Cette visite combine le marais Manchac privé avec Whitney Plantation. Il y a dix ans, Whitney Plantation, vers 1752, ouvrait ses portes au public pour la première fois de son histoire en tant que seul musée de plantation en Louisiane entièrement consacré à l'histoire de l'esclavage. L'expérience à Whitney est une visite audio auto-rythmée. Les visiteurs de Whitney auront un point de vue unique sur les esclaves qui vivaient et travaillaient ici grâce à des expositions muséales, des dépendances historiques restaurées et des centaines de récits à la première personne. Ensuite, il vous faudra faire un petit tour jusqu'à un refuge animalier privé dans le marais de Manchac, où les capitaines cajuns locaux vous emmèneront dans un voyage de retour aux premiers jours de l'exploration des marais. Ils Guideront le ponton couvert à travers le marais mystique de cyprès tout en montrant l'Alligator américain et la faune abondante. Apprenez l'histoire de la ville de Frenier et la culture cajun de la pêche, de la chasse et du piégeage. Préparez la caméra alligators bondissant vers le haut pour une collation!

Bien qu'on l'appelle un lac, il s'agit en fait d'un grand lagon et d'un estuaire saumâtre alimenté par des rivières d'eau douce et relié au golfe du Mexique. D'une superficie de 1 600 km2, il s'agit de l'un des plus grands milieux humides d'Amérique du Nord.
Regardez le déversoir, une opération de contrôle des inondations dans le bas Mississippi à l'ouest de La Nouvelle-Orléans. Le déversoir, lorsqu'il est ouvert, permet aux eaux de crue du Mississippi de se déverser dans le lac Pontchartrain et de là dans le golfe du Mexique.
Ce refuge animalier privé garantit que vous ne rencontrerez aucun autre bateau pendant votre voyage paisible dans le marécage. Les capitaines cajuns locaux racontent leurs propres explorations des marais et des informations fascinantes sur les plantes et la faune que vous rencontrerez. Captain Dustin was great, funny and has a great play list by the way. He is really entertaining if you have a sense of humor this is your captain to get.
Thomas was EXCELLENT! He was so knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy explain the "circle of life" in the swamp us. This man not only loves what he does, he LIVES it!!! Truly a treasure.

iv just returned from a full day tour of whitney plantation and swamp tour great combination the trip was made even better by the very informative,super friendly tour guide robert s what a guy he was superb and driver anton was excellent definitely recommend this tour 100 percent and try to get on with robert s thanks guys
They fill the bus so if traveling with someone or a group get there early. The driver and guide were great. Captain Dustin was amazing for the boat ride
The plantation and swamp tours were great and we learned a lot, but I’m docking one star due to poor communication about lunch. We were only told upon reaching Whitney, when the guide casually asked if the group was okay skipping lunch. After 1–2 people said yes, it was assumed everyone agreed, with no real option or warning beforehand. We spent the full 9–5 day in sweltering heat with only chips and chocolate, which made the experience much harder than it should have been. Food is important on a full-day tour, and better arrangements or clearer communication should be in place.

This tour is a great way to cover two must do experiences in one day. Kimberly was knowledgeable and engaging. She took great care of us. We learned a lot from her.
The guide is exclusively English-speaking. I am French and did not understand anything of the explanations that seemed very informative. Perhaps consider a day for a French-speaking guide. The time is too short to visit the Whitney plantation. The bayou tour is too short. We quickly turned back. The fact of feeding animals with sweets to attract them was quite shocking.
Both the swamp ride and the Whitney Plantation were really great experiences. Swamp ride was informative and the tour guide answered all questions and made sure we left informed. Whitney Plantation had me crying for all the slaves who suffered at the hands of plantation owners and the public in general. We chose Whitney for the education they provide regarding the experiences of slaves. This is a history we need to keep alive and more people need to learn! Only recommendation is that they just put a note to either bring food/snacks or be prepared to purchase at a secondary location.
