part of this tour was the farm that we stopped at. It was owned by a gentleman named Thomas. His farm has banana trees, coconut and papaya. He was nice enough to let us try some papaya for free and it was so good. I really loved the banana plantation. It was my favorite part.
The best excursion to discover the island of Santiago! A huge thank you to Bravo and Poks, who were incredible guides. Between the beautiful landscapes, the numerous photo stops, the fascinating explanations about the history of Cape Verde, and the little lessons in Cape Verdean Creole, this day far exceeded my expectations. Thanks to them, I better understood the local culture, which helped me a lot for the rest of my trip. Special mention for the stop at Tarrafal and the Farrol restaurant: the welcome was warm, the view magnificent, and the food excellent. A true moment of relaxation in a beautiful setting. If you have the chance, ask for Bravo and Poks as guides: they are truly the best at making the journey lively and making this excursion unforgettable! I recommend this excursion without hesitation!
Very good overview of the island of Santiago Guide listening, beyond the magnificent landscapes, he took the time to introduce us to Cape Verdean culture!
We were in mid-March individually for a week on Santiago and booked some tours with Cape Verde tours. We only had positive experiences with the organizer. On-time hotel pick-up and reliable, competent execution of the tour. Our guide named Gualter, good subject / general knowledge in very good English could give us a good insight into the life of the local population. The full-day tour along winding but good roads along the west coast to Taraffal provides countless insights into the bizarre, rugged mountain landscape. The east coast takes more time due to the poor, bumpy and under development road. A vehicle with good suspension is advisable, we had a well-equipped minibus with 8 people. Interesting is the contrast of west/east coast. Gueltar was able to tell a lot about his compatriots and the harsh living conditions, since he himself comes from one of the villages. The island tour is highly recommended to get an authentic impression of the east coast, which is not yet characterized by tourism. We wish the Gualter guide continued success with Cape Verde tours.
Very nice discovery of Santiago Island in one day for a very decent price The Bravo guide aka "José" allowed us to see all aspects of the island and its history The little extra was the atmosphere with the discovery of the different styles of Cape Verde music during the trip and the discovery of some Creole expressions To summarize, very nice day in good company
Trip was booked in French but commentary was only in English & Spanish. The guide very difficult to hear as two guides were speaking in different languages simultaneously. Commentary was dumbed-down and not appropriate for the passengers. However I do recommend an island tour soon upon arrival as it helps to see what the rest of the island has to offer.
