El Gran Monasterio de Meteorón es el más grande y antiguo de todos. Fue llamado el monasterio que fue "suspendido en el aire" (meteoro), debido a la formación de la roca gigantesca sobre la cual se construyó. El gran monasterio de Meteoro fue fundado por San Atanasio, el meteorito, que fue el primer fundador del monasterio y organizador de la sistemática koenovion. Por este motivo, la fundación de este monasterio se considera un punto de inflexión, o incluso mejor, el comienzo del monastismo organizado en la Santa Meteora. Hosios Athanasios nació alrededor de 1302 en la ciudad medieval de New Patras, hoy Hypati y su nombre de laico era Andronikos.
El Santo Monasterio de Varlaam es el segundo monasterio más grande. Está ubicado frente al Gran Monasterio de Meteoro y fue fundado a mediados del siglo XIV por el ejercitante Hosios Varlaam. El elegante monasterio Catholicon fue construido en honor de Agioi Pantes en 1541-42, por dos hermanos de Ioannina, los monjes sacerdotes Hosioi Theophanes y Nectarios the Apsarades. La iglesia principal fue decorada en 1548. Basada en criterios estilísticos, esta magnífica pintura mural se atribuye al famoso hagiógrafo de Tebas, Frago Catelano.
El Monasterio de la Santísima Trinidad (Agia Triada) es el más difícil de alcanzar, pero una vez que llegas a la cima, ¡la vista panorámica de los alrededores es simplemente cautivadora! Este monasterio está muy cerca del Convento de San Esteban y se alza sobre una roca escarpada y magnífica. Ya había sido organizado Monasterio desde el año 1362 como se indica en un documento de Symeon Uressis Palaeologos. El Santo Monasterio de San Nicolás de Anapafsas es el primer Monasterio que encontramos en nuestro camino hacia la Santa Meteora y se fundó a fines del siglo XIV. Para el nombre de Anapafsas hay numerosas interpretaciones, dos de las cuales son las más populares. La primera es que el nombre Anapafsas fue atribuido por uno de los benefactores del monasterio, mientras que la segunda explicación tiene que ver con que la posición del monasterio fue la primera que se encontró en el camino y probablemente sirvió a los peregrinos y otros visitantes como descanso. Despite it being a long day (4 hours each way and 14.5 hours overall), I thoroughly recommend doing this trip. The views of the monasteries on top of the rock formations are breathtaking. The guide was informative, the coach comfortable and the lunch was good.

This tour was everything we needed. Comfortable transportation, safe driver and excellent guide. Plenty of stops and time to take wonderful photo oppertunities. Lunch and Dinner breaks were adequate, although the food and service was mediocre, and to be expected when dealing with large coach numbers, throughput was the main objective of the restaurant. Ordering the food ahead of time was seamless. 10 hours of driving time to consider when booking this trip but the endpoint was worth the drive.

Very organised from the beginning. Easy meeting spot. Comfortable bus. Great place to stop for bathroom and snacks. Guide in Meteora was awesome. Well done Dimitris!! Dinner at Camino was beautiful!! Sunset over the beach. Pre ordering was an easy service, much recommended. Would definitely recommend the day. Get your walking shoes on. Walk up to first monastery was intense!

Most wonderful long day The trip was well organized and provided several stops for pictures. Also made rest stops for brunch, lunch & dinner (food not included). Guide was most excellent. Experience was excellent, length of visit was appropriate and comfortable. crowd size was suitable to our needs, Katarina was excellent in her interactions with all of us, and she was knowledgable about rock formation, caves and monsteries.
