Chiang mai Hike & Downhill Bike Adventure – Parc national de Suthep

Description

Guide: 10/10 Bike Maintenance: 3/10 Great experience, the tour was planned well, with a nice hike, good lunch, some great views, and fun biking. We did not actually see a waterfall on our hike, and we had to stop on the bike 12+ times for bike maintenance issues. Mostly the chains would not stay on, but also my breaks started to fail part way down and we had to replace break pads. The break lines weren't bled properly so the brakes were spongy. My guides fork broke, so he had to send me solo down the more challenging parts. As with any guided tour, you experience will vary depending on the skill level of your group. We went with a small group and did the whole descent in 39 minutes, but my guide said some groups take 3-4 hours to do the same route which would be a painfully slow pace for someone who has mountain biked before.
Thank you for taking the time to share detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the guide, route planning, views, and overall experience. Regarding the points raised about equipment: all bicycles are inspected and serviced regularly, and any mechanical issues encountered on the trail were addressed immediately to ensure the ride could continue safely. Brake pads are wear items and may require replacement depending on riding conditions and group pace; addressing this on the day is part of responsible bike management, not a failure of preparation. The route includes a jungle hike and scenic viewpoints; waterfalls in this area are seasonal and dependent on recent rainfall. As noted, group pace can vary significantly depending on participants’ experience levels. On this occasion, a small and capable group allowed for a faster descent than average, which we were happy to accommodate. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to maintain our equipment and operations to support a wide range of rider abilities and conditions.
This was utterly breathtaking! Our guide was Danay (sorry if spelt incorrectly) the weather was bad! It was raining and hot the conditions on the way up and down were horrendous but we did not stop enjoying ourselves from start to finish. I am a fit person but this was HARD! I have done this before when it was dry and it was easier but we were fighting with the elements the whole way and sadly I had to get off the bike a few times on the way down because I’m a wimp! Danay never made me feel bad in fact we had the most amazing conversation. He told us all about his life and showed great interest in ours! It was an experience we will never forget! His knowledge of the area and his constant lookout for wild boar and snakes resulted in us spotting a golden web spider! I recommend this to anyone but it’s not for you if you are not fairly fit! That said; I would recommend anyone to take this opportunity! The views, the food, the stories, the jungle the people! It was outstanding!
I was alone with the guide, riding through mud and the forest. It is not easy, and you must be ready to suffer a little... but it is so rewarding! We went through small mud paths, even if I feel relatively comfortable on bike, I was breaking the whole time. The company had brought full protection gears for me, and the bike was in an excellent shape. So the everything was provided to make sure the real risk would be minimised. Be ready to suffer up-hill, be very focussed and happy your breaks work well as you go downhill, and enjoy amazing views and encounters that you would probably not have done otherwise.
The trip was amazing. The only reason I gave it a 4 star was due to them having to change our trip itinerary last minute to do the sticky waterfall and 22km back country biking. Still was epic, but not the original plan/trip we wanted. But our guides were fun and the views were still amazing.
Completed the hike and downhill mountain bike in January 2025. I am an experienced hiker and novice mountain biker. The hike had interesting sections, especially at the start, while the higher elevation (thus cooler temperatures) and lack of crowds made it an enjoyable experience. The downhill mountain bike trail was at my level (beginner) and the bikes were in good condition. My guide (Khun A) was knowledgeable, funny and spoke very good English. Overall I would recommend.
Hike was challenging in the beginning, fantastic overall. View from the top was worth it, along with coffee and a great meal in the village, followed by downhill and cross country mountain biking. At the bottom more sights, an opportunity to cool down in a lake and more delicious Thai food to recover before heading back to Chiang Mai. Thank you Donia for being the best guide we could have asked for in everything we did!
This was quite the experience. First of, everything was run very well. From hotel pick up, bike size selection and the information given. We were then driven to the start point of the hike. The hike was really good, at times it was really steep, mixed in with some not as steep sections. We walked in standard sneakers and they were fine. The start of the hike was relatively easy and had lovely waterfalls. It got pretty steep pretty quickly, but the guides are great and will go to your pace. We had one guide at the front who we kept up with, and the second guide at the back stayed with those who were a bit slower. Once we got to the top the views were lovely. The guides pointed out thisngs on the way, different insects and plants etc. It was quite a few degrees colder at the top. Lunch was delicious. There was 3 or 4 different items to chose (i had fried rice - was delicious). THen it was time for the downhill ride. And downhill it truly is! I wasn't as prepared for this bit. I bike ride (road bike), but this was way more intense than i was prepared for. I will say again, the guides were amazing. One rode ahead with the guys in our group who were happy to go flying down the hill. The second guide stayed at the back with myself and another who were taking it as slow as the bikes would allow us! As there had been so much rain in the past month, the tracks were quite muddy and uneven. The bikes did slide around a fair bit. I will say it was one of the more intense things i have done, but it as awesome. I never once felt pressured to ride faster or go beyond my ability. It started pouring with rain towards the bottom and that made it pretty full on. Anyway, i made it to the bottom, exhausted and thankful to be done in one piece. We were all totally drenched and covered in mud up our backs, but still laughing (eventually). We had out second lunch by the lake. It was too spicy for me but I was able to eat the rice. Had it been a sunny day, the views would've been incredible. One thing I was happy with was on the way they stopped at a 7 Eleven for you to get any snacks you might need. Am guessing its because its quite an intense hike - in heat that we're not used to. I bought a gatorade and some soft jelly lollies. Both of which i was grateful for. I drank the gatorade and my water (supplied by the company) and i the lollies helped my my energy levels. Once we had the first lunch I was fine and didnt need anything for the bike ride. I do highly recommend this acitivity, but definately have a basic level of fitness!
The lush jungle hike up was excellent with loads of flora and fauna. The guides were patient and informative. The coffee up top was as local as one could ever ask for. The bikes coud use revamping for us folks spoiled at home with nice mtn. bikes, but just enjoy the ride and try not to expect a 'hardcore' biking experience. The team was great!!
Had an awesome time doing this, it's a tough hike. Ive done trekking before but never in jungle conditions with humidity.. The first part is quite steep but it gets easier. The mountain biking is a lot of fun, I took the easier route and glad I did.. I'm sure I would of wiped out on the hard route haha. I'd highly recommend if your physically fit and want something adventurous to do in Thailand.
Awesome experience, best thing I did in Thailand I think. I’m very sorry not to remember the guides name but he was great, knowledgable, funny and professional. We had a small group which was great. Hike was 7km 700m elevation, bit slippy in parts so you need proper shoes not just trainers if it’s wet. If you’re not fit, you won’t enjoy it. Coffee plantation was incredible, awesome treehouse style place with their own coffee, I bought some to take away(need cash obviously). Had a good lunch too. The downhill mountain bike was so fun, and it started raining heavily which made it even more fun. Through lychee and avocado plantations. Lychees tasted delicious! Again, you can do it slowly and safely, but if you’ve never mountain biked or limited experience you’d find it hard and perhaps scary at points. Proper pads and helmets are provided though, and it’s not dangerous. Bikes were great too. All in all Highly recommend
