We had a great time on this tour! The guides managed to get us close enough to some humpback whales to get some amazing photos/videos, which was a nice bonus on this tour! All the staff and other guests were super friendly and fun. We had a wonderful experience!
What a wonderful way to spend our first day in Tamarindo . The crew were friendly , weather was beautiful , our vegan lunch was yummy !! Would definitely recommend 😎
Sally I'm happy you enjoyed the day!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Crew … so friendly and accommodating! Would highly recommend! Thank you for making great memories!
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the catamaran cruise. I hope you'll come back and see us again.
Was incredible. We booked the Vela Catamaran and the crew was fantastic, the food and the liquors were 100% acceptable according with the pricing. We also use them for another tour and Eugeniu was great! He was always telling us very interesting information and very friendly. Also Denise and Oliver were very helpful and always giving quick answers even in the after hours! Pura Vida!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here in Costa Rica. Do come back and visit us again soon.!
DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THIS COMPANY. THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED. We booked a Catamaran tour that included Snorkeling, Kayaking and Paddle boarding. They took us to a spot where the water was almost black so couldn't snorkel, there was 1 paddleboard and 2 kayaks for 40 ppl. It was a huge party boat with 35 of the 40 people in their late teems or early 20s, and 6 people in their 40s/50s...including us. At one point there were sexual acts making it uncomfortable for many, poll dancing as well. When I requested a partial refund, I was told by the owner, Debbie, that "if this was Judge Judy....I ate the steak"...meaning I went to the restaurant, had a bad experience, but still ate the main course. Well, after reflecting on what could have been the worse example I've heard ever, I rebelled back to say we were locked on the boat for 6 hours, had no other recourse, and 3 of the 4 things offered weren't possible. While a partial refund of $10 per person to use on another excursion was offered, we declined. We were very descriptive what we wanted when we booked the excursion, they knew our demographic (just by looking at us) yet proceeded to put us on an excursion that didn't meet our needs in any way. The brochure + promise clearly advertises paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkeling - how can 40 ppl do the 1st 2 with only 1 or 2, and they take us to an area for snorkeling where you can't see 6 inches in front of you. Buyer beware I guess!
The group of passengers and pura vida vibes made this cruise PERFECT, despite red tide preventing snorkeling and sea snakes(?) cutting in-water activities short. The crew worked as a team and made sure everyone was having a good time. Food (snack pico & chips before swimming as well as chicken beans & rice just before sunset) was delicious and drinks were plentiful and varied. Sunset did not dissappoint and the music had EVRYONE dancing - great mix!
Debi, I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour. Come back to visit and do it again!
The crew was really awesome, this review is for the booking agents. They sold easily twice as many tickets as they should have. You couldn't get up and walk around the boat at all, we were crammed in shoulder-to-shoulder like sardines- at least 75 guests aside from the crew. I would gladly pay twice as much per ticket for half as crowded a boat. The bathrooms were overflowing with urine in the unflushed toilets. We had fun swimming but there definitely wasn't snorkeling equipment for everyone and there were maybe 2 paddle boards and canoes, a ton of floaty noodles and that was about it. I wanted more of a party boat for the 20-somethings in our group but they were just as grossed out by the overcrowding as we were. It was fun toward the end when people were drunk and dancing but it took a lot of vodka to soldier through this. One woman asked us why on earth there weren't more bad reviews, I said probably because the crew was so sweet. If you get sucked into this, tip your crew, and pick a different company next time.
Audrey, If the number of guests you say is true then yes, that is way too many for that boat. Xplore sells this boat as well as all of the others in Tamarindo. We are also not the only booking agent. There are travel agencies and tour operators etc. that are also booking the boat. When we inquire if they have space we expect them to adhere to their legal space limit. It's impossible for us to know how many more they are allowing after we have booked. So in short, your complaint is not with the booking agents but the greedy boat owner who allows the over-booking.
Sunset was amazing food was good especially the banana bread. In the ad it said snacks and beverages but it was a filling meal which I enjoyed. Things I did not like kayak they only had one on a full boat did snorkeling and saw nothing in the water. Water was dirty and not clear the tour guides were friendly and engaging. William was accommodating took pictures for us and he catered to our needs.
Nicole, It sounds like most of this tour was to your liking with the exception of things that are out of our control. We cannot produce fish on demand or control the clarity of the water on any particular day. The availability of the extra toys like kayaks and SUP boards vary as they are always getting broken and there's only so much room on board. They couldn't possibly have one for each person. Denise
I booked a surprise private sunset catamaran cruise for my friend's birthday during our time in Tamarindo. Denise was wonderful to work with as we were booking the tour and answered all questions I had. The instructions were very easy to follow and we were able to meet up with our guides easily at the meeting location we were sent. Our two guides, Jon Luca and Maui were incredible. They were personable, attentive, funny, and knowledgeable. They really made our experience great. The boat was clean and beautiful and all of the snacks and drinks provided were perfect. We had the most amazing day on the water and my friend told me it was the best birthday she could have asked for. I would highly recommend Xplore Costa Rica for the sunset catamaran tour and would book again in a heartbeat.
Thank you very much for the nice comments. I hope you'll come back and see us again soon.
