Our accommodation was walking distance from the palace and we were admitted around 8:30 ( before the mass of people arrived) . You need to bring your passport as it is required a number of times during your visit as you pass from one area to another. Built in the 13th century, medieval Islamic palace with its striking moorish architecture, court of lions, stucco walls and its carved wooden ceilings is breathtaking. It must have been a wonderful summer residence with its lush terraced water features, various courtyards and panoramic views of Granada. We were as a group fortunate to have a tour guide who highlighted the various structures - and our visit took around 3 hours . The palace is a must for a visit took around Granada and admission tickets sell out quickly - do book on-line to avoid disappointment.
It is one of the must-see sites. Picturesque promontory and magnificent Arab-Muslim architecture. All of this in a stroll through a lushly beautiful garden.
Amazing experience! Worth the time and braving the crowds to see. We had a tour guide and that made all the difference. Don’t know how you could appreciate the many things about the Alhambra without an educated person showing you around. It was hot. It was crowded. And it was amazing!!
Andy was able to transport us with his historical knowledge to the heart of the Alhambra, an exceptional guide due to his good humor, attentiveness, and professionalism.
We visited a few years ago and couldn't get into the palaces, so we specifically returned with that objective. Surprisingly, whilst absolutely beautiful, you can't really appreciate the splendor because of the vast number of people milling through the palaces and hogging prime spots to get their selfies or Instagram shots. The photos taken when the palaces are empty by professional photographers are the best. That said, this is still a wonderful place to visit. The gardens are beautifully kept and less crowded than the palaces. At the height of the tourist season, this must be a nightmare to visit so plan your visit accordingly. Book well in advance.
We bought the ticket in advance and at the entrance there were guides offering the services of “guided visit”, which was very worthwhile. We paid 30 euros per person in a group of 6. We had a map, but still having the follow-up helped us optimize the time, in addition to having the accurate information about each point. Reserve at least 4 hours for the tour.
My wife and I did the private guided Alhambra tour. We booked the guide directly at website. Email- info@alhambratours.com First you need to purchase your tickets from the only legitimate seller https//tickets.alhambra-patronato.es The type of ticket is "Alhambra general ", pick a suitable time to visit. Do it ASAP as tickets runs out fast. Margarita was excellent. It was about 3 hours tour. Would strongly recommend using them to visit the Alhambra.
Being a bit of a spur-of-the-moment traveler, I missed the three-month-out ticket purchase window and had to do this the (very) expensive way, with a guide. She was personable, funny, very knowledgeable (masters in comparative religion, very useful here). But…. very expensive. Next time I will book early and get the audio guide, ALWAYS through the official website. And there WILL be a next time, it is a World Heritage site for good reason.
It is a magical experience, a wonder like no other in the world. Every corner is worth it.
The Alhambra completely exceeded expectations. Every courtyard, mosaic, and carved archway feels like a work of art. The Nasrid Palaces were especially impressive, with incredible detail everywhere you look. The Generalife gardens were peaceful and offered beautiful views over Granada. Arriving early helped avoid the biggest crowds and made the experience much more enjoyable. Easily one of the most memorable landmarks in Spain.
