Don't wear sneakers you remotely care about. You might not see anything.

Let's start with the positives. I believe the guides were ok and did the best they could with the setup they were given. Also the company sent reminder texts messages which were somewhat detailed. The needs improvement. Look -- if you aren't going to see light in the water, say that. be super clear that chances are NOT GOOD, and you probably will NOT SEE LIGHTS. Also be very clear about what footwear IS NOT good for this trip. Walking through 50 meters of waste deep dark murky water should be VERY CLEAR upfront.

kayaking while blind folded!

This excursion was the fight of my life. Because it was at night, you literally couldn't see more than several feet in front of you down a mangrove covered stream (not that wide either). The small river had hundreds of kayaks on it that we were battling against the entire trip. Guides were ineffective and were yelling conflicting instructions the entire time. Other paddlers were whacking me in the dark with their paddles. It was quite chaotic!

We sincerely appreciate your honest feedback and are very sorry that your bio bay night kayaking tour did not meet expectations. Paddling through a narrow mangrove channel in crowded waterways requires strong coordination, especially during challenging weather conditions and evenings with low bioluminescence. We understand how disappointing that combination can feel. Hearing that the guide communication added to the confusion is concerning, and we want you to know we will be sharing your comments with our tour partner so the situation can be reviewed and addressed appropriately. Your safety and experience matter to us. If you are open to giving us another opportunity in the future, we hope you will reach out and check out some of our other adventures with Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico when you are ready.

Not exactly what we expected, dark, and WET

We signed up for this unique experience as it seemed like a must do when coming to Puerto Rico since it is home to 3/5 of the bio bays in the world. We definitely don't regret booking it, but wouldn't necessarily do it again as it wasn't quite what we were expecting. First of all, expect to get WET - like waist deep wet wading into the water to get into your kayak and then wet from splashes from paddling +/- rain. Second, don't plan to bring anything (bags or other belongings) as they're not allowed, just a phone in a water protected case. Third, the 1.5mile paddle through the Mongrove forest to the lagoon is HARD. The current is very fast and there are many tour groups so there is lots of crashing into each other and the trees involved. The guides do their best to help, but it's hard, and it's also pitch black. Once you get out to the lagoon, you can expect to stick your hands in the water and splash around to see the sparkling bioluminescence, but that's about it. We went a day or two after the new moon so it was dark so that wasn't necessarily affecting things. The tarp used to put over our heads to make it even darker did help, but it still wasn't as impressive (bright and blue and shiny) as some pictures make it seem. Still cool, but definitely not quite what we were expecting. The paddle back through the mangroves to the starting point was tricky too because you had to paddle harder as you were going against the current so be prepared and capable of actually kayaking - not sure it would be a good experience for your first time ever kayaking. Overall, it was stressful and less impressive than we were expecting.

We appreciate your honest review and are sorry the Bio Bay kayaking tour did not meet your expectations. At the time of your visit, we were experiencing stronger than normal currents, which made the mangrove paddle more physically demanding than usual. In addition, recent weather conditions contributed to lower than normal bioluminescence in the lagoon. While these natural elements are outside of our control, we understand how they can affect the overall experience, especially in pitch black conditions and with a waist-deep water entry. Your feedback is important to us, and we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you further. If you are willing, we would truly appreciate another chance to create a more enjoyable outing with Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico.

Do not book through trip advisor

I blame trip advisor for not vetting this company. We arrived, no one at the spot had any idea what we were talking about and there was no valuable information in any of the emails or invoices. We don’t speak fluent Spanish. Luckily some other tour company launching from the same spot let us tag along. If you want to book with this company, you should NOT book through trip advisor.

Réponse de l'opérateur

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear there was confusion at the launch area, and we would appreciate the opportunity to review this with you directly. We do want to clarify that the meeting location, arrival time, tour instructions, and check in details are provided in the confirmation emails. A same day text message was also sent with where to go and who to meet. Since you arrived at the correct launch area at the correct time, it appears those location details were received and followed. We also did not receive any call, message, or email from you before or during the tour asking for assistance, so we were not aware there was an issue in the moment. Because several tour companies launch from the same area, guests must check in with the correct provider listed in their booking details. Other operators are not expected to add guests from a different company for free to tag along, so we would like to better understand what happened at the site. Please contact us directly at 787-209-2127 so we can review your booking, the emails, the same day text, and the details of your experience. We take guest concerns seriously and would like the chance to discuss this with you.

Silence is bliss

I’ve never left a review in my life but felt that this experience deserved a response. My family and I drove over 1 hour from Guynabo to Fajardo where the tour was located. The company we chose seemed a bit less organized than the others available. (A warning to book early with higher rated companies). Everything about the experience could have been just fine except for the guides that lead our group were hollering inside jokes with each other the whole time and forgot to give the customer the best experience of silence. The bio-luminescence was not as bright as one would expect but still cool to see. Silence from our leaders would have built mystic and wonder but their immaturity clouded the air. The giant 25x50’ tarp they use to cover the entire group with was weird and I thought that there must be a better way to achieve a darker setting to better see the plankton light up. Overall the experience of kayaking at night through a lush forest-covered channel was worth the trip. Just wish our guides were more professional and mature.

