La plaza Jemaa el-Fna es la principal atracción de la ciudad, es uno de los principales espacios culturales de Marrakech y se ha convertido en uno de los símbolos de la ciudad desde su fundación en el siglo XI. Representa una concentración única de tradiciones culturales populares marroquíes realizadas a través de expresiones musicales, religiosas y artísticas. Durante todo el día y hasta bien entrada la noche, se ofrecen una variedad de servicios, como cuidado dental, medicina tradicional, adivinación, predicación y tatuaje de henna; acarreo de agua, fruta y comida tradicional. Además, uno puede disfrutar de muchas actuaciones de narradores, poetas, músicos bereberes (Imazighen), bailarines de Gnaoua.
La mezquita de Koutoubia es uno de los monumentos más impresionantes de Marrakech y una de las mezquitas más bellas de Marruecos. Marcado por una historia compleja; en realidad es un santuario doble con un minarete. La primera Koutoubia fue inaugurada en 1157 y la segunda y el minarete fueron construidos un año después por orden de Abdelmoumen. Los dos santuarios se distinguen por su innovador plan que le da una importancia capital a la pared de la qibla (orientación de la oración). Marcando el paisaje de su presencia, el minarete levantado en piedra, con una altura de 77 m, permite el uso de una rampa para llegar a su cumbre. Una decoración sobria compuesta por relieves tallados y registros de blanco y verde
El Palacio de Bahía es un edificio del siglo XIX, que consta de habitaciones decoradas con impresionantes estucos, pinturas y mosaicos palacio y un conjunto de jardines. El Palacio de Bahía estaba destinado a ser el palacio más grande de su tiempo. El nombre del Palacio de Bahía significa en árabe “brillantez”. Como en otros edificios de la época en otros países, se pretendía captar la esencia del estilo islámico y marroquí. Hay un jardín de 2 acres (8.000 m2) con habitaciones que dan a patios en el Palacio de Bahía. El Palacio de Bahía fue establecido a finales del siglo XIX por Si Moussa, gran visir del sultán, para su uso personal, el palacio de Bahía llevaría el nombre de una de sus esposas. Aquí, el harén, que incluye un vasto patio decorado con una cuenca central y rodeado de habitaciones destinadas a las concubinas. A medida que el esclavo negro Abu Ahmed subió al poder y la riqueza hacia finales del siglo XIX, hizo construir el palacio de Bahía trayendo artesanos de Fez. La Madrasa Ben Youssef es uno de los iconos más grandes y hermosos de la arquitectura andaluza-bereber en Marruecos. Fundada por el sultán Abou al Hasan en el siglo XIV, fue reconstruida y enriquecida posteriormente por la dinastía Saadi. El resultado es el monumento aún más extravagantemente decorado que se encuentra junto a la mezquita Ben Youssef en Marrakech. Ahora un museo, la antigua madrasa tiene 130 celdas construidas para acomodar a los casi 900 estudiantes que estudiaron el Corán y otras ciencias y temas religiosos aquí. Este es un lugar que vale la pena visitar si desea entender la cultura árabe y la religión islámica.

This was a great tour. We saw all of major sites and souks in the Medina. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He even got us into a rooftop restaurant that we couldn’t get in. I would definitely recommend this tour to everybody.

Ahmed was well versed with the history of Morocco. We liked that he gave us the option of the places we wanted to visit and we were able to skip the queue as he was an official tour guide. We learned about the origin of the words and the cultural changes over the past dynasties up until the most recent updates with the architecture and politics. We also got guidance with navigation within the souks by showing us how it used to be categorised. He helped us take photos as we go along our tour and finally lead us to a reasonably priced restaurant within the city square.

The tour was educational and informative. Tour guide Said is very knowledgeable. He thoroughly guided us through the maze-like alleys and was able to help with shopping for original items vs knock-offs. Clarification is needed on entry fees to the historical sites. While booking app indicated entry tickets were included in the tours, it turns out clients have to pay admission fees in some places. Otherwise, it was good morning tour to set the pace for the rest of the day. Beware of the usual tourist traps where clients are ushered into rest places where it turns into unexpected shopping up sells.
