Not Worth Your money

Traveled with my fiancé and another couple who are our best friends. Literally the worst tour I have ever taken or experienced from this app. I have been using the VIATOR app for many years for several different excursions around the country and never been disappointed until this one. Very boring, The tour guy did not seem very excited and very monotone. We were able to stop one place during mid tour for cocktails and we were sent into one of two different places and then just come back and meet with your crowd. I feel like there was some history shared, but did not seem super knowledgeable. Definitely a thumbs down. I would rate it one star if that and I would suggest you doing something else!

Hi Tina, This doesn't sound like anything we do or offer. It sounds like you made up a bunch of stuff that isn't even remotely true. We guess that you were so embarrassed at being almost 45 minutes late that you felt a negative review was the only way to redeem yourself. You are mistaken. Monotone? You were with one of our most animated guides, who, ironically, has received bad reviews for being *too* animated. Secondly, it's clear you're confused about what and who you were touring with. Viator does not own my company. Not even close. They work for me, not the other way around. Additionally, you DID NOT take a pub crawl. We give a break half way, as is described in our VIATOR ad and are not even obligated to provide that one if it's too busy. If you wanted to get drunk at a bunch of bars you definitely need to do a better job reading what you buy. We have a zero tolerance for drunks and since you can't recall much of anything information-wise, we will make our own assumptions about your and your group's clarity and whether that allowed you to even be in the right state of mind to make any judgements. As for how you were as guests, we'd give you two thumbs down and strongly suggest you find anything else to do anywhere but New Orleans. As you already know, you can't train character so I hope you were honest about yours... Be nice or leave, which means you should probably leave.

Read the 1 Star reviews before purchasing- don't waste your money.

Reader's Digest version of details below: Please save your money. Read the one-star reviews and, more importantly, read the company's responses to them. Those responses tell you almost as much about the customer experience as the tour itself. This tour was an absolute rip-off. For two people, after taxes and fees, the total was nearly $100—and for that price, I expected a 'Ghost, Crime, Voodoo, and Vampire' story telling experience, as stated in the name of the tour. What I got was the following: 1) The French Quarter is full of rich history (the good, bad, and ugly, but there is a lot of history here). The tour guide focused on discussions about her personal ADHD, dyslexia and anxieties (mentioned several times) during the tour. I paid for a ghost, crime, voodoo, and vampire tour, not a personal lecture or a showcase for the tour guides' personal agendas and anxieties. 2) HELLVISION™, which costs extra and was vaguely explained as a 'VIP tour to add HELLVISION™ digital projection of real images', amounted to a handheld projector displaying Googled images on buildings that looked worse than a 4th grade PowerPoint presentation. Charging an additional $12pp fee for this was insulting given how it added zero value to the tour. 3) I trusted the 4.8/5 review, which is why I gave this tour a chance. I'll trust that there were wonderful tour guides in other walking tours. However, I strongly recommend reading the company's responses to its one-star reviews before spending your money, and you will get an idea of what you're dealing with. The complaints made by other one-star reviewers happened to mirror my experience. Rather than responding professionally and acknowledging legitimate customer concerns, the company's responses sounded unprofessional, came across as hostile, sarcastic, condescending, and personally directed at the customers who paid for the experience. Some responses reportedly go so far as to question reviewers' intelligence. Always the customer's fault, with zero accountability for their actions and how they represent the 'company'. They attack the customer, blame the customer, or become defensive rather than just simply address what went wrong. Examples include comments such as: "Liz: We seem to have a problem here. And the problem is this: You think you know more than you do...boy oh boy, do you have a lot to learn... Let’s start with...a SAG-AFTRA member who has more credits to his name than you have IQ points..." "Are you sure you were old enough to even take this tour???? I can’t imagine anyone grown who doesn’t understand basic economics..." "Hi Carrie, We love guests like you. You know, the ones that make it so easy for us to refute it's like a little gift you bestow upon us." "YOU ruined your night, by being a jerk. Your group was not "collectively" turned off and bored, unless of course you detected that your mere presence was enough to make others miserable." "...just because she didn't suck up to you and kiss your butt the way you believed she should have, doesn't mean that she deserved this level of wrath from some washed up attorney stuck working in corporate law... For future experiences, we recommend you take your own advice and "ditch the attitude." " Best of luck navigating the rest of your life when you don't bother to understand what you got yourself into before getting into it!" 4) They consistently reference reviewing body-camera footage in their responses. If footage is being invoked to dispute a customer's account, then actually addressing the specific allegation would be far more professional than merely saying footage was reviewed, denying the claim, and leaving it at that. Otherwise, it's a convenient way to dismiss criticism without addressing the problem. 5) Any business should be able to accept criticism without throwing a tantrum at the people who provided the revenue that keeps it operating. If multiple customers independently describe similar problems, perhaps the answer isn't to insult those customers, but rather to examine the experience and improve it.

