The 3-day camping trip in sossusvlei with Chameleon Safaris was amazing! The group was different from what I would have thought in terms of nationality/age distribution, but it turned out perfectly and we had lots of fun together! The nature itself is the most impressive I have ever seen with the desert-dune-landscape in beautiful light. The itinerary is planned in a way to get the most out of the short time also considering the driving time in between, but still left some calm time in the afternoon where one could for example chill by the pool of the campsite. The setting with a hot meal coming from the fire in the evening, the campsite surrounded by nature and even an breakfast by the dunes one morning could come straight out of a book. Smithley was the best guide we could have asked for, very calm & nice with lots of knowledge and experience and own admiration and respect for the surroundings there. I will cherish those memories forever and would definitely recommend the trip!

I did the budget camping desert tour over 3 days and would 100% recommend it. The nature is breathtaking. Our guide, Smithley, was extremely accommodating, spoiled us with homemade food, and was helpful with every question. The activities in the desert are very well organized, and there’s also time to relax. It was no problem to split the group at times, so everyone could hike longer or shorter depending on their level. The campsite is beautifully located in nature; the sanitary facilities are clean and completely sufficient, and there’s even a pool on site for cooling off. The organization by Chameleon Tours worked excellently, including the airport shuttle, and they were also very helpful and uncomplicated when it came to additional activities or questions. The value for money is absolutely right, and the costs are justified for everything that’s included. Many thanks, Smithley!

I had a really good experience on this tour- I was with two other solo travellers who I didn't know but bonded with during this trip. Smithley was the guide and was very professional but also a fun guy to hang out with, made amazing dinners (even with vegetarian requirements) and gave good information about everything. There was a lot packed into the tour and it wasn't just driving around although there were some free time periods at the campsite. However I was impressed with the standard of the campsite and didn't realise it would have a full bar and restaurant! So you can have a cold beer in the afternoon heat which is nice. The canyon and Solitaire were unexpected bonus features. Smithley was also accommodating when in our group we decided not to hike certain dunes. The only small point I would say is that when doing the first dune hike we got lost, as I think we weren't expecting to be doing the hike on our own self-guided and we were not experienced hikers, and there wasn't much tips or advice concerning how it would be to hike up a sand dune. Dune 45 was straightforward as it was just straight up. Overall a top trip!

We had the best time on this tour!! The views were incredible, there was lots of space on the bus and many of the most famous viewpoints were not very busy since it is low season. Our guide, Smithlee, was the most good-natured, helpful and kind guide we’ve ever had. He also cooked great dinners! We learned so much, saw so much, and had the perfect balance of relaxation to amazing activities. I would recommend this tour to anyone, it’s a great amount of sights for the price.

This tour was an incredible experience. Everything was very well organized and throughout the entire journey we always felt well taken care of. Had an amazing 3 day tour with Smithley. He was an absolute superstar, and told us lots of great information regarding the surroundings. We had an amazing group, and the came away with new friends. The views were to die for, and since we’re camping within the national park, we get to experience the sunrise from dune 45, sunsets from elim dune and early morning views. Absolutely stunning views, and I had time to take photos that I am happy with. The food was good enough (especially dinners were nice), the tents and camp was super comfortable, and everything felt very well organized! They even sorted out to and from airport transfers!

On the three-day desert safari we visited many interesting and worth seeing places (Elim Dune, Dune 45, Big Daddy Dune, Deadvlei, Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon etc.). Our guide was friendly and helpful and gave a lot of information about each stop. In general, he was very chatty and outgoing, which was pleasant, just disturbing me at times while eating, but that may be a personal preference. The camp was a lovely place, the food our guide prepared well. Partly I would have liked a little more fresh fruit and vegetables. The bus was spacious, driving as pleasant as possible on the desert roads. The organization was overall good. In some places we had more time than necessary. An individual prior arrangement with the group or the possibility to contact the guide via mobile phone would have been helpful here. There were some misunderstandings during previous communication with Chameleon Safaris. The staff tried to clarify this retrospectively, but little cult. Overall, I still had a good time and would recommend the tour.
