The guys who showed us around were superb so informative really made the experience so worth while.

Fantastic short stop on the road. David our guide was fantastic. Great with children's stories. So animated and fun while giving us the history of the caves. Highly recommended
I highly recommend a visit to Laugarvatnshellar. The tours, led by two brothers, are both informative and engaging. They provide insight into the challenges of life in Iceland, offer a taste of local folklore, and present the opportunity to sample Brennevin and/or hákarl (fermented shark). Additionally, the surrounding landscape is quite impressive, offering excellent photographic opportunities and notable examples of pillow lava. Furthermore, this location is conveniently situated along the Golden Circle route.
Very interesting and the guide's explanations were very good.
Today we met our Guide Olive. She has such a lovely kind to tell us the story of this secret place.
The guides were truly the light of this experience! The gentleman we had was so funny and had many interesting stories. We were probably there for an hour, and our group was small enough that everyone fit into the house with room to look around. It is a bit of a drive, and a small hill climb up to the house, but I found it fascinating and well worth the visit.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We truly appreciate your feedback. I am glad that you liked your visit, the caves and the unique drive to the caves of Laugarvatn :) Best regards, Alexander, Owner of Caves of Laugarvatn
We didn't book a tour in advance—we simply showed up hoping it would be worth a stop. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our day. Our guide, David, was fantastic. His storytelling truly brought the history of the cave to life. He shared fascinating stories about the last family who lived in the cave homes, the surrounding area, and even Icelandic folklore about elves. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and made it easy to imagine what life was like there many years ago. The cave itself is unique and beautiful—unlike anything we've ever seen. If you're exploring the Golden Circle, we highly recommend making a stop here. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience Iceland's local history, culture, and traditions in a memorable way. Thank you, David, for such an educational and enjoyable visit!
Thanks a lot for the visit I am so glad that the visit to the caves were one of the highlights of your day during your golden circle route :) Thank you for your kind words about the guide. We are pleased to hear that the stories and explanations helped make your visit memorable. Best regards Alexander, Owner Of Caves Of Laugarvatn
Definitely worths stopping off for! Really cool bit of history to see and is set up so well. The guys who own it are really friendly and knowledgeable. There is fermented shark and Icelandic alcohol available for additional cost and free coffee.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for your warm words. We truly appreciate your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed tasting the fermented shark and washing it down with a shot of Brennivín, Iceland's signature spirit, also known as "Black Death." Best regards, Alexander, Owner of Caves of Laugarvatn
Discovered by chance, this place is definitely worth a visit. You discover the history of some families from the 1900s who lived in this house in the rock. David, whom we met there, guided us through an unusual experience off the tourist paths. It truly deserves it!
Thank you for your kind review and the lovely photos. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the Caves of Laugarvatn, off the tourist path but still in the Golden circle. Best regards, Alexander, Owner of Caves of Laugarvatn
The two brothers who own and run the caves are friendly, enthusiastic and just great to talk to. The caves are a little off the beaten track and all the better for it. We had plenty of time to talk about the venue with them, tried some of their home grown rhubarb, and also explored some of the are that they are still investigating. A great local business and we enjoyed it a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for the photos. We truly appreciate your feedback. It was also so nice to meet you :) Best regards, Brothers, Alexander and Kristófer