Hi Ricardo, we genuinely appreciate you sharing such thoughtful feedback. Driving over an hour to join our bioluminescent kayak tour is not something we take lightly, we are truly sorry that parts of the experience did not meet expectations. Your feedback regarding guide professionalism concerns and the lack of an immersive silent experience is taken seriously and will be addressed. The magic of the nighttime mangrove channel truly shines when guests can soak in the stillness, and your comments about guide professionalism concerns have been shared internally. Our group tarp viewing setup is intended to create a darker environment to better see the glow, though we understand it can feel unusual. We are grateful you still found value in the setting itself and would welcome the chance to deliver a more refined experience with Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico.

Staff is amazing. Thx for all the help

Staff was great. Went above and beyond. But we ended up having to be towed going in against the current which was hard and towed leaving which was with the current. We just didn't have our communication down or something. On the way out is like a two way street. We ended up in the other lane before getting towed. We went at the 17:45 slot. It was dark by the time we actually got started. It's cool once you get out into the open they tether you together, put a large tarp over the group so you can see the bio illuminesence. You can't take water bottles and such in with you and fast paced so not much time to take any pics. It was a great but hard time personally would not do good again just because of our lack of rowing skills/communication. Again staff went above and beyond. Parking wasn't bad for the 17:45 slot but when we got back parking was for sure pretty full. Mofongo.

Réponse de l'opérateur

Thank you for highlighting our team, they will love hearing that they went above and beyond. The bioluminescent kayak tour is unforgettable, but there is no doubt it can feel intense if rowing communication is not fully in sync, especially moving through that two way channel. We are glad our guides were able to assist and that you still enjoyed the guided group tethering moment when the bio illumination really shines. It is definitely a hands on adventure. We understand it can be physically demanding, and we respect your honesty about that. If you are ever looking for a different style of adventure, reach out and explore more experiences with Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico! Mofongo!

Disappointing

It was disappointing that we couldn’t see the Bioluminescence because of the moonlight. They had us put a tarp over the kayak to make the adjacent water darker, which allowed a bit of bioluminescence to be seen, but overall the experience was disappointing.

Réponse de l'opérateur

Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re sorry that the moonlight conditions affected your Bio Bay adventure experience. Bioluminescence can vary greatly depending on natural conditions, and although the tarp technique allowed for some visibility, we understand how limited bioluminescence can impact the overall experience. Our team always strives to provide a magical kayaking at night adventure, and we regret that this trip didn’t meet your expectations. Your perspective helps us continue improving and setting clearer expectations for future guests. If you’re open to giving us another opportunity, we’d love to create a more memorable adventure for you with Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico.

Bumper Boats & Idiots

The mangrove and bio bay components were very cool and I do feel like once in a lifetime. But the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The times listed aren’t accurate. It’s 100s of people playing bumper boats on a tiny canal. This include beginner kayakers who disrupt the whole trip flow. Lastly you could tell our tour guides did not care at all. It was so obvious they did not want to be there at all. They also did not know what they were doing and one tour guide shoved our kayak into the trees since he was out of control.

Réponse de l'opérateur

Hi Samantha! Thank you for the honest feedback. We’re glad the mangrove paddle and bio bay still felt cool and once in a lifetime, even though the overall experience missed the mark for you. Spring break is the busiest time of year for this experience, and that can definitely mean a more overcrowded canal and more beginner kayakers affecting the flow than usual. We also hear your concerns about the guide issues and how that shaped the night and will work to address those. When you’re ready, we’d love for you to reach out and check out some of the other adventures offered by Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico.

A MUST and UNIQUE Experience!

What a great experience! We are vacationing in Puerto Rico with our two teenage kids (18 and 16) and they loved it as well. Our guide, Felix, was energetic, informative and entertaining. We went on the 7:30 trip. I will say that I received a couple of different times to check in via email, text, etc. Pay attention to the text that you receive the day before to confirm or call them to clarify. We didn’t have to check in until 7:45 and didn’t leave until 8:15. We were back at around 9:30/10 PM. The process was far less chaotic than I thought it would be given there are about 7 companies all doing the same thing at pretty much the same time. You get into your kayak and go through a channel - it is DARK! So, a bit scary at times only because you can’t see a thing, but part of me felt better that way - I’m not sure I wanted to see what was in there. You arrive at a large lagoon after about 1.5 miles of kayaking. It wasn’t ideal conditions for us to see the bioluminescent plankton, but not to worry! They brought a large tarp so that we could all put it over us, which made the viewing much better. You will get wet just from paddling and water getting into the kayak, so bring a dry change of clothes for the way home. Also, bring water shoes if you have them, as you have to walk in the water to get to your kayak (not deep or far, but water shoes would be ideal). A definite must do while in Puerto Rico!

Hi Whitney! What a fantastic review, thank you. It means a lot to hear that your Bio Bay Kayak tour became such a standout part of your Puerto Rico vacation, especially with your whole family along for the ride. Felix will love the shoutout, and your description of the nighttime kayaking journey through that dark channel was spot on, a little thrilling, a little mysterious, and all part of the adventure. We appreciate you mentioning the timing updates and practical preparation tips as well, because details like water shoes, dry clothes, and knowing what to expect really do help guests enjoy the bioluminescent lagoon even more. When you’re ready to make more Puerto Rico memories, reach out to Paradise Seekers Puerto Rico and check out some of our other tours and adventures waiting for you.
