Nice tour from the port of Invergordon through the Highlands. Cawdor Castle has a very beautiful garden and is nice to look at from the outside. I found the interior tour unnecessary, as there are really much more beautiful castles. The Clava Cairns are interesting; however, 15 minutes is enough to thoroughly look at and read everything. The Culloden battlefield is very unremarkable; you really have to be deeply interested in the topic to want to stay there for 70 minutes. That was drawn out a lot. The stop at Loch Ness was nice; the scenery is great. Unfortunately, we only drove through Inverness to return to the ship. I would have liked to stay there longer. I find the argument that the ship does not have a long docking time weak. When we arrived at the port, we still had 1.5 hours until everyone had to be on board. So, if one had not spent so long at a battlefield where only red and blue flags are visible, the time would definitely have been sufficient. All in all, I find the trip for 6.5 hours with 2 people for 215 euros too expensive.
I had 10 hours in Inverness and did the all-day Highland Highlights tour with WOW Scotland. It was one of the best parts of my trip. We visited Cawdor Castle, Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and the Loch Ness. Colin was our guide and he was great. Knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and a great story teller. He gave a lot of tips and local insight along the way. We saw "hairy coos", sheep, and Clydesdales. The scenery was breathtaking and we were fortunate enough to have wonderful weather that day. The only criticism I would have is actually a positive. We ended up not having much time at Loch Ness. Several cruise passengers were running late getting off the ship. Gordon (I think that is his name) held the bus to ensure everyone made the trip. That is great customer service! While we missed some time, it was still enough to see the lake and look around. I would recommend WOW Scotland for anyone looking for a well-run, easy way to experience the Highlands. It was a fantastic day!
We can highly recommend this tour. Jamie, our guide, was very friendly and shared lots of insider information with us. We would book this tour with WOW Tours again anytime.
Ivergordom highlights Tour was about 6.5 hrs. Some outdoor walking involved at the castle on flat surface. Inside of Castle there are some circular steps to navigate. Enjoyed walking in the gardens and the Cafe at the museum. Colin was an excellent guide and very engaging. Lots of good information about the history especially the Jacobites.
Great combination of locations. Colin was great guide. Company monitored our cruise delayed arrival and sent message assuring us they would be waiting and adjusted the tour order so we saw all as advertised Great tour!!
Excellent shore excursion. Colin was the best driver / guide / tourism ambassador ever. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed a wonderful tour through the Highlands: a passionate guide who shared his homeland with us, providing plenty of information, a good selection of sights with ample time and no rush, and a small, pleasant group. This provider comes highly recommended. If we travel to Scotland again, we will definitely take another tour with WOW.
Thanks so much for the excellent review. Definitely do get in touch if you are in Scotland again as we'd love to show you more of our beautiful country.
Colin was a great driver - fun and funny but knowledgeable. The tour covered quite a bit of ground but we didnt feel rushed. A great day.
WOW Scotland was so visible when we left the ship, and the guides made sure that we found the appropriate mini coach. We were so fortunate to have Murdoch as our guide/driver, aka Mr Fantastic or was it Fabulous? He was great - knowledgeable, engaging, humorous, and concerned for our comfort and safety. We loved that the guides were dressed in kilts and Murdoch explained his historic kilt. My husband can trace his roots to the Battle of Culloden and Murdoch was so knowledgeable and informative about the battle and its impact.
Thank you for such a lovely review! We're glad our guides were easy to spot after disembarking from your ship — the kilts do help! All of our guides wear traditional kilts, and there's nothing quite like hearing the stories of Scotland from a guide dressed in traditional Scottish tartan. Culloden Battlefield is one of the most poignant stops on the tour and, for guests with a personal connection, it can be particularly moving. We're so glad Murdoch was able to bring that history to life in a meaningful way.
Book the tour!! By far, WOW Scotland in Inverness was our favorite day on our trip. Murdoch was our tour guide for the day and he was phenomenal! He is a master at storytelling and kept us engaged through the whole trip. He is a treasure. My parents used WOW Scotland when they were in Inverness 9 years ago and we decided to use them this year as well. Easy pick up at the port, and dropped up within a comfortable amount of time prior to sailing. The van is comfortable, and can get into smaller areas so you see more than the larger tour busses. Don't hesitate - book with them.
The fact that your parents chose WOW Scotland nine years ago and you followed in their footsteps really does mean a lot to us. Our smaller vehicles allow us to venture into places larger coaches simply can't reach, and getting guests back to the ship comfortably and on time is something we take very seriously. In 13 years of running shore tours, we have never been late back. Thank you for such a wonderful review!
