We took a Nighttime tour with Darin in the GEM vehicle and had such a great time that we booked a Bonaventure Cemetery tour a couple of days later! Darin made us feel like we were just spending time with a friend who knew a whole lot about Savannah and her stories! It was perfect both tours and we had a marvelous time. Being picked up downtown was very convenient as well. The vehicle was comfy and breezy and Darin had water for us as well as fans, if needed. Highly recommend!
The tour was really interesting. Our guide Renee was so knowledgeable and personable. The info allowed me to learn so much about the graves, gravestones and people buried there. I’m really glad I did the tour!
Booked a tour with Savannah Cruzers, and had Sarah as our tour guide. She was very kind and accommodating, if not a bit hurried and somewhat flustered. Unfortunately the tour felt too rushed. The info was good, although pretty general (in her words, “Bonaventure 101”). To be expected I guess, for an hour long tour of a 103 acre cemetery. Despite wanting to ask more questions throughout, we were swiftly moving on to each new site, so time just does not allow for inquiry or thoughtful conversation (not her fault). Rather it sounded well scripted from beginning to end. Early on I was handed a reading book on symbols and felt that was quite humorous, and odd, for a quick tour (it was not opened or used). Along the way, she provided a few well-loved laminated print-outs that illustrated the verbal script, which was helpful (and better than a book). Water bottles were thoughtfully offered at the start. Overall, we chose this company because we were not sure we wanted to battle the heat on foot with kids, and felt we could see more on 4 wheels. You do cover more ground, but the tradeoff is less time (only an hour), and discussion. A 1.5 hour tour might be perfect to allow the tour guide a breath. Getting out of the cart for a closer view is not encouraged (although she did allow it once). If you want more in-depth info at a relaxed and leisurely pace to really soak in the beautiful grounds, or learn more about the famous people buried in Bonaventure, I would opt for the longer walking tours. The carts are nice in the heat, no doubt, but just felt too fast-paced to me. It was a fun, quick (and easy) way to visit Bonaventure in the summer heat, and not a bad value for price, just left me wanting more - so decide what you want out of the tour before choosing a company.
Thank you so much for this review and for the kind words about Sarah. She'll be glad to hear it. One thing I'd love to clarify: our tours are actually designed around the idea to give you as rich and full a picture of Bonaventure as we can in that hour, so you leave with real context and knowledge of the grounds — and then the time and freedom to wander back on your own to whatever caught your eye, at your own pace, without the heat or the clock working against you. Many walking tours run 2+ hours straight through, which is a lot to ask in Savannah summer heat, especially with kids. We built our format to give you the story first, then hand the experience back to you. That said, I hear you on wanting more room to pause, ask questions, and sit with a particular story or site during the tour itself — that's genuinely useful feedback, and something I will be addressing with your entire team moving forward. We're glad we could give you a comfortable, informative first look at Bonaventure, and we'd love to have you back sometime for a deeper dive. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a fair and detailed review for other visitors.
Connie was our guide and she was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this tour
We love Connie! Thank you so much for your kind words, and your recommendation of our tour! We hope to see you back again soon.
The guide was very knowledgeable. Using the golf cart is the way to go through the graveyard. The history and stories were amazing. Being close to the river and outdoors make sure you spray a bit of bug spray to keep the no-see-ums away.
We may be biased, but we agree with you about the golf carts. It really is the best way to get around and see the cemetery. On top of the best mode of transportation, our history guides are the best in the business. Thank you for taking time out to write us about your experience. We look forward to seeing you again on your next visit!
Great experience and Tim our guide was an absolute gentleman! Very interesting talk and some great little stories from Tim
Frank, thank you for taking the time to let us know how your tour went! We love that you chose us as your opportunity to visit Bonaventure. Tim really is a gentleman, and we are proud to call him ours. We hope that we see you back again soon!
So much history here! Our guide Connie was amazing! She knew everything about the families and told it with such passion! I definitely recommend going and visiting!
You said it all right there! Connie is amazing. She's so passionate about Bonaventure and the residents who are there in rest. We appreciate your kind words so much. Next time you are in town, come see us again!
We did this tour this morning with Darren. We all four thoroughly enjoyed it! Darren was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and personable. He gave us all a bottle of water and even had a little fan for me to use. He was so nice to us and said he wished all of his tours could be with us. He’s an excellent guide. I recommend this tour!
You hit the lotto with a Darin tour! He's such an easy-going host. We are thrilled that you had such a positive experience in our favorite little cemetery. Thank you for your kind words, and come back soon now, ya hear!
Nancy was very informative! She gave a great tour of a really large place. It was really a beautiful and peaceful place. Nancy made it come alive in terms of how people used their family plots and how they visited family there. She shared historically significant information and was very knowledgeable. She was open to everyone’s questions and encouraged us to ask.
Nancy is the best! She's so passionate about the history and it shows through every tour she leads. We are honored you chose us! We look forward to your next tour!
Connie was well informed and so pleasant. The Cemetery is big and we are avid walkers but we’re glad to do the tour. You can walk afterwards or go down to the river. You learn a lot from tour guides
Kathleen, we absolutely agree with you about combining the tour with your own walk. Our tours are designed to get you familiar with the cemetery and her history, and after you get to explore on your own as much as you like! Connie really is such a ray of light, and we are happy you had the opportunity to explore with her.
