We had a very warm welcome at the Ulu kids club. Our kids joined the afternoon activities and cooking classes. The two brothers returned very happy. Glad we booked . Thank you so much for everything Jarno - Shana - Madé and Maehle

A tea ceremony that felt genuinely meaningful

Before coming to Kyoto as a Solo Traveler from the UK, I had read a lot about the Japanese tea ceremony and wanted to experience something authentic rather than a watered-down tourist version, and ULU gave me exactly what I was hoping for. The host explained the history, the meaning behind each movement, and the beautiful idea of *ichigo ichie* — one time, one meeting. I also had the chance to whisk my own matcha, and she gently corrected my posture in a way that felt kind and encouraging, never awkward. The room itself was quiet, simple, and beautiful, which made the whole experience feel calm and intimate. The 90 minutes flew by. It was genuinely one of the most memorable experiences of my entire Japan trip.

Real cultural experience

Leaving your kid somewhere new in a foreign country is always a bit of a leap. ULU Village made it feel easy. The space is secure, the staff-to-child ratio is great, and you can just tell everyone there genuinely loves working with kids. Our 7-year-old did calligraphy, helped prepare a meal, and joined a traditional dance. He came home with souvenirs he made himself, and they're now sitting proudly on his bookshelf back in Toronto. If you're a parent in Kyoto needing a few hours to yourself — or you just want your kids to have a real cultural experience — just book it.

A great place for your kids while you get to know Kyoto

It was a very nice place all of us enjoyed it and my nephew stayed here for 2 days, he interacted with local kids, and had the chance to practice English and learn a bit of Japanese. It was a clean place, they offered snacks and the staff was very friendly and supportive. It was just the right amount of kids and worth the time and price we decided to be here.

Discovering the Real Kyoto Through a Child's Eyes

My children were getting a little tired of visiting shrine after shrine and temple after temple in Kyoto, so I came across this place through my search. All the staff were cheerful, kind, and genuinely caring. They engaged with my children at a relaxed, unhurried pace, which made me feel I could really trust them. Being able to play alongside local Kyoto children was a truly invaluable experience and created memories we will treasure forever. We got to make food together, try a matcha experience, practice calligraphy, and enjoy a festival experience. The children also painted cherry blossoms — they all looked like they were having the best time. If we ever visit Kyoto again, we will definitely come back.
