Unfortunately, the SS Rotterdam was disappointing. It was overpriced for the self tour, the layout was confusing, and staff service was unhelpful and disorganized. Not the experience we hoped for.
A beautiful steamship where you can get a tour of the ship. This ship has a historical connection to Rotterdam because it used to be used as a cruise ship to New York. The tour takes you into the main spots of the ship, you will enter the engine room, indoor pool, and dinner rooms.
Guided tour and engine room done. The engine room is impressive - what one could do even then! And how everything works. Fresh air takes you through various rooms that have been restored in old style. Incredibly beautiful and special to see. Both tours are given even more color and content by the many volunteers who tell additional information and experience stories.
Very friendly staff. Excursion / tour definitely recommended what can those people tell passionately about the history of the ship.
The tour is subject to payment unless you reside in a luxury room that gives you access to the full tour of the ship. This visit is worth a visit and really worth it. You wandered throughout the ship and for the engine room you were accompanied by a crew member. That said but dress warmly cat it is cold in the engine room. (visit in February)
Good time and great experience. Some places would need a refurbishment but this is part of the place. The restaurant grill Lido, is average. Breakfast is good. Some pieces like the small discotheque or the theater are a real step back but for the rest, it would be really great to take the experience even further.
We did a scavenger hunt with a few teams on the SS Rotterdam. That was really phenomenal fun. You get to all kinds of places, on the bow, the stern, in the wheelhouse. You go from one deck to another and you really discover the ship. There was a service dog with it and for her it was really doable. We ended it with dinner at the Lido restaurant.
Excellent restoration on this ship showing the height of ocean cruising. The audio tour is very good and the docents are great. Toured the first class areas, bridge, and sports decks. Lots of history of the Holland America line contained on the ship. Wish had time for engine room tour as well.
The tour with audiophone was fine, but the extra addition of the passionate volunteers with their stories was totally top notch. We started with the engine room, impressive with great stories from the experienced engineer. Then enjoyed a high tea in the Clubroom, delicious and then continued with the tour. From Ambassador Lounge to the deck and through to the wheelhouse. It was a great experience!
The SS Rotterdam is firmly on the quay, is a hotel, has nice restaurants and from the upper deck a beautiful view of Rotterdam.
