Our guide was great with lots of local historical i & other nsights unexpectedly fun and interesting was the scoop on numerous plants and their uses in Hawaiian life. Pack your rain gear. Hiking boots beat sneakers deforestation the rainforest.
High atop Honolulu is a lush green jungle that is a lifetime away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. This approximately two hour hike was a fabulous way to spend a morning while learning Hawaiian history. Our tour guide, Sarah, was perhaps the most well informed tour guide I've ever encountered. She had a grasp of the Hawaiian vocabulary that some locals don't have, it was impressive! Of all the tours in Ohau, and I have done several, this one feels the most like a nature hike, and is one I'd put on the top of my list for sure!
Great hike. Walking sticks available if needed.
Our guide Terry picked us up at our hotel in the Waikiki area right on time. I was with my two teenage/adult children. We were dressed in casual athletic clothing with running and walking shoes. The 3 mile hike doesn’t have much inclines and is a manicured trail. I would recommend a toothy trail shoe with some traction as we encountered some mud. Some extra grip would provide some confidence. Water cartons, granola bars, a hip bag and mosquito repellant was provided. You are under the cover of the foliage so you don’t need sunscreen. The hike was easy enough that I barely drank water. Our guide Terry was amazing. He was constantly making sure everyone on the tour was ok. It was the 3 of us with another couple. He had so much information and knowledge about the history of Hawaii, the plants/foliage we encountered and the animals that lived in the forest. This is an easy hike that I would recommend to any group looking for a casual , non strenuous hike to learn about Hawaii and get some amazing photos with views in the background.
Our guide Terry was the best. He’s an expert on Hawaiian history, flora, and fauna. Rainforest hike was lush and interesting to learn Hawaii facts.
Great experience. Our tour guide was on time and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the hike along with the scenic views.
We had a great time and it was some very beautiful views overlooking the pacific, Pearl harbour, Honolulu area. Our guide Terry was very knowlegable on both nature and geografics on Hawaii as well as culture, politics and history. We had a great time hiking this trail and will definetly use them again.
Great hike with Michael as our guide. It was wonderful to get out of the city and go someplace without a ton of people. Learned a lot about the plants/trees that are native and which ones were brought over on purpose. Oahu has a very interesting history! The walk wasn’t too strenuous - recommend hiking shoes because of the muddy sections. Great views
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. He reveal information about the area, culture, plant life and wild animals.. we had a great group and it was quite intimate as there were 4 of us, and that made it even more interesting. Loved it. I could have hiked for miles but it was a nice 2.4 mile excursion. Nice for a family to do and I enjoyed it too. It was not very steep so anyone could do it. It can be muddy tho, so wear sneakers that are durable. Great fun
We just had the best time! Our tour guide Terii was knowledgeable about the plants, animals, geography/geology, and Hawaiian history. We are hikers, not bikers, and we came prepared with proper hiking shoes and our trekking poles. What we couldn’t have predicted was the sudden rain (but hey, it’s a rainforest!), but Terii had ponchos! It was advertised as pickup at 9, 4 hours, and we had booked Iolani Palace for 2:45, so Terii made sure we were back by 1. Too bad, though, because he was prepared with snacks and was willing to go farther. The terrain was moderate and we (in our 70s) had no problems. Gorgeous views. Definitely recommend it!
