Absolutely lovely tour. Perfect blend of regional history, landscapes, and show-specific site seeing. I love that we saw Alf Wight’s real life practice, as well as the filming locations for the 1990s show and current BBC TV series. John was a fabulous guide. Cannot recommend highly enough— and make sure to eat lunch at the Drover’s (Devonshire Grassington).

We were visiting York and one of our must do activities was to see the filming locations for All Creatures Great and Small. Luckily, Mountain Goat Tours more than just ticked the box and gave us much more. We had already been on a Mountain Goat Tour with John to Whitby and knew the Tour would be amazing. This tour was also run by John (which we were pleased about). The tour picks up people from Leeman Road Coach Stop A (opposite the Memorial Gardens) at around 8:50am for a 9am start. The tour takes you through Ripton to Grassington which is used as the filming location of the fictional town of Darrowby for the current All Creatures Great and Small. You spend around 45 minutes in the village before moving to St Michael and All Angels Church which was used to film the wedding and baptism scenes (and also has a connection to Mouseman). After leaving the church behind, you will travel to the Wensleydale Creamery which offers free sample of cheeses, food in the restaurant including milkshakes and ice cream as well as souvenirs. If Wensleydale cheese isn’t your thing, you can choose to travel down the road to Hawes to get food in the town. Once picked up you will normally travel to Aysgarth Falls (currently the extreme heat didn’t make this possible) before driving through Askrygg used to film scenes for the original All Creatures Great and Small from the 1970s. The final destination was Bolton Castle where you can either explore the place that was the jail for Mary Queen of Scots, climb the tower for panoramic views or go into the gardens to watch the Bird of Prey talks (which are amazing). Throughout the tour John gave commentary which was brilliant and informative for everyone, giving an insight into life in York and the Dales. He is an amazing guide and an asset to the Tour. The Tour is fantastic value for money and I cannot recommend enough that visitors to York, whether fans of All Creatures or not, takes this tour.

John, our driver and guide, made this tour a delight. He was personable, easy-going, a great storyteller, and a highly informative historian. I also loved his etymological insights into the origins of town names and some common idioms. I enjoyed the final quiz, and realized that I had absorbed many facts in a short time and in a pleasurable way. Oh, and the scenery, villages, Norman church, and Bolton Castle were all wonders!

The "All Creatures Great and Small" tour was wonderful! Barry was a great driver/guide, very informative about everyplace we went. My favorite stops were the original house/vet practice in Thirsk and the village of Grassington/Darrowby. I had been a fan of the series since the original in the 1970s and to drive through the beautiful Dales and imagine James/Alf driving the same roads at all times of the day and night and in all kinds of weather was just delightful! If you are a fan of ACGS, make the time to take this tour, you will love it!

Our family really enjoyed this tour. Pleasantly surprised by the beautiful views and scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. Grassington was lovely, the historic castle tour was a pleasant surprise and perfect for kids and history lovers, and Wensleydale Creamery was a picturesque spot to have lunch. Highly recommend!!

It is very scenic and Bob provided a great deal of information along the way. With all that is included, there is not really adequate time for lunch, so I recommend bringing along something handheld (ie sandwiches, only permitted food to eat on the bus). Loved travelling along the winding narrow roads with views of the fields, sheep, cattle and stone walls.
Thank you Paula for your 5 star review of our All Creatures Great and Small tour with our driver guide Bob! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time on tour with ourselves, adventuring through the dales, seeing the sheep and stone walls. I enjoyed going around Yorkshiredale, where it was hard to go around without a car. Although I had not seen the drama of "All Living Things...", I still enjoyed the place I visited without any confusion. Nature, history, cheese factory. The guide also served as a driver, but there was no interruption. The van was spacious and comfortable, and I didn't get tired.
