Le monument des Rangers de la Pointe du Hoc de la Seconde Guerre mondiale est situé sur une falaise à 13 km à l'ouest du cimetière américain de Normandie, qui surplombe la plage d'Omaha, en France. Il a été érigé par les Français pour honorer les éléments du deuxième bataillon américain de Rangers sous le commandement du lieutenant-colonel James E. Rudder. Lors de l'assaut américain des plages d'Omaha et de l'Utah le 6 juin 1944, ces Rangers de l'armée américaine escaladèrent les falaises de 100 pieds et s'emparèrent des pièces d'artillerie allemandes qui auraient pu tirer sur les troupes de débarquement américaines sur les plages d'Omaha et de l'Utah. Au prix de vies élevées, ils se sont défendus avec succès contre des contre-attaques allemandes déterminées.
Les plages d'Omaha étaient un véritable piège pour les troupes des 1ère et 29ème Divisions d'Infanterie. Nous ferons une ou deux escales à Omaha Beach, et comprendrons le débarquement des troupes américaines le 6 juin 1944. Selon les cas, l'arrêt peut être à Vierville S/Mer, St Laurent S/Mer ou Colleville S/Mer. Un ou deux arrêts à Omaha Beach. Veuillez indiquer dans un message si vous avez une préférence.
Le site du cimetière, à l'extrémité nord de sa route d'accès d'un demi-mile, couvre 172,5 acres et contient les tombes de plus de 9 380 de nos militaires morts, dont la plupart ont perdu la vie lors du débarquement du jour J et des opérations qui ont suivi. Sur les murs des disparus, dans un jardin semi-circulaire du côté est du mémorial, sont inscrits 1 557 noms.

Our time with Anthony was nothing short of amazing. The logistics were well handled making the pickup, drop off and traveling in between flow seamlessly. The real highlight was Anthony and his amiable nature, rooted in American and French culture, and deep interest and knowledge of history, in this case of events around and during D-Day. He allowed us time to take in the surroundings and gravity of the locations, but provided detailed insights and overviews to grow our understanding of all of WWII and D-day. For those of us who entered with a decent understanding of WWII, he was able to answer all of our questions easily and with enthusiasm that would lead to deeper insights and motivate further discussion. The part of our group who were less familiar walked away with an awareness of how much encompassed those days and WWII, but also were able to take away key overviews and as such were not overwhelmed with a flood of facts. In addition to all the knowledge of D-Day that Anthony had, he also was a fountain of information on the history and culture of the local area and France as a whole.
My wife and I learned so much not only about the events related to D-Day but also about life in Normandy and France in general. Yves is an engaging storyteller and guide. His use of a large iPad displaying maps and old photos was very helpful in explaining the strategies, motivations, and unpredictable turn of events which changed history. Thank you, Yves!
