First, we go to the Dalia restaurant for breakfast. Then we take a stroll through the market to buy the ingredients for the Tlapique that we are going to cook and that we will eat at the end of the tour. Then, a bike taxi takes us to a quiet, less crowded canal, passing through the forest and stopping at the axolotl sanctuary. The plan is fantastic; the only downside is that we contracted it in Spanish, and almost everything was done in English.
I arrived at this tour seeking exactly what it promises: to escape the party boats and get to know the true Xochimilco, the one that is a UNESCO World Heritage site not by chance. What Trama offers is not just another tourist ride, but a true immersion in the history, ecology, and culture of the chinampas. Everything starts with comfort: they picked me up at my accommodation, a detail that is appreciated and speaks to the care with which the experience is designed. The welcome is at Dalia, a cooperative of women from the area where we could enjoy a special coffee and some toast. The lunch food—a pre-Hispanic tlapique that you help prepare with fresh ingredients gathered from the local market—is delicious. The visit to the axolotl sanctuary, this endearing and endangered amphibian, adds an ecological dimension that rarely appears in conventional tours. But what truly distinguishes this experience is the knowledge and warmth of the guide. Cony was an exceptional host: she explains with passion, answers every question, and ensures that you finish the day not only having navigated the canals but also understanding why they matter, what they represent for Mexico, and why it is worth preserving them. If you are looking for a calm, deep, and authentic Xochimilco, this is the tour. I left eager for more people to discover it. Highly recommended.
Very informative, fun and different than the usual tours!!! If you are looking for a tour that provides culture and good food this is the one!
We LOVED our tour with Miroslava and Trama. I would say it was the highlight of our trip to Mexico City. On our tour Miroslava shared wonderful stories about Xochimilco's culture, history and cuisine that you wouldn't be able to just read in a guide book. The breakfast was outstanding, and I'm so glad we discovered this gem of a tour!
Miroslava and her team provide an incredible experience of Xochimilco, providing insights from past and through present, that include not only the culture and ecological significance of the area, but that of Mexico itself. From a welcoming cafesito at Dahlia, to the tour of the market (where we collected fresh ingredients for our meal), to our experience on the canals, the tour was put together so beautifully. Having the tamals that we made ourselves was such a treat. I would wholly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in exploring Xochimilco, and plan to go back to explore the chiampas at sunrise with Miroslava and Trama’s sunrise experience.
The tour was amazing! This was my second time in Xochimilco and I loved it more than my first time. The experience was one for the books! Staff were friendly and passionate throughout the tour. My friends and I can’t wait to go back.
This was a fabulous way to experience Xochimilco. It was super fun for my whole family, including my young kids! The tour guides were excellent. There were so many unexpected fun things, like the delicious café de olla and pan dolce, the fun bike taxi, learning about the tamale ingredients, and seeing the produce that is grown locally on the chinampas. We got picked up on time, taken to a cozy restaurant and had tasty café de olla and special pan dolces. Did a market tour to learn about and get ingredients for the tamales that we later made on the trajineras. Loved the tamales and the tranjinera ride was lovely and peaceful. We learned a lot about local history, culture and traditions of Xochimilco. This was one of my favorite experiences during my month in CDMX!
Miroslava is simply amazing. We reached pout with a last minute request for a private tour, she was extremely accommodating to make it happen for us within very short notice. Her knowledge of the area is endless, and her kindness heart warming. Thank you again!!
We were supposed to be picked up at 10am for the tour. We arrived at the pickup spot at 9:45am. By 10:30am, we still hadn’t been picked up, the company had not responded to any of my three chat messages, and their phone line was “unavailable.” Contacted Viator and they couldn’t get ahold of the company either. Still waiting for my refund. Overall, just a waste of time.
A truly wonderful tour. It was nice to be a part of small group and get to visit the local market before heading out in the boat. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful yet also very informative tour of Xochimilco, then I would highly recommend this one.
