Incredible Sahara experience

The experience was amazing!!! Abdul and Siad were both incredible, they made the tour super enjoyable and fun and were very helpful and flexible… the desert was a once in a lifetime experience and the stops along the way were extremely enjoyable and gave you a look into beber lifestyle and culture. Definitely bring lots of cash, as we kept running out and most places didn’t take card. I would recommend this tour to anybody and would love to come back and do it again.

Best Merzouga Experience w/ Said and Abdul

Overall the is one of my best solo trip. I cannot recommend highly enough, Said and Abdul for doing a great job from picking us up, driving us safe, showing us around the area, to our way to Merzouga Desert. The experience with our camp is amazing, we did a camel rides, we got a good rooms, and did sand boarding, sing and dance in the camp fire, it’s an escape from a busy life in America. And meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and ages, how awesome it that. I highly suggest at least to experience this kind of desert camping experience with Said and Abdul. Great job and Shukran!

Incredible Dunes are worth the drive

If you have time and want to see “the real” Sahara sand dunes - the longer trip to Merzouga truly is the best option. There were about 18 people total on our tour. The drive from Marrakech is undeniably long, though the tour company worked hard to break the drive to Merzouga up into culturally interesting stops (with opportunities to buy argan oil, “magic” paintings, and rugs) so we weren’t just sitting in a car for endless hours. Our favorite stop was the walking tour of the palm grove. The hotel we stayed at was a little rough. (The bathroom faucet would not turn off - which you think they’d want to address in the desert. There was a pervasive and strong sewer smell in our room. The mattresses felt like a few blankets over a plank of wood.) Once in Merzouga we left our bigger luggage and took only what was needed for an overnight stay. We mounted our camels and were led caravan style on a 1-1.5 hrs ride into the dunes - which was truly magical. Though we stayed in a tent, the camp area is well established… we definitely weren’t “roughing it.” The following morning we rode our camels back to the point of origin. We had the option to pay extra for 4-wheelers if we wanted- but stuck with our camels. During the drive back we only stopped for bathroom breaks and lunch- so it was admittedly rough. We were definitely ready to be out of the van! We are vegetarian and were grateful that food without meat was made available throughout. Most meals were buffet style and had a fixed price of 120-140 MAD. Non-meat protein was served at breakfast (hard boiled egg) and at one meal (beans and lentils were offered…and were delicious!) If you are vegetarian I suggest bringing a few protein bars. I wish we had. Our guide, Hassan, was fantastic. He was warm, energetic, worked hard to make everyone feel included and ensured people were having fun. His English (and Spanish, French, and Arabic) was impeccable and he always clearly communicated the plans to us so we would know what was happening. Were I to do things over - I’d look for a tour that allowed for another day in the desert (one overnight just wasn’t enough!) and I’d probably find a tour that either ended in a city other than Marrakech, if that was an option, or a tour that had different stops on the return trip. (The 10hrs drive back was pretty miserable…. But this is not the fault of the tour company.)

Dessert tour

This tour was fun. It’s a long drive, but the time flies thanks to the many stops where you can see or do things. The atmosphere was lively, thanks to our guide, Charaf; he even got the whole bus singing. The hotel had a nice pool, and the desert scenery is impressive. Don't forget to bring plenty of drinks, though you can also buy them at the stops along the way. I would recommend it.
