A lot of driving and only 2 vineyards. Basic wine tasting. Good guide but not much to see in 5 hours.
The tour guide is excellent. Speaks French and English very well. We were taken to St Emilion town with is lovely. You can have some free time here too. Then off to the vineyard which is beautiful. You get a quick tour and then a tasting. However, there are only 2 very small red wines and it's done. I would have preferred more generous portions and 4 or 5 wines. And then I would have happily paid more for the trip. The tasting is too brief. Then back to the city
Highly recommend this tour! Professional bus driver was great! Both wineries served delicious wines and explained the wine-making process. At our first stop, we got to visit the vineyards and taste grapes off the vine. Great views and landscapes too!
The biggest problem is running the tour with a big group in two languages. It takes too long to explain everything, answer questions and provide instructions. The guide struggled to stop people falling asleep during the 1hr bus ride - there wasn’t anything interesting or relevant in the pre-prepared speech. The first Chateau took way too long - and we didn’t taste any wines until 2.5hrs in! The second one was with an English-speaking guide who did a great job of explaining everything succinctly but there was still insufficient time at the end to do a proper wine tasting. We only tasted 2 wines at each place. I’m sure there must be better tours out there of one of the most famous wine regions in the world but don’t waste your time on this one.
The two wineries that we went to are absolutely tiny. The people were very nice, but this was not like a large, elegant château experience. Even though all the people spoke English on the tour, the guide still spoke both English and French and it got tiresome after a while. It was really kind of a boring day. The people at the winery were nice and we did have five tastings, which was good, but it was kind of a boring disappointing day. I would look for another experience.
Check weather forecast before you book as Bordeaux gets quite a bit of rain. Bring own food and drinks. Took one and a half hours to travel to Blaye on coach which was very clean and comfortable. Guide was very informative. Spoke French and English. Visited Blaye Citadel for one hour which was very pleasant on a dry day-not too busy in September. Time at vineyard was interesting but felt a bit rushed. Wine sampled in lovely banqueting hall was of very good quality. Overall a very enjoyable experience and a nice break from the city.
Lovely relaxing afternoon taking in the countryside and learning about French winemaking. Lovely to experience.
Knowledgeable guide, toured two wineries. Small tastings at both. Really enjoyed the wine at one of them. Feel it was a good value for the cost.
The vineyards and wineries were interesting to see. The tour operators were knowledgable and passionate. Worth mentioning in the description for the “non-wine experts” Margaux is known for producing red wine, and there is no white, rose, bubbles to try on this tour. So while the tour was nice, it was a waste for those who don’t drink red wine. Had we known this prior, we would not have booked.
Guides were fantastic! However, we thought we werebooking a half day wine tour. It was instead a half day walking tour that ended with a single wine tour. Overall it was a good tour but not as the title described. We wanted an afternoon of wine tastings.
