Original itinerary was changed to replace Vitoria with Haro, but we believe Vitoria would have been a better location. Rioja and the rest of the tour was very good.
Excellent day out with Stephane, a knowledgable and articulate tour guide, clearly proud of his Basque heritage. We walked the historic quarter of Vitoria Gateiz and learned of Napoleonic times followed by, in our case, coffee and pintxos. We then visited Laguardia and learned of the origin of the tunnels where wine is stored, followed by a bodega visit and wine tasting. We were given a recommentation for lunch where my wife rated the pintxos the best she had tasted (see photos). All in all this was a very enjoyable tour and very good value.
Thank you for your comments and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed our tour.
The entire day trip was excellent. The day started with meeting at the Guggenheim Museum just before 9 and returning to the centre of Bilbao just after 5. Stephane, our tour guide was very informative, friendly & helpful. The first stop was in the beautiful town of Vitoria, where, after a short but very informative tour of the centre, a coffee and pintxos was enjoyed in the sun. Onwards then to the medevial town of Laguardia, where after another short tour inside the old town walls, we went to a small boutique wine cellar for a 2-glass wine tasting experience. Afterwards, based on Stephane's advice, we had a nice lunch of more coffee & pintxos. A final brief stop in the small town of Elciego to view the Hotel Marques de Riscla & visit their craft shop for a final refreshemnt before making our way back to Bilbao.
Excellent commentary by our tour guide Stephane Iriarte who was also our driver. His historical perspective and knowledge of the agriculture and industry of the area was fascinating. He was attentive to our needs and informative and was always ready to answer questions.
Comfortable small bus with excellent driver. The guide (Stephan?) was very friendly and had extensive knowledge of Vittoria, Laguradia and the Roja Region and spoke good english. Very interseting stop at Rioja winery and Celler in Laguardia. Ample time to have te lunch we wanted on our own choice in Laguardia. The excursinan was absolutely worth the money
Stefan, our tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and engaging with his group of tourists. He had a running joke of reasons to come back to the Bilbao/Vitoria region.
Thank you for your possitive comments. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed the tour.
Stephane provided us with background information to make our visit to each location more meaningful. He was friendly and knowledgeable and presented with a sense of humour as well. Stephane interacted with members of our group in a friendly, polite and helpful manner. He was very positive about the Rioja area and promoted all the sights we visited with enthusiasm. Would highly recommend Stephane for any other tours which he might lead.
The guide (Nestor?) was really helpful and explained the local sights and history really well. The winery I toured was awesome, super fun seeing a winery that's been running for centuries! Only thing I would change is possibly adding more tastings or towns to see along the way
Unpleasant weather spoiled the day to some extent. The tour of the winery was very good.vittoria did not have too much to offer.
Excellent tour with very knowledgeable host. Beautiful countryside. Visit to towns in the Rioja region were interesting. Highly recommend.