Hi Gretchen. You’re right, our one-star reviews absolutely do tell you what kind of Company we are, how we do our business, and what guests can expect from us. Additionally, our 4.8/5 rating ALSO tells you what kind of Company we are, how we do our business, and what guests can expect from us. It’s strange that you were willing to give us a chance based on that rating but now can only focus on the negative claims, namely, one from someone we can only assume is your friend and you’re trying to do her a solid by attempting to finish her dirty work. Yep! HELLVISION is described like that and yep, that’s exactly what you got. HELLVISION is the marriage of oral storytelling and digital imaging delivered via handheld projector. However, we have no idea where you are getting your math from. Our standard tour is priced at $40/ticket and our VIP Hellvision is priced at $47/ticket. That’s $7 last time we checked. That you were insulted that we would have to charge a higher price on a tour that has a higher cost to produce is not something we can help. So, did you follow your own advice? Or did you take the tour so you could leave a one star review backing up a previous negative reviewer? If you followed your own advice, and found our fabricated, slanderous, and libelous statements so offensive, then why did YOU book a tour? Rhetorical question. It's there so that others reading this see your game. Or maybe you didn’t take the tour at all since we cannot locate you on our manifest and you’re just trying to help out a friend get more attention than is deserved. Yes, we have body cam footage. But, we only mention having it in three reviews. It’s a new thing. We didn’t always have our guides wear them. Thanks to guests like you and the reviewer you mention, we’ve discovered they have been an absolute godsend in negating and disputing the untrue and exaggerated narratives created. We have provided it to Viator in the case of the reviewer you mention, Liz, who determined that she was in fact, making stuff up and that her claims of "political commentary and leftist agendas" and whatever other ridiculous comments she made are 100% fabricated. She lost all owed respect at that point. Full stop. And finally, we absolutely do accept criticism when it is warranted and have terminated tour guides based on guest reviews. We don't actually care if *everyone* loves us. We aren't for everyone and we are absolutely fine with that. However, we will not accept lies, slander, libel, multiple reviews from one guest (a violation of Viator TOS), and guests who attempt to claim historical facts are lies. And yes, our attitude is, if you don't like that, go away. In our opinion, more companies should stand up to bully guests like you and like the reviewer you copied and pasted our response to. If they did, perhaps more people like us, who are sick of bullies and the misinformation and conspiracies they spread would be more apt to spend money with companies like ours.

Ricardo the great with side kick wolfy

Experience- information was informative to consider against current ideas Admission fee- $32 more of that needs to go to the tour guides. Length/ was good. Nice we were not bombarded on main strips to hear information. Really liked to midway break/ great establishments to choose

Hi Dollie, We are thrilled that you enjoyed your time with Ricardo and our newest trainee, Wolfy. We'd love to give more to our guides but so long as people like you book through a platform that takes more than 30% of our admission fees, we will do our best with what we have! Thanks for choosing Hottest Hell Tours and remember, booking direct is always best!

Waste of time and money

The worst tour we have ever been on. Leave your medical conditions and personal politics out of a tour as it’s very unprofessional.. The tour seemed like a production to amuse yourselves. Very disappointing. We should have seen the red flags in other reviews.

Réponse de l'opérateur

Hi Victoria, we're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the tour, but it seems you may have some other axe to grind as the bodycam footage we reviewed from the tour doesn't support your claims. Your guide never discussed any personal matters, and politics is one of the topics that's specifically off-limits, as we mention with the rules at the beginning of each tour. However, if any of the city's factual history we share doesn't sit well with your personal political beliefs, we have no control over that. It's also noteworthy that none of the other guests on the tour outside of your party had any issues with the content, guide, or storytelling. We do understand that some people won't appreciate the things we discuss, but they're all unbiased and historically accurate, and you're absolutely correct that anyone like you who finds the truths about history uncomfortable or inappropriate should definitely avoid our tours.

Very cool storytelling!! Gripping!!

This tour was so much fun!! Our tour guide was a very animated storyteller, she really knew how to pace both the walking and the stories. She was well attuned to the guests' needs and made sure we had time to get any pictures we wanted, ask any questions we had, and also to get a drink and use the restroom on the break in the middle. She was very knowledgeable, which made asking her further questions really fun and rewarding. She was also very respectful of the neighborhood and its denizens, which I really appreciated. I wish I remembered her name, but I know she had cards with a tarot card on the back; I hope she gets her shine!

Elaine was fantastic!!!!

Elaine was a fantastic storyteller, and we really enjoyed the Adults Only Ghosts, Crime & Voodoo Tour. I expected a little more ghosts and voodoo, but our tour leaned more heavily into crime and New Orleans history—which ended up being fascinating. What really set Elaine apart was the historical context she brought to the stories. She backed things up with newspaper clippings and other visuals that she actually projected onto walls as we walked. Such a cool touch! There was so much interesting information that I honestly wished I had taken notes because I wanted to go home and dig deeper into several of the stories. The pace was also perfect. It was a casual walk and never felt rushed. We had plenty of time to ask questions, discuss things, and actually enjoy the experience. The only hiccup had nothing to do with Elaine. I booked months ago using a card that was later stolen and deactivated. A few days before the tour, I received an email saying the payment hadn’t gone through and providing a link to update it. When I followed the link, I was told I needed to rebook with a different payment method, so I did. When we arrived three days later, both reservations were still active—and I’ve now been charged twice. Hopefully that’s easily corrected, but the booking process could definitely be clearer in that situation. That aside, Elaine absolutely gets 5 stars from us. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the history come alive. If you enjoy the darker and more unusual side of New Orleans history, you’ll leave with plenty of new rabbit holes to explore!

Thank you Tina!! That's an incredible review of Elaine and the majick she brings to every tour, which is what has made her so popular with our guests. We're sorry to hear about the difficulty you had with the booking process through TripAdvisor/Viator, but they did notify us later that night that they did refund one of your two bookings, so you should see that returned to you shortly. Thanks for taking the time to share all of this with everyone, and we'd love to have you back for one of our other tours someday!
