Nous commencerons notre journée depuis le monastère de la forêt de Vessagiriya, qui est l'une des deux plus anciennes habitations vivantes des moines bouddhistes de l'île.

Sri Maha Boodhi Temple

L'arbre Sri Maha Bodhi ou l'arbre sacré Bodhi (un figuier ou arbre pipal scientifiquement connu sous le nom de Ficus Religiosa) est considéré comme le premier des huit lieux sacrés d'Anuradhapura. Il s'agit de la branche droite de l'arbre Sri Maha Bodhi à Bodh Gaya en Inde sous laquelle le Siddhartha ascétique a atteint l'illumination, et a été envoyé par l'empereur Ashoka par l'intermédiaire de sa fille bien-aimée, la religieuse bouddhiste Theri Sanghamitta, à la demande du roi cinghalais Devanampiyatissa au IIIe siècle avant notre ère. À partir de ce moment, il a été vénéré par les rois successifs, les moines, les nonnes et les bouddhistes laïcs, car il est une connexion vivante avec le Bouddha Gautama. Au nord ou l'arbre sacré de Bodhi, nous pouvons assister à une énorme collection de piliers de granit debout qui a été identifié comme le bâtiment délabré de l'ancien palais d'airain qui était autrefois le centre administratif de l'ancien complexe du monastère Maha Vihara construit sous la direction du grand roi Gamini Abhaya au IIe siècle avant notre ère, un petit-fils du roi Devanampiyatissa. C'était un bâtiment de neuf étages avec 1000 chambres différentes. Le nom, Brazen Palce provient du fait que son toit était en chaume avec des tuiles de cuivre.
Ruwanweli Maha Seya

Ruwanveliseya stupa également connu sous le nom de Ratnamali ou le Mahathupa (Th Great Stupa) a été construit sous la direction du Grand Genre Gamini Abhaya au IIe siècle av. Les chroniques décrivent fantastiquement la cérémonie d'inauguration de ce Stupa comme une grande fête qui s'est tenue à Anuradhapura avec la participation d'invités même d'autres pays en tant que diplomates. Cependant, il a été détruit lors de l'invasion Chola par 10ème siècle AC et a été restauré le stupa à sa gloire originale au 12ème siècle AC par le roi Parakkramabahu le plus grand.

Là-bas, nous pouvons discuter de son fonctionnement et de la façon dont les moines malades de l'Université Abhayagiriya guérissent leurs décès cutanés.
Main Refectory Of Abayagiri Monastery

Le moine chinois Fa-hsien qui étudiait à l'Université Abhayagiriya au Ve siècle de notre ère a enregistré qu'il y avait 5000 moines bouddhistes dans le monastère et que cette auge particulière pouvait contenir suffisamment de riz pour un tel nombre.

Et ce chef-d’œuvre met précieusement en valeur le sens esthétique des anciens artisans et comment ils ont incroyablement mis en pratique leurs connaissances, leurs capacités, leurs talents, leurs sentiments.
Eth Pokuna

Ceci est populairement connu comme l'Eth-Pokuna pour les habitants ou l'étang des éléphants en anglais, situé au sud-ouest du Réfectoire est peut-être le plus grand étang fait par l'homme en Asie qui a été construit au IIIe siècle AC. On dit que c'est trois fois plus grand qu'une piscine olympique moderne. Le miracle ici n'est pas seulement sa taille énorme, mais les conduits souterrains qui fonctionnent toujours et ont été l'alimentation en eau de l'étang à partir des réservoirs voisins et dans le coin sud-ouest, nous pouvons noter une écluse de citerne qui suggère que l'eau a été distribuée à d'autres étangs relativement plus petits dans les environs, ce qui montre les superbes compétences en génie hydraulique des anciens Cinghalais.

Excellent historical and cultural tour
Lucky was extremely knowledgeable on the history of Sri Lanka, Buddhism, the ancient area of Anuradhapura. He learnt a lot from his ancient history and tourism degree and was able to clearly explain everything to us.
We saw some ancient caves from 3rd century BC which were less of a tourist attraction but it showed the incredible depth of history here.
It was great to hear his views on the teachings of Budda vs the Buddhist religion.
He is a brilliant guide and you can tailor the experience to hear about the sites you want to see. We hired a tuk tuk for the day but you could also use uber etc to get from place to place.
We would recommend Lucky to a friend

We had a wonderful...
We had a wonderful afternoon with Lucky. Lucky is very friendly, knowledgeable and fluent in English. He told us a lot about the history of Anuradhapura and Sri Lankan culture. He knows an incredible amount about Buddhism. We learned a lot from him!

We had a very nice morning with Lucky! Our son of 1.5 years came with us and therefore some flexibility was needed from Lucky. That was no problem at all! Lucky has a lot of knowledge and is extremely enthusiastic. I also found his realistic and down-to-earth view of Buddhism fascinating. He is absolutely recommended as a tour guide!

Such a giving experience
I had the great pleasure of having Lucky as my guide, or rather interpreter, in Anuradhapura.
Right from the start, he was extremely | welcoming, and even though I booked my tour only the day before, he arranged both the pickup from my hotel and the most wonderful tour around various sights.
Lucky's in-depth understanding and insight into
Sri Lanka's history and culture made this experience truly special - Lucky is a very unique person who genuinely embraces the Buddhist philosophy of life, and it was deeply inspiring to talk to him.
I had the absolute best day, which exceeded all my expectations. And if that wasn't enough, he later sent me a detailed description of our day and all the sites we visited.

This is not "just a guided tour", it's a knowledge transfer specialist masterclass day!
Lucky it's not "just a guide", it's a knowledge transfer specialist, an interpreter. He truly believes and loves what he does, and he is able to make you feel it through his enthusiasm and positive attitude. Communication with him through the whole process, before, after and far beyond have been absolutely fluent and in timely manner. Lucky always made us part of the decision making process for the tour taking in count all our needs. Lucky is the type of person that is always happy to help and assist you with any of your needs, any time.
Tours with him are not just a "pict & run" classic tour, they are a full Masterclass of knowledge transfer: history, architecture, science, art, religion, geo political implications on history, and so many others; our definition of tours? a time machine that brings you to imagine how things were back in the day.

Anuradhapura Guide
I’ve travelled a lot and had many guides over the years, but Lucky was truly one of the best.
Genuine, warm, insightful, incredibly knowledgeable, and deeply passionate and proud about Anuradhapura and its history.
Lucky made the entire experience feel personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. Friendly, easy to spend the day with, and absolutely worth his weight in gold. We left feeling not only informed, but genuinely connected to the place because of him. Highly, highly recommended.

Best tour!!
Lucky took us through the most interesting monastries and ruïnes and told passionatly about budhism and it’s history. Lucky had been a guide since 12 years and knows a lot about Budhism. Overall is was a very fun experience and I learned a lot from Lucky!
