This tapas tour through the Old Town and Albaicin was such a great introduction to Granada. Carlos clearly knew the area inside out, leading us through narrow winding streets and hidden squares we never would have found on our own. We stopped at several local spots, each with their own specialty, and it was a nice mix of classic Andalusian tapas alongside a few more unexpected bites. Getting a drink included with each tapa was a nice touch too, and portion sizes meant we left properly full rather than needing dinner after.
This tour operator “Not Just a Tourist” gets very nice reviews here on Trip Advisor, and it is possible our experience was unusual. But our tapas tour from Granada’s Old Town to Albaicin was not remotely worth the $328 cost. The description sounded great - a choice of hummus, croquettes, local tomatoes and avocados - etc, three drinks and a dessert, along with a panoramic walking tour of Albaicin and tales of the city’s historic past. Our reality: we stopped at three bars, had three drinks and tapas, no walking tour of Albacin, no panoramic views, and no dessert. If we’d done it ourselves, it would have cost maybe $75 euros for the tapas and wine. Our guide was a sweet person with whom we enjoyed chatting. The problem is that the cost of this was way out of line with the actual experience. (We had a much better tapas tour in Sevilla run by a different group called Devour for 208 euros. There, along with several other couples, we stopped at terrific local cafes with a guide who really knew the area and carefully planned each step). Our experience on this Granada tour was perhaps unusual. My advice is to look very closely at the options for these tours, and call the operator to be sure you are getting what you are paying for — an evening guided tour of this remarkable Albaicin area. Or just bar hop yourself and walk around — for hundreds less.
We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the tapas tour. Could you please reach out to us with your name and booking date so we can look into what happened? Unlike other companies, we keep our tours private or very small group so the guide can dedicate their full attention to our guests and tailor the experience to their needs and preferences and there is a lot of flexibility to adapt the tour to what our guests need- which makes it all the more important for us to understand where things fell short. Looking forward to hearing from you.
A fun experience with a local guide. Excellent drinks & tapas with local scenery & history during our walk through beautiful Granada
I did not take this tour; however we went to Granada and visited the Alhambra and the Granada Fair. The trip is a success. We will gladly return!!
Katia was an interesting and knowledgeable host. She introduced us to different wines of Spain which we had with food at 3 venues. She also introduced us to different olive oils so the evening was informative but also fun as we got to know the rest of the group. We had a great evening enjoying the company and expertise of Katia.
Our Grenada Tapas Tour was the highlight of our trip. Did a tapas tour with the company ‘Not Just a Tourist’. Miguel Girona was our guide. He was fabulous! We had so much fun and the places he took us to amazing. Miguel also shared a lot of history and was knowledgeable about each if the places we visited. I highly recommend this tour with this company. Wonderful
Awesome food. Our guide took us to some great local bars. We had a nice little walk and ate some great food.
The guide Jose was really knowledgeable. Was worthy to walk with him around the city, he showed us much more than what we could expect. Only i can say that was not a tapas tour... we didn't learn or try tapas only chips and cheese. That was sad for us because we were having a big expectation about traditional Spanish tapas.
Hi Gaby, I am glad you enjoyed the tour with us. I am very sorry if the tapas were not fine. We would have loved you to enjoy the variety of tapas we have in Granada but as you might have notices Spain is not always adapted to vegetarians and we did not know about your special requirements before the tour. It will help if you mention that at the time of booking so we can be prepared. Also, as your tour was on the biggest national holiday in Spain most palaces were either closed or full and finding vegetarian options on a last minute basis was very hard. Sorry about that. We hope to have you back and make up for it going on a feast of Vegetarian Spanish tapas.
Clara was amazing….so sweet, knowledgeable and accommodating! We loved walking around the city with her and hearing about everything from a local’s perspective ❤️
Book now! We have done many food tours when traveling and these people are extra special. Not only was the owner, Mahsa very accommodating and nice when we missed our connecting flight and missed part of the tour, but She was very sympathetic and made it her business to get us a tour the next day! But that just had set the tone for the actual tour the next day with Rachel & Simo. They were charming , friendly and very personable. They are very knowledgeable about Granada but were also worldly in discussing other cultures and traditions relative to the area to give a more worldly perspective. They took us around Granada and showed us many interesting places , and we had scrumptious pasteries while sitting in a locally authentic cafe amidst beautiful view of the Alhambra. This was just one of the few of many great stops we made along the way . Great accommodating company, wonderful charming and helpful ( sent us lots more information on the the topics we discussed after) tour guides, delicious food amongst the beautiful setting of Granada! What more can you ask for?
Thanks a lot Kerline for your wonderful review. I am very glad this all worked out and we could make up a little bit for what you went through with your flights. I hope you could sort it out too and the trip will be amazing.
