Very bad experience ! spending all day at a dirty cold boat for nothing. In addition to wasting an entire day the bus on the way back to the hotel at pick up waited for an hour to leave the port. This day was horrible. Don’t book. You won’t see Mantarays
Beautiful island, lovely staff. Excellent Captains Lounge host, Merewa, and facilities on the boat. Unfortunately the tide was out a significant amount when we went to snorkelling which meant it was almost impossible to get out onto the reef, aside from this the trip was great, would recommend paying the small extra amount for the Captains Lounge and getting on first. Would recommend perhaps staying a night to ensure you get the chance to snorkel in higher tides. As we only had 2.5hrs onsite and the tide was low for 90% of this time.
It was really my fault for not reading the descriptions closely, but I wouldn't have picked this day trip if I knew it was a 3-hours boat-ride EACH WAY. Spending 6 hours on a boat, even on a nice, spacious one like the South Sea Cruise ship, was highly unpleasant. But if you are a guest staying at the Mantaray Island Resort - the place is a paradise, especially for snorkeling. I have never seen so many fish in my life. It is all so wild, free and beautiful. The only issue with the snorkeling tour is that the ship they used was a bit old and not barefoot-safe. My boyfriend badly scraped his toe when entering the boat using the ladder (the sea was very choppy at the time). The staff was clearly not equipped to handle the situation, though of course they tried and were super friendly about it (we took care of the wound after we went back to our resort 3 hours later). Overall, excellent place but definitely wouldn't do it as a day trip!
Bula Vivian, Thank you for your review. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience on the Mantaray Island Day Trip with us. We're sorry to hear that the travel time was longer than expected and understand that a 3-hour journey each way may not be ideal for everyone, especially for a day trip. Departing from Port Denarau at 8:45am, guests board our high-speed catamaran bound for the Yasawa Islands, cruising through the stunning Mamanuca and Yasawa groups while we make scheduled drop-offs and pick-ups along the way. The return journey departs Mantaray Island Resort at 2:55pm, arriving back at Port Denarau around 6:00pm. While it is a longer travel experience, many guests enjoy the scenic cruise and use the time to relax in our air-conditioned lounge and on open-air decks. We’re glad to hear that once at Mantaray Island Resort, you found it to be a paradise—particularly for snorkelling. It truly is one of Fiji’s most vibrant and untouched marine spots. We're sorry to learn about your partner’s injury when reboarding the snorkelling boat. While we always aim to provide a safe and enjoyable experience, we’ll be sharing this feedback with our operations team to ensure all snorkelling vessels used are safe and comfortable for barefoot access, especially in choppy conditions. We're also reviewing procedures to improve staff support in such situations. As part of this day trip, guests receive: Approximately 3.5 hours at Mantaray Island Resort to snorkel, swim, relax, or explore the beach. A guided snorkelling experience with all equipment provided, including buoyancy aids for less confident swimmers. A delicious lunch at the Manta Pizza Shack and welcome drink (vegetarian options available upon request during booking). Full use of resort facilities during the stay. We’re glad the team was friendly and tried their best to assist, and we hope the rest of your time in Fiji was enjoyable. If your future travels allow for a longer island stay, we highly recommend an overnight visit to truly take in the magic of the Yasawa Islands at a more relaxed pace. Vinaka vakalevu once again for your feedback—your insights help us improve the guest experience. Warm regards,
