Commencez la visite sur la place principale, où le célèbre match de football joué en costumes médiévaux, le Calcio Storico Florentino, a lieu ici chaque année en juin. Votre guide décrira en détail toute l'immense richesse artistique de Santa Croce; des fresques (1380) de Gaddi dans la Cappella Maggiore racontent l'histoire de "Santa Croce" et de belles fresques de Giotto dans les chapelles Bardi et Peruzzi montrent des scènes de la vie de saint François et de saint Jean l'évangéliste. Sur votre chemin vers la gauche de l'entrée, admirez le mémorial du dramaturge du XIXe siècle Giovanni Battista Niccolini construit pour inspirer la Statue de la Liberté. En traversant les murs sacrés, découvrez l'art de Donatello et de son crucifix, l'un des joyaux de la Renaissance, ainsi que l'art de Brunelleschi et la parfaite harmonie architecturale de sa chapelle des fous.
Découvrez le cimetière monumental et les peintures endommagées qui ont été détruites lors de la tragique inondation de 1966 et ont ensuite été restaurées. Après avoir visité l'intérieur, découvrez l'extérieur qui est recouvert d'une façade en marbre polychrome. Enfin, le guide vous fera visiter le clocher, la crypte et les 16 chapelles. La visite dure environ une heure et vous aurez la possibilité de revenir à tout ce que vous voudrez peut-être revoir après la fin de la visite.

Walking Among the Masters at Santa Croce was a memorable experience of our time in Florence. From the moment we stepped into the basilica, it felt like walking through Italian history. Seeing the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, and Rossini in one place was incredible, and our guide added to the context. We learned about the impact of the 1966 Florence flood and the restoration efforts. We also enjoyed seeing Donatello’s crucifix. So much to see and our photos don’t give it justice.

Claudia, my guide, replaced her colleague (sick) at the foot. Very friendly, she explained to me with passion all the history this sublime Basilica. So sharp about dates and anecdotes in perfect French, I had the impression that she had lived during the time of buried protagonists. By far the most beautiful visit I've made.

Absolutely wonderful tour guide. She had a passion for history and provided us with some of the lesser known but more interesting details. The Basilica di Santa Croce is a wonderful church which should be included in your Florence trip. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained the significance of the artwork around the church and grounds. The church and beautiful artwork are spectacular....the history of the church is amazing.....and it is the church where Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli are all buried. Highly recommend taking this tour.

I was fortunate enough to be the only one taking the tour so it was very personal. The guide told me about the history of the basilica, its architecture, and spoke about the tombs and epitaphs of Galileo, Michelangelo, Dante, Machiavelli, Rossini and others as well as the artistry of Donatello and Cimabue.
