Quizás una de las experiencias más auténticas que cualquier amante de la comida podría tener en Tesalónica es visitar los históricos mercados abiertos de la ciudad. ¡El ambiente, la gente y las delicias locales te recompensarán!
Modiano es uno de los mercados más tradicionales de Tesalónica. Está ubicado en el corazón de la ciudad y ha sido parte de la vida de los tesalonicenses durante unos 80 años. Su construcción comenzó en 1922 y terminó en 1930 por el arquitecto Eli Modiano. Proveniente de una renombrada familia judía (sefardí) de Tesalónica, Eli era hijo del banquero Jacob (Yako) Modiano. Estudió arquitectura en París, Francia y regresó a Tesalónica, donde creó algunos de los edificios más importantes de la ciudad, incluido el Mercado Modiano.
Llena de vida, durante todo el día, la Plaza Athonos en el centro de la ciudad es un lugar amado tanto por los tesalonicenses como por los turistas. Aquí, la alimentación y la nutrición juegan el papel principal. Louloudadika es una pequeña área del centro histórico de la ciudad que incluye las calles de Komninon, Frangon y Vas. Herakliou, que toma su nombre de los antiguos floristas al aire libre que estaban allí. Desafortunadamente, solo 4 continúan funcionando hoy. En los años 50 había 11 tiendas que vendían todo tipo de flores y su fama llegó a las ciudades provinciales.

Had an amazing tour led by guide Nikos. Immediately felt comfortable touring the city and learned so much about the food, history and culture! Come hungry. Like very hungry. I was so full by the end 🤣 nikos went above and beyond showing me the metro system and the history behind it!

We had a fantastic walking food tour of Thessaloniki ! Nikos was a very interesting, informative & funny host. We learned a lot about the history of the city & its food. The tour was at a gentle pace & the many food samples were delicious & very filing ! The highlight was the visit to the markets. We would highly recommend this tour !

The tour was very good with lots of information and conversation. The two hours was just about right and the distance not to long on what was a hot day. We’ll be going back to many of the places we visited.

Nico was an amazing guide. This tour included plenty of local foods as well as a great history of the area and tour of the city. It felt like spending the afternoon with a friend. Would highly recommend this tour.

We had a really great, varied and delicious food tour. We also learned about backgrounds of Thessaloniki and the tour guide was very nice and pleasant.
Our guide Niksos really did his homework checking to make sure he took us to all fresh, handmade bakeries and restaurants and every dish we sampled was top notch! Fresh filo dough rolled by hand for the spanikopita, the bougata was so yummy and every other sweet treat was amazing. Greek coffee was very interesting - not sure if I’ll will give up my morning Nespresso for it but enjoyed it just the same. Very enjoyable tour - highly recommend.
