Our tour guide, James, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Namibia. He guided us around the memorial museum adding his extensive knowledge to the excellent displays. He has a lovely manner and a touch of humour alongside his details of the government buildings, church, fort and museum. He also took us to briefly see the living conditions in the township, where we met some very friendly residents, as well as a walk around a local food market. Overall we learned a great deal and had the opportunity to safely see a side to Windhoek we'd otherwise have missed
James picked us up from our Hotel very promptly and took us on a walking tour of the church, parliament building and the independence memorial museum. We learnt so much about Namibian history and their struggle for independence and democracy. I found it very moving. We then went to the townships and were greeted warmly by people who lived there. It was a real eye opener to how the majority of working people live and work. We then went to the food market and tasted the delicious Kapana beef. An excellent and enlightening morning to introduce us to Windhoek and Namibia.
I was asked by the operator to switch my Sunday morning tour to the afternoon, move it to another day, or cancel the booking. I chose the Sunday afternoon option. Unfortunately not a good choice given the 5 listed itinerary stops: - parliamentary gardens not able to walk through, only view from gate - Christuskirche church closed - Independence Museum closed - Alte Feste fort permanently closed - Trans Namib Railway Museum closed -Oshetu Community Market was open The guide however was excellent, very friendly and knowledgable about the city’s history. Unfortunately, discussing my experience with the operator was very disappointing. He absolutely refused to consider giving me a full or even partial refund. I told him in future to have the potential ‘Sunday closed’ issue on his tour information.
Great introduction to Windhoek with Ricky. Picked up on time and in a clean, comfortable car from the international airport. Went straight into a city and township tour, which was the perfect way to start my Namibian adventure. It was really valuable to hear more about Namibia's history and it's culture, and be shown the sites. We ended with a great tour and meal in the market, which was arguably the best food I had throughout my trip! Ricky was a brilliant host - taking his time to explain things with care and patience. I felt safe and relaxed the whole time. Would definitely recommend.
We did the city and township tour with Ricky as a family. Communication in advance was friendly and very cooperative. We were picked up on time at our accommodation. During the tour itself, the city center, the museum and finally the township were visited. The tour was very informative. Ricky has great historical knowledge and is extremely helpful and friendly. Visiting the market and Kapana-tasting was a very special experience for our family! Many thanks to Ricky!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
