Kevin was a great guide and he was also very funny. he shared lots of good stories about the hutong and the food we ate. We enjoyed his company very much. He is also very helpful to my elderly mother, keeping her pace during the walk around the hutong and asking her food preferences when ordering. We loved Kevin very much!
Fantastic sampling of many classic Chinese dishes! Our guide, Miko, taught us about the history of Beijing and the proper way to eat each unique dish. Good vegetarian options! Hotel pickup was convenient. Great option for first timers in mainland China!
Due to not feeling well as a result to a GI virus, my family of 4 was recommended to do the night tour instead of the morning one that we had signed up for so that we could avoid the heat. We showed up to the tour not realizing that additional people were also signed up and that it was for 4 hours instead of 3 (as the tour title implies). After an exhilarating and hot 1.5 hours of riding around the streets of Shanghai, it no longer became safe for me to ride due to feeling like I was going to pass out. However, I was told by the guide to be strong and continue on for another 2.5hrs since there was no option to end early since others were on the tour. I continued on, but quickly began to feel faint and had to pull off on the side of the road. My family followed me while we tried to come up with a reasonable solution. In the meantime, our guide panicked while trying to figure out how to handle the situation which included a lot of yelling at me and my husband in front of our kids. We eventually came up with a solution to bring our bikes back to our hotel and then pay a truck 450rmb to deliver the bikes back to the company’s office. In the meantime, my 10-year-old daughter started to cry due to being scared that I was going to pass out and also get into a lot of trouble by this company for not finishing the tour. Seeing that this was our last night in China after a three week trip, it was a pretty traumatic experience to end on and I wish this company would have a contingency plan in place for these types of situations. In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have agreed to go on this tour to begin with; however, a reputable bike company would have a much more tactful way to handle the situation, including warning me not to join the tour from the start if they thought it would even possibly be an issue.
This was a great opportunity to experience local food outlets and learn about the history of the hutongs. Our guide Anson was excellent. Highly recommended!
Amazing food experience, 5 restaurants with different Chinese province food in 3 hours. Lucy speaks excellent English and is a fantastic guide. Highly recommended.
Anson was our tour guide. He spoke great English and had tons of knowledge about the neighborhoods we were walking in, which was also the location of our hotel. He gave us a variety of food choices, all delicious, but did give us the option to be more adventurous. We opted out of eating anything too exotic. We were so impressed with Anson, we signed up for a tour at the Forbidden City and requested him. He is extremely knowledgable about the history in China and tells it in a way that keeps things interesting.
We were met by our guide Linda at our hotel. Linda took us on an amazing tour over more than 3 hours around Beijing. Linda was very pleasant and well educated to provide us with much information about what we ate at each location. TIP - Do not eat too much too early !! There are maybe 8 stops on the tour to sample food. We felt guilty towards the end as we were full and could only try the last few dishes. No pressure to eat the food though. Linda was very friendly and likeable and would recommend her for this tour. Thanks Linda !
Overall, we enjoyed the personable experience and the story telling. We had our tour with Anson. And he made the tour very personable for us. He brought us to places where we would not have gone on our own. My favorite part besides the eating was the little tour of the hutongs. He shared with us the significance of the door ways which made our trip to the forbidden city more relatable. Food wise though, we're from Los Angeles which already have a lot of similar food and this tour gave us a new insights about the cuisine.
My girlfriend and I took this tour with Lucy and LOVED IT! It was just us three hanging out and walking through Hutong. It felt like exploring the city and spending time with a close friend. She was really nice, friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and welcoming. 1000% recommend to anyone visiting Beijing!
Becky was a fantastic guide. I’m only sad because we did this on our first night in town and I was so jet lagged that I wish I could have stayed longer and visited even more amazing food stops!
