Excursion d'une journée à Antigua

Such a special experience in Guatemala! We booked the full day tour with De La Gente, and it ended up being our favorite day of the whole trip. Our hosts, Jose and Miriam, were so welcoming and kind, and our experience was made even better by our translator, Erick. The food was incredible and it was so cool to learn the whole coffee process from seed to cup. 10000/10 would recommend.

The most amazing experience. We did the Antigua day trip consisting of the cooking class and coffee making class. The cooking class was led by the lovely Lillian and Natalie (translator) - It was very wholesome and we had the best time. We went through the ingredients, prepped them and made pepian, mole, corn tortillas, and lemonade. Lillian accommodated for my vegetarian needs perfectly. We then had the lunch and proceeded with the coffee tour led by Mercedes. It was interesting to see the coffee farm and see how they prep and process the coffee beans. We made our own coffee with the help of Lillian and it was absolutely delicious! I would recommend this to all who visit Antigua!

I've done the coffee tours several years ago, so I was excited the do the cooking class. It did not disappoint. It was fabulous. Wonderful interpreter, Jose Carlos. Wonderful husband and wife team. Clear instructions, wonderful food and we got the recipes for all we made.

We did the Antigua day tour with an English translator. This included a cooking class and a coffee farm tour. The visit was perfect. We went to the family’s house and cooked pepian on the family’s wood stove. The translator was lovely and made sure everything was properly communicated throughout. The food was lovely and it was great seeing that part of the culture. Also the coffee tour was equally great as we got to see the plants and how the coffee is cultivated in Antigua. We learned more about the non profit and the family’s story. Overall it was a very lovely personalized experience without the hassle of actually having to plan anything except just messaging De La Gente’s WhatsApp and paying. Would highly recommend!

We booked an Antigua Day Tour online which included a cooking class and coffee tour. It was one of our most memorable days in Guatamala, and we deeply appreciated learning about Guatemalan cuisine, culture and coffee farming practices. The tour included transportation, our wonderful interpreter, Luis and several hours with Senor Mercedes' and his family where we were taught how to make Pepian (which was adapted to be vegetarian, as well as a meat option), and a tour of a local coffee farm, the harvesting and preparation process. Don't forget to purchase coffee beans from the coffee farmers as these are incredible, cheaper and go directly to the farmers!! Great community led initiative, and showed us just how important equitable coffee farming and distribution is. Thank you to the De la Gente team and cooperatives!!

What a beautiful day! We started by learning to make pepian and mole with our gracious host, who welcomed us into her kitchen as if we were family. Our guide was a wonderful interpreter and made the whole experience easy to follow. We each helped prepare the pepian, then sat down to enjoy it together with chicken and vegetables. Our small group included vegan and gluten-free guests, and they were accommodated with no problem at all. Afterward, we had mole with sweet plantains for dessert—absolutely delicious. Then we set off to the coffee plantation, where we learned about the process from plant to cup. The highlight was returning to roast the beans ourselves, grind them with a traditional pestle and mortar, and then share the freshest coffee I’ve ever tasted. This experience was both authentic and heartwarming. If you’re in Antigua, I highly recommend it. It’s not just a cooking class and coffee tour—it’s a very special cultural exchange you’ll always remember.

We had such an incredible time with Alejandro! He welcomed us into his home and we got to learn all about coffee growing and processing. We then had a chance to roast and grind coffee beans to prepare coffee, that was of course delicious. Alejandro's wife cooked a delicious meal for us that was also very considerate of my food allergies (gluten & dairy). Since no one else was on the tour, we had a chance to ask Alejandro all of our questions (which were a lot!) and he answered them to patiently. Big shout out to our interpreter who was so kind to translate everything and to the transportation crew. This is such an incredible experience that we feel is an absolute must! You won't be sorry.

De La Gente is an incredible experience! Not only do you get to learn so much about the coffee-making process, but you also get to meet and learn from a Guatemalan farmer and his family. Lunch at their home was some of the best we had on our trip. The shuttle ran smoothly, and communication was immediate and helpful.

I learned about this opportunity through meeting a fellow traveler who had done a tour with this company. This was one of the highlights of my time in Guatemala. I loved getting the opportunity to visit a local coffee farm. One of my favorite parts of this was getting to connect with Humberto, the farmer we were paired with- they walked us through the coffee making process and we got to enjoy coffee and lunch with him and his family in their home. It was a really really sweet experience. Felt like a really special way to connect with and support local farmers. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to learn about coffee in Guatemala and immerse in the culture by connecting with a local family. Thank you Humberto & De La Gente!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mr. Manuel Gomez's coffee plantation and learned about the science, economics, and art of growing coffee. Mr. Gomez is an animated storyteller who vividly described the process of coffee growth and how his involvement in cooperative efforts helped generate more opportunities and better-quality coffee. We were lucky to have an amazing English/Spanish interpreter who made communication go smoothly. Later, Mr. Gomez's wife, Rosy, demonstrated how to roast and brew coffee traditionally. Rosy also prepared a yummy lunch with chicken, rice, and zucchini for us. As we dined together, we chatted about our daily routines and felt very at home and relaxed. We loved this tour and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people who are interested in knowing more about coffee in Guatemala.
