Got back to the port with plenty of time to get back to the ship. Olga was great and told us a lot of good details about the area we were in. After a short bus drive and a guided audio tour we got some time to explore on our own. Very easy to navigate and no issues finding the meeting point after the independent explore time. There are multiple stops so you get a very well rounded experience. Our family of 8 attended with a senior, 4 adults and 3 children and we all enjoyed it. The bus is a little farther than where the typical excursions leave from. Approximately a 5 minute walk from the boat.
My partner and I were looking for something simple and enjoyable, and this fit perfectly. The surroundings were beautiful, and we had enough time to take everything in without feeling rushed. It made for a really pleasant day together.
Visited with a group of friends and this turned out to be a great way to experience the area. We managed to see the key spots while still having time to relax and chat. It didn’t feel overly structured, which we appreciated. Would definitely recommend for small groups.
Visited with family and found this to be a good balance of activity and downtime. Everyone found something they enjoyed, and the day didn’t feel tiring. It’s a nice option if you’re traveling with mixed age groups.
This was exactly what we were hoping for as a couple—nothing too busy, just a relaxed experience. We enjoyed walking around and taking in the views at our own pace. Sometimes simple really is better.
Went with a few friends and really liked how flexible everything felt. We could take our time, stop when we wanted, and just enjoy the surroundings. It didn’t feel rushed or overly planned.
Disorganized; didn’t pick up at the ship; bus was late. Supposed to leave at 8:00; changed to 8:30-8:45. Didn’t actually leave until 9:00. Tour guide was apologetic about the situation and knowledgeable about the city. Tour itself was excellent.
Thank you for your kind words about the tour and the guide. Please note that the “Meeting and Pickup” section of the tour description clearly states that pickup starts 30 minutes before the tour departure. If you do not feel comfortable waiting for your fellow cruisers during disembarkation and pickup, we strongly recommend considering a private tour rather than a shared tour. When booking future activities via Viator, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the tour description rather than on personal assumptions and ambitions. Please also understand the need to respect other participants when booking shared tours. Safe travels!
It's extremely rare I write a poor review and even more rare I ask for a refund, but I'm doing both with this tour. The title says "cruise-friendly, hassle-free" and I found it to be anything but. The wording of the communication before the tour told everyone that they would be picked up at their boat. The problem was that the tour did NOT come to your boat, they expected you to walk out to the pier. That is perfectly reasonable and understandable IF it's clearly communicated, which it was not. The entire group (a full large tour bus full of people) read the instructions the same as me, either sitting and waiting or wandering around trying to find the guides. It was a really bad start, especially for an older couple that had difficulty making the 1 km walk to the bus (when they, too, believed the tour was picking them up right at the boat). We started approximately one hour late due to this scenario. The trip up to Aix-en-Provence was very nice, although in hindsight, I'm not sure why the entire tour wasn't in Marseille itself, as there is plenty to see just in Marseille. But do know half of the day is spent driving up to Aix-en-Provence, which is 45 minutes away from the dock. The sights in Marseille were also very nice, although it felt rushed, partially due to the late start. The final stop was 'supposed' to be Notre Dame, even though the tour guides were already cutting the time way too close for my cruise departure. I mentioned this to the guide two times, she assured me we'd be back by 3 (my gate closed at 3:30). This is where things went really sideways.... On the way up to Notre Dame, which is a one way in / one way out road, the bus got stuck behind a stalled car. Traffic was backed up behind us and there was no timeframe for when we could pass through. I will give the guides credit; they were trying to figure out what to do, as the bus had no where to go and could not turn around. However, I had no margin for error at this point, so I bailed off the bus to try and get myself back to the ship. Due to the traffic backup, I needed to take a Lime scooter back down the hill (in the pouring rain), locate a parking spot for the scooter, then try and get an Uber. I was very lucky that everything came together and my uber driver drove like a maniac. I made it to the gate at 3:25. I do not think this situation happened with any sort of intent, but it was really a disaster. I only hope the others made it back to their ships, I made a quick decision to get off immediately rather than sit in stalled traffic.
Thank you for your rare feedback. We regret to hear about your disappointment. Please allow us to address the concerns raised: 1. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the heavy traffic due to a car accident in front of our bus, which was fully beyond our control. Thank you for mentioning the efforts of our team. However, there was no need to leave the group, as we guaranteed a timely return and brought all of your fellow cruisers back to the ship on time. As you can see, your feedback is the only negative one received from the entire group of 22 group members. 2. Please note that, according to the bus GPS records, all sites mentioned in the tour itinerary were covered. 3. This tour includes pickup from the pier; however, departure takes place from the bus parking area designated by the port authorities for all independent tours, located within walking distance from the pier. 4. Please note that the tour description clearly states that this tour is not wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for people with limited walking ability. 5. Pickup process takes 30 min in full accordance with “Meeting and Pickup” section of the tour description. If you do not wish to wait for your fellow cruisers during disembarkation, we strongly recommend booking a private tour instead of a shared experience. 6. In rainy weather, we use umbrellas and highly recommend this simple and practical tool for protection from the rain. 7. Please describe only your own experience and do not speak on behalf of others unless you officially represent them. When booking future activities via TripAdvisor, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the tour description rather than on personal assumptions. As for your concern about getting back to the ship on time, this is a very typical concern for new cruisers. With more cruising experience, you may feel more comfortable, especially when a timely return to the ship is guaranteed. Safe travels!
Our family really enjoyed Marseille. The highlight was Notre-Dame de la Garde with its incredible views. Walking through the city streets and exploring at a comfortable pace made the day easy and memorable for everyone.
As a solo traveler, this tour worked perfectly. The van was comfortable, the guide was helpful, and I got to see the best of Marseille efficiently. The panoramic views and charming streets made it a very enjoyable day.
