This tour was a variation of the Real Meal tour I had completed the day before and then made arrangements with Bondabu. The folks at Bondabu are very flexible and accommodating as I had read about the special neighborhoods off the tourist areas and wanted to see more. They were quite open to tailoring another tour. The regular Real Meal was excellent and my general comments about the food and guide apply to both tours. This tailored mid day Real Meal tour began in the working class neighborhood of Tacubaya. Similar to the regular Real Meal tour, the tour was definitely off the tourist areas as I have been to CDMX at least six different times and never been here or to the last visited neighborhood of Narvarte. I saw very few tourists, only locals at every food or coffee stop each day. The food offerings at each stop were delicious and included tlayudas and tacos with your choice of fillings. My tour guide Pablo is a gem; fun, friendly and informative with superior knowledge of the history of the neighborhoods and Mexico. He speaks excellent English. I was able to show him how to play the NYT puzzle “wordle” at one of the stops. We got it in 6. He was quite flexible as I was very interested in the art deco architecture in Narvarte and he happily showed me some of the classic art deco buildings. Both tours, the regular Real Meal tour and my tailored tour, were very safe tours worth repeating with Bondabu and Pablo, who is one of the best.

The tour was made excellent by the enthusiasm and knowledge of Ernesto. A chef, ex restaurateur and street food guru. The tour over a three hour period was a diverse cultural experience of food from all over Mexico at stalls around the Market areas close Alameda Park. Bonabu offers a broad selection of tours in Mexico City. I imagine they will all be great. Book soon to have the full Ernesto experience before he switches to Quito in Ecuador as the seasons move on. Bondabu offers one of the best food tours in Mexico City. We joined a street food tour in CDMX and were blown away by the quality, the storytelling, and the food. We visited taco stands, local markets, and hidden spots in Centro Historico and la Merced, tasting tacos, street snacks, and drinks along the way. What really stood out was how thoughtful the experience felt. The guide clearly knows the city, the vendors, and the culture, and the tour moved at a great pace. It felt like being shown around by a local friend. If you’re searching for a Mexico City food tour, a night taco tour, or an authentic way to experience CDMX beyond the usual tourist spots, Bondabu is an excellent choice.

We really enjoyed our time sampling tasty Mexican street food with our guide Fernando.
