The Jaguar Rescue Center is a great place to visit, learn and see a variety of animals in their care. The center has a great ethos and runs primarily on donations, with many of the staff working as volunteers. Id highly recommend this tour, including the forest walk with guide Adrian who is very knowledgeable and all round good guy. We learnt about the area, plants animals and whole ecosystem, history and how the coastal area nearby is being affected by climate change. A superb day!
A really great half day excursion with not too much driving. We were lucky enough to have the driver pick us up from our hotel in Cahuita, which was a nominal extra fee, but cheaper than a taxi. The driver was very good, and made us feel very safe on busy roads. We picked up our guide Adrian on the way to the first stop, whose English is impeccable. The Jaguar Rescue Centre was just great, Adrian got us in and made sure we were in the correct group, and even showed us some frog eggs and a frog while we waited for the tour to start. He was able to answer extra questions for us when the Centre guide was busy, which was really helpful. The tour of the facility was very educational, the enclosures for each animal were well thought out and included lots of enrichment. All animals looked content, healthy and well cared for. We then had fresh fruit on the beach at Punta Uva, then did a short hike up to the point itself to see some very cool trees and the view. Adrian is incredibly knowledgeable and is an excellent wildlife spotter. As a former Biology teacher, I can attest to his wealth of knowledge! My mother and I would recommend Adrian and our driver to anyone and everyone we know.
Great views with a great guide. We enjoyed our time with Adrian. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, and great with kids.
Unfortunately, if you are looking for a Jaguar here, you will not find it. But there is no one in the garage either. Every penny is invested in animal rescue. We've seen a lot of rescue centers. Many of them were pure money tailoring and had nothing to do with animal rescue. Here, however, around 95% of the animals are actually reintroduced. Every human contact is one too many. Only the animals can be seen that would not make it alone in freedom. In front of the outdoor enclosures sit carers who help the animals if necessary. It was a great and very interesting tour. No question remained unanswered. Many thanks to the team of Ilona and Hans
It’s a rain or shine thing. I packed sunglasses and a hat, sunscreen and an umbrella and raincoat (I needed it all!)
The guided tour of the rescue center was very informative and gave us a chance to see wildlife up close. Our guide inside the park was Anne and she was very knowledgeable.
Adrian was a great tour guide. On our way to the tour he gave us a great history lesson about the different cultural influences in the area. Once at the rescue center he was spotting wildlife at every turn. He was very knowledgeable about the natural environment and we learned quite a few new things during our tour. Adrian has lived in a few different regions in Costa Rica, was a tour guide in a few and likes to see new parts of the country when he can. Adrian offers lots of tours, making him the perfect tour guide for your next trip!
Amazing tour! A very educational and wonderful experience!! Adrián is local and extremely knowledgeable about the beauty and wildlife of CR. My husband and I loved that he could fill in the background and give perspective to what you can’t always find reading tour guides.
