Description

Very good tour, except we did not stop at the cave with water pictured on the booking page. Not enough time to properly visit Godafoss falls. Great driver and guide.
It was a great tour. We later did a Diamond Tour too, so there was a bit of overlap. But we were very glad to have done this one too, to see some more points of interest around the Myvatn Lake, like the pseudocraters and the Dimmuborgir lava formations. The tour was well organised, although we had to wait quite a long time for pick-up. That was because the cruise ship had moored away from the harbour, so tour passengers from there (we weren't on the ship) had to be brought to shore on a boat. I don't think The Traveling Viking could have done anything about it. They were very friendly and helpful when we rang them. They also communicated well before the tour, when they got in touch to discuss whether we wanted to go on the German or the English tour (we didn't mind, and were placed into the German one). The tour guide was very good and gave us loads of information. We were puzzled because she occasionally struggled to find a German word but on the other hand had no accent whatsoever. It all made sense when she told us that she spent her early childhood in Germany but hadn't used her German much since then. The lack of an accent made it really easy to understand her, compared to other tour guides. We also felt that she looked after us exceptionally well, taking a lot of precautions to prevent loosing anybody or for anyone to get hurt (we were well warned of the dangers of the hot sulphur pits at Hverir!). We were very pleased with our tour to the volcanic wonders and Godafoss waterfall provided by this vendor. We visited Akureyri on a cruise ship stop and this tour provided more than the cruise tour would have at a lower cost.
Our tour was spectacular!! The sights were unlike any encountered in years of travel. Lily our guide clearly articulated directions , meeting points and times. On the ride into the mountains and back she told us stories, historical facts and even brought details of how native Icelanders live, eat and find entertainment. She is a gem.
Very interesting tour to waterfall, geo thermal activity (steam vents etc) lava rock and fissures from shifting continental plates plus lake myavtn Lilja the tour guide was excellent as she is a local with detailed insights into Icelandic culture and the local area/sights. Coach was comfortable and driver was a good safe driver. Take some insect repellent for midgies.
Excelent tour, the bus picked us at the ship dock (despite changed docking due to weather conditions) and also leaved us there at the end of the tour. The guide Juliana was eceptional, she shared a lot of very interesting islandic stories and facts. There was a lot of stops and enough time to see so many extraordinary scenes. Really good organization, bus driver Oscar and tour guide Juliana were amazing.
Really enjoyed this trip , we got to see everything as detailed in the itinerary with extra short stops for photos , great driver and host , comfortable bus , would recommend . Be aware some of the stops charged for use of toilets and we found midge nets very useful
We booked this tour last minute when another tour company had to cancel and we were very pleased with the tour guide, itinerary and bus driver. Designed for cruise ship passengers - pickup and drop off was near the pier and return was carefully timed for our ship’s departure time. The itinerary covered all the highlights of the area. We especially enjoyed the Godafoss Falls and Dimmuborgir. Fortunately the midges (bugs) were minimal at Lake Myvatn because it was breezy and cool. We brought head net coverings but didn’t need to use them. There were enough midges that I can see how annoying they would be on a warmer, calm day. Guide was informative. Would recommend this tour. It was a much lower price than similar cruise ship excursions.
Great guide beautiful scenery amazing history our guide was extremely informative and helpful we learned a lot and saw a lot in our time there
