An Unforgettable, Culinary Journey!

If you are looking for an authentic, deep dive into Panamanian cuisine, you absolutely MUST book this tour with Paradox Experience. It was hands down the highlight of our trip to Panama City! Jonathan and Elena are phenomenal guides. They are profoundly passionate about food, and equally passionate about their culture, which shines through in every single second of the tour. What makes this so special is that the tour is a beautiful tribute dedicated to Jonathan’s grandmother. They structured the experience to mirror a day in her life, taking us from her early morning market shopping all the way to the dinner table. Connecting the history of the dishes to Jonathan's family heritage added a layer of emotion and intimacy that you just don't get on regular city tours. And as the title promises, the tastings are incredible and so abundant! We left not only completely full, but with a deep respect and appreciation for Panama's rich culinary roots. Thank you, Jonathan and Elena, for welcoming us into your history, your hearts, and your traditions. This is an absolute must-do for any foodie visiting Panama!

You can go to a fancy restaurant or sample "real" Panamanian food

This was more than a food tasting tour. I'd been to Panama city three times and never had an experience like this.

Unforgettable - a ‘must do’ in Panama City

I’ve done food tours all over the world, but this was something completely different. The food was fantastic, but honestly, this tour is so much more than a food tour. It’s a beautiful, moving journey through the history of Panama City, its people, and its neighbourhoods. I came expecting great food and left feeling like I had gained a much deeper understanding of the city and the challenges, resilience, and stories that have shaped it. The guides were some of the best I’ve ever encountered. Their passion for Panama is infectious, and they have an incredible ability to weave together history, politics, culture, and personal stories in a way that is engaging, thoughtful, and never feels like a lecture. You can tell they genuinely care about the communities they work with and the stories they are telling. What also stood out was the commitment to supporting local, grassroots producers. Every stop felt meaningful, and it was clear that this tour is making a positive impact in the communities it visits. The food was delicious, but the stories were what stayed with me. There were moments that were genuinely emotional, and by the end several people in our group were in tears. I certainly wasn’t expecting a food tour to move me in that way. This was one of the most memorable experiences of my time in Panama. If you want to understand the heart and soul of this city, don’t miss it.

This is the food tour you CANNOT miss!!!

I cannot recommend this experience enough. Not only did they think of everything and plan this trip meticulously, they took us waaay off the typical path of food tours. We didn't even go into Casco Viejo, we went to the really places that Panamanians eat. Including street food in their own neighborhoods. It was incredible. We went back to as many spots as we could and ate over and over again- we even brought food back to the states! PLEASE if you're looking for a food tour-choose this one!

Tasting and culture

End of the day, this is a tasting tour and I emphasize this. Very small bites, keep this in mind. My husband and I have done many many food tours and this is a tasting tour. Unfortunately neither of us were full at the end. However you do learn A LOT which is really interesting, we liked this tour because you learned so much about the country and specifically the communities. The tour supports the local communities and shows you the real lives of people who live here and grew up here, not the fancy extrañerjo side, which we loved. Each bite was good, wish there were slightly bigger bites but they do not pretend to be more than what they are. I would recommend this tour, but perhaps have an idea for dinner after just in case you aren't full.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for recognizing the cultural and community-focused side of the tour. One of the main goals of this experience is to support local vendors, family-owned businesses, and neighborhood markets by introducing visitors to the flavors they offer. The idea is not only to sample these foods during the tour, but also to inspire guests to return and continue supporting these businesses on their own. In fact, we were delighted to run into people from the same tour at San Felipe Neri Market the following day, enjoying larger portions of dishes and revisiting some of the flavors you had discovered during the experience. To us, that is a wonderful example of the tour fulfilling its purpose: creating a connection between travelers and local businesses that extends beyond the tour itself. Regarding the portion sizes, they have been carefully curated and adjusted throughout the year based on the experience of hundreds of guests. During the tour, participants sample more than 30 different flavors, drinks, ingredients, and traditional dishes from multiple neighborhoods, markets, and family-owned vendors. On your tour, guests enjoyed: • 3 different ceviches • 7 different fresh juices • 6 traditional Panamanian hot sauces • Geisha coffee • Orchid honey • Seasonal fruit • 2 traditional Panamanian desserts • A traditional market-style meal featuring rice, codfish, fish in garlic sauce, sancocho, salad, and fried plantains • Fish in coconut sauce with patacones • Panamanian BBQ chicken • Tableño sausage • The neighborhood's favorite chili dog • Fish with escovitch sauce and mixed seafood • Three 16 oz refills of local beverages throughout the experience If the portions were significantly larger, it would simply be impossible to offer such a wide variety of foods within a single experience. Our goal is to showcase Panama's incredible culinary diversity, introduce travelers to local businesses, and encourage them to return to the places they enjoyed most. While appetites naturally vary from person to person, our experience has shown that many guests are unable to finish the final plate because they are already quite full by that point in the tour. In fact, several participants in your group mentioned feeling completely satisfied before reaching the last stop. We truly appreciate your feedback and are happy to hear that you enjoyed learning about Panama's history, communities, and local culture. Thank you for supporting the small businesses, families, and entrepreneurs that make this experience possible :)
